Ed Schilling Moving On...

This is kind of a "meh" thing in my opinion. I think people get too worked up over these things. Timing is certainly odd, but the program will go on and changes like this happen, and are an opportunity for a new voice and to improve in some areas.

Agree 100%...meh.  Hell, we put up 25 wins next season and this will be an after thought.

I have to think the next hire will be a recruiter. I know Ostrom is the recruiting specialist - but I think a second big time recruiter would be a huge help.

I'm hoping the next hire is a player development guy. Schilling was supposed to be that guy as well but we didn't see much development honestly.

I have to think the KBJ saga played into this (pure speculation based on zero facts).  I strongly feel Archie let off the gas on '19 recruiting, feeling KBJ was coming.  Was Ed giving CAM assurances it was only a matter of time until he signed and then it fell apart leaving us scrambling?  Did the Brooks' deceive ES and then pulled the chair out from under him?

Who knows?  I sure don't.

I would love to see Dane Fife, but that is not happening.  Dane's next step will be a head coaching job.  After being named Associate Head coach last year, I can't see him making a lateral move.

Agreed. He's 18th on this list (Ostrom is 13th). Wouldn't think he would come to a place with a young HC in place preventing him from being HC there for a long time/if ever. Too bad Hulls is still playing and not coaching. I would think he would be an ideal assistant college coach (someday).

It wouldn't even be lateral, it would be a demotion. I believe Ostom is the #1 assistant and I doubt Archie would slide him down the line to make room for Dane.

The Dane train sailed along time ago.  He made his bed.

The fact he couldn’t deliver on the recruiting trail, our poor guard development and the fact UCLA wasn’t bummed to see Ed leave. I hope this works out for us.

We differ in opinions alot of times, but I'm definitely with you on this one.

Archie should call into Dakich's show, offer him the position while on the air, and then immediately pull it back and say "Just talking out of both sides of my mouth like you do Dan".  :coffee:

Kevin Wilson might have done this.

Actually just the opposite. If CAM doesn't get the job done, fans and alumni have the replacement right there on the bench. That's why Archie would NEVER bring Fife in the fold. You don't hire your own replacement if you plan on coaching somewhere for awhile.

That seems like a pretty good strategy. Haha.

Where is that shot doctor/offensive guru/relentless and charming recruiter? Let’s go get him. (Maybe a little easier said than done)

Can we bring back the Shot Doctor? I think adding someone to the staff that can really coach shooting form would be a big bonus. I think this could really help our team - one example I can give you is Collin Hartman's senior year. He was leaning and falling back on his jump shot throughout the year - it never got fixed and it was blatantly obvious. This resulted in a huge decrease in his 3 point shooting accuracy. This would never have happened when we had the Shot Doctor - he was always there to help people who were struggling.

My opinion is you get the best coach (right fit) for your team. Winning will bring recruits. You can have every high school coach or relative or alumni you want, kids will pay attention to your program when you win. Obviously there are outliers for new programs ie Memphis, but that shine will wear off if they lose.

Do we bring in an ex NBA guy...doesn't have to be one of our own...but certainly would allow us to speak authoritively on what it takes to get your game there and what to expect in the process....seem kids are most interested in this. Heck it could even be an ex-Pacer or someone with ties to the state...not necessarily IU. Any thoughts?

This. I'm all for having an "IU guy" on the bench, but I want Archie to hire the best fit for 'his' program. If it's a former IU player then that is bonus. All that really matters at the end of the day is winning. If you win, fans and recruits, etc. won't care if there's an IU guy on the bench.

Not Chuck Person even though he was a former Pacer
