If you look historically at yards per completion, the guys from the 40s and 50s dominate the top spots.

The highest current QB is Patrick Mahomes at 55...

But I also think Yards Gained After the Catch plays in here too...a lot of big plays today are short passes a guy breaks...

And former Bears QB Virgil Carter had something to do with the genesis of the West Coast offense...Walsh was the OC for the Bengals under Paul Brown, when the #1 QB, Greg Cook (who I think would have been a star if not for injuring his throwing shoulder) went down...Carter's arm was so weak, Walsh implemented the little dink and dunk offense to fit his skills (or lack thereof)...
