Funderburke at Ohio St.

Ib4IU had a good list.

Emmitt Holt stated out pretty good at Providence, had some health issues I believe. If I am remembering correctly, the kid was fighting for his life for a time. He came back to play but was never the same.

Funderburke...I can only imagine had he stayed how good we would have been with him.

Mike White...Lance Stemler...Inbound transfers I thought played solid in their respective years and roles .White played pretty big at an alleged generous height listing .lol Transfers .Illinois(the state, not Illini) kids I think?

Forgive if theyve been mentioned.Didnt read the rest of the thread ..But theyd fall among trransfers that worked out for the most part.

Well, my memory is just as shot.  All I remember about Brooks was that he wasn't much of a leaper.  But, I don't remember any turmoil around his leaving.  Mike Giomi? Now that's a different case....

Yeah...I don't remember any real drama.  Delray wasn't quick and as you said...not a leaper.  In the end I think Knight did his best in helping him transfer to a better situation.

Michael Herman.  Saw him get 10 assists one game as a freshman.  Hard to find anything on him now.  He was special, but not for Knight's system.

"Michael Herman, Westinghouse High School

The Chicago native was known to consistently drop 40s and 50s on college and NBA guys who would play in the Pro-Am at LeClair Courts and Malcolm X College while he was still in high school at Westinghouse. After graduation, Herman played one year for Bobby Knight at Indiana, but things didn’t quite work out beyond that. Still, in mid- to late-'90s, Herman wore the crown as Chicago’s best baller."

In 2017, I was at an airport gate and the GA ST team was there. Spoke with Hollowell and a couple of his teammates. He seemed like a polite and humble kid.

On the plane, I sat next to one of the assistants. He said Jeremy was a good kid who had a bad experience playing for CTC. He said that CTC wasn’t particularly well liked by much of the coaching profession. Seen as a bit of a phony. I was surprised he was that candid with a total stranger.

Maybe that candidness would lean towards that thought not being a secret or something no one was scared to own up to saying because of the confidence in said statement? 🤔

Chris Lawson - Big man transferred to Vandy and averaged 10 points a game for two years.

Neil Reed.

3 out of Knights last four burger boys transferred (Reed, Collier, Recker....Fife stayed).

I don't mean to disrespect the late Neil  Reed, but when it come to fitting in to RMK system, he was a soft.

Fife was tough as nails.

I do not agree with that on Neil Reed.  Having nothing to do with the release of a tape that ultimately led to the eventual dismissal of CRMK, he did receive death threats over the incident from idiot IU fans despite transferring out before the release of the condemning video.

Maybe I am not remembering correctly.  Iirc, he was a 40.4% IU career from 3 and 80.4% from the charity stripe.  We would love that today.  There were some great Neil Reed stories shared at the time of his passing.  I also remember his wife posting on HSN back in 2012.  That fact, and her potentially seeing this doesn't change my opinion.  Again, I could just be suffering a poor memory.  I thought Neil Reed was fine in Coach Knight's system.  It just so happens his style/personality isn't for everyone.  It doesn't make them, well, what you said.  Especially when they sit out a year to play as a senior as the main offensive option averaging over 18ppg.

Disagree about Neil Reed. I recall  a game where he was playing with a shoulder brace due to a separated shoulder. He took 2 or 3 charges and had to be helped up by teammates due to the pain. The coaches had to tell him not to do that anymore.

We could have used that toughness/leadership this year.

Yes. Not to pile on, but Reed had more determination than anyone on this year's team.  IMO, that's the kind of kid we could use going forward.

Also, Fife is one of the big reasons we ended up with Mike Davis (I'll never let that go unsaid).

Yeah, not to pile on but to me this is a clear case of revisionist history. Even if you leave all of the he said, he said stuff out of the equation, the purported things Knight was up to behind the scenes, Neil showed up on the floor. As was mentioned, he played hard, well, and through injury. The kid played Hoosier basketball.

If you’re basing your perspective on the fact that he transferred away because he didn’t like Knight’s disciplinary style of coaching, please keep in mind, Knight, by MANY accounts had turned a corner at that point in his career. His teams’ lack of success on the court were indicators of that, if nothing else. He was doing less with more and good luck finding another reason. There is a distinct line between playing for a disciplinarian and not wanting to spend your time being subjected to constant verbal, psychological, and perhaps, even physical abuse.

If you can point to things in his play or during any interviews he gave during his time as an IU player that support your supposition that he was “soft”, then, game on, let’s discuss.

Excellent call.  Just like Hodgson, Herman is another former Hoosier that gets forgotten about.  Michael was the silkiest, smooth player I ever saw put on an IU uniform.

I agree, Neil was tough AF and fearless on the court.

Reed being “soft” was typical spin control from the Knight camp when players transferred. The dude had a separated shoulder and was still diving on the floor like a wild man. He played many games where could have easily sat.

Agree that Fife was tough as nails. We need someone like him (and/or Reed) on our current team of “nice guys”.

Herman was escorted out of Damon's bar and grill during season. Manager made a call and Feling and another came picked him up and the outcome was not good for Michael.

Wonder what happened to Herman. I googled him and his name frequently came up as one of the all-time Chicago playground greats. Does not seem as though he went to another college. Hope, for his sake, that he did not go down the rabbit hole like many other playground legends (drugs curtailed a number of them).
