He's a mediocre coach at best.  He's got talent at UCLA despite the suspensions, but his coaching acumen would never measure up at IU.

As others have said, Crean beat UK twice.  It's not such a big deal to beat a talented but inexperienced team.

Besides. Alford left a bad taste in the mouth of many Bloomington residents, as a player, that lasts till this day. When you step on people's toes, people don't forget about that.   IMHO, he would have been a divisive coach, considering that, and what went on at Iowa.  Something we don't need.... ever since Knight left.  This is a fan base.... that after 20 years.... needs to come together.  Alford would not have been the answer, regardless of how he does at UCLA.  I'll continue to pull for Steve.... so long as he is not coaching at IU.
