Yes...That's the guy she rescued...You can see he's a little gimpy on his left front...But he's very smart, and very happy...You can see how fast he picked up kicking that ball around...And the vet says he's in pretty good health for the conditions he came out of...

I'm proud of my daughter because it meant more than money to her to get him out of there...Very selfless thing she did...

Ok great, major props to your daughter. We need more people like her in the world. Glad he’s safe and able to goof around with that big ball.

I haven’t been posting much on here or anywhere lately after our dachshund Chloe passed. It was the toughest loss I’ve had in a pretty long life with plenty of bumps and hardships. My wife and I were both just devastated as she’s been our baby for 14 years - got her when she was 8 weeks old.

We waited a month to start looking for another dog and we finally found another long-haired dachshund from a rescue organization in Brewster, NY. She was a breeder surrender from Texas, who wasn’t producing enough puppies. She’s five years old and just a sweetheart. Super cuddly and loving and really eager to please. She seems to be great with other dogs and kids, and that’s a plus as our building has plenty of both.

Here’s one of the first pics of her at a brewery with my wife.

Great pic!  And kudos on picking this animal who wasn't "producing" for the breeder.   She deserves a good life.

Yeah, i don’t have anything against most breeders, but was happy to “retire” this five year old girl to the cushy Brooklyn life!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Looks like you have yourself a winner there.

Know how you feel. My wife and I had our two dogs for 11 and just short of 14 years. It really is like losing a family member.

One of the best dogs we ever had was a female boxer that was a former show dog. The breeder gave her to my middle daughter...she was beautiful, smart, protective of our family, and definitely an alpha female...

Thank you, each day she reveals herself to be that much more of a winner. We feel like we hit the jackpot!

It is losing a member of your family. Really tough.

And her name is?

Sorry! It’s Edith, we call her Edie for short. We like old-fashioned names for our pets.

I’m really glad the breeder did the right thing in both cases. There will always be a loving family wanting a dog like that!

One of our Bostons grew into the role of an alpha female. Might have only been 20 lbs or so, but didn't have "little dog syndrome". She knew how big she was, but didn't care. She was in charge.

Fortunately, she never had to put it to use, but I have zero doubts that if someone ever broke in, they'd wind up with more than one chunk of flesh missing. And to get her to stop, you'd literally have to kill her. Tenacious little hairball...lol.

I've met a few Boston's like that...

The boxer we had, Bre' would strike the "show pose" once in a while, I guess out of habit...she was a striking brindle...

She had 3 levels for human/other animals...love (she absolutely loved our family...my youngest was a baby, and she lorded over her like it was her pup), toleration, or intense hatred (which unfortunately included all cats)...

There was a guy who lived across from us in base housing that she hated...she would lunge to the end of her leash everytime she saw him...he got drummed out of the USAF for looking at kiddie porn on his work computer...

Funny how dogs know...

Indeed they do. When my kids were little, if they fell asleep on the couch or the floor, Addison would be right next to them. Wouldn’t be asleep, but sitting in what we called her “Sphinx” pose: belly on the floor, paws flat, head straight up. And when one of us came back in the room, she’d look at us as if we said “You are relieved and may leave your post” and trot off.

Not a cat guy, but that’s a good looking feline

I wasnt a cat guy growing up, but having everything that exists on a farm you have them all.

The black cat in the pic my wife picked up on the side of the road on her way home 10yrs ago.

The other was part of a litter that was born under our deck last year.

I named her Tyson, after Mike Tyson, because she is my proxy for having a Tiger.

Yeah, I want a pet Tiger.

I have a rule: I will never own a pet that may possibly perceive me as a snack someday

Two years ago, I started this thread with a picture of our beloved golden retriever, Dexter. This morning, he took his final breath and we had to say good-bye. We couldn't have asked for a more loving, fun, loyal or protective dog in the nearly 12 years we were blessed to call him ours. We are empty nesters, and Dexter was our boy. We are heartbroken as although the condition that caused his passing had to have been developing over time, it only showed itself yesterday morning. My wife and I feel like we been hit by a mack truck. We are thankful that he went quickly and his suffering was minimal. We are thankful that we were able to be there when he passed. We are extremely grateful for the compassion and care provided by our veterinarian, his wife and his staff.

What I have learned throughout this thread is that there are some wonderful pet and animal lovers here at HSN. Please give your furry, or whatever, friend a hug today and let them know your love.

So sorry for your loss. What a beautiful boy and I am sure he was spoiled. They do become part of the family and we mourn them that way. You can rest a sure that he knew he had a great life and made you and your wife lives special as well.
