Sounds as if the NL will be adopting the DH rule in the next couple of years.  I hate it, hate it, hate it.

I do like most of the other rule recommendations, however.

I like the idea of a 3 batter minimum.  Of course, we would see a spike in minor arm strains with lefty relievers, as managers use the 'injury' loophole to get around it.

LOL

The metrics they use now have changed the game.  Too much "situational analyzing".

I'm still a Mets fan down deep, but my now-hometown Reds have won a place in my heart.
This is the view from my office:

And this the view my sons and I had this past summer:

The Cincinnati area Cub Scouts and the Reds Co-host a Campout on the outfield of Great American Ballpark. One of the coolest experiences of my life. I purposely put our bags down dead in the middle of center field, just to say I slept in the same spot patrolled by Griffey/Edmonds/Hamilton.

I can always think back to the Big Red Machine days.  Just wish the Reds would be good once for my 14 year old.  They have not won a playoff series in his lifetime.

Right now, I just want them to not lose 90+ games again.

Edit:  I almost forgot the really big MLB news....Homer Bailey signs a minor league deal with the Royals.

Interesting move.  I am not familiar with the Pads farm system, do they have a stud 3bman at a lower level?

My initial reaction was what a waste. Did a little research. Padres farm system considered one of best. Challenging for playoffs in 1-2 years is expectation.

I know they were hot after Suarez from Cincy for the hot corner.  IIRC 5 prospects they offered.  And I am not a left coast guy, so really don't follow those teams out there.

They made a few really good trades to stock their farm system.  Overall ranks are in parenthesis from here. They got

  • Fernando Tatis Jr. (#2) from the White Sox for James Shields (what a terrible trade that was for the White Sox!)
  • Fransisco Mejia (#26) from the Indians for Brad Hand
  • Chris Paddack (#34) from Miami for Fernando Rodney
  • Logan Allen (#74) from Boston for Craig Kimbrel

They also did well in the draft, and they signed a few prospects from Cuba.  They have 10 guys in that top 100 list, and the Braves are next with 8, then a few with 6.  I would maybe rate the Braves future slightly higher because they have 8 on the list, and that isn't counting Acuna and Albies who were terrific for them last year as rookies.  I could see the Braves becoming the team to beat in the NL very soon.

I think the Padres did things the right way.  If you're a small market team, if you just have one or two good guys, ship them out.  They aren't going to do anything except kill your draft picks.  There isn't the fan pressure to compete each year like there is in some of the bigger markets.  It might take them a year or two to compete in the West, but they could be pretty good soon.

Weather in San Diego is just SLIGHTLY better than Chicago.

Yep...just a tad. Haha. Was speaking with a few buddies and think the opportunity to be the man in a 1 pro team sports town like San Diego was more appealing than being the man for White Sox who are the 4th option (barely ahead of Bulls because the Bulls are historically bad) in a 5 team pro sports town.

I was born and raised there and will always love Chicago. But I always laugh when people who call Chicago home still are amazed that people don't want to live there. Quick reaction yesterday from Kaplan to others were surprised that someone chose San Diego over Chicago.

My take on San Diego is that it is a bad sports town where as Chicago is a rabid sports town.

But you couldn't pay me to live in Chicago...nice place to visit.
