Just wanted everyone to know that I have tested positive for the virus.  Have not really been really sick or had that many symptoms.  I had a low grade fever and some congestion but felt pretty good.  Main reason I wanted to go to the doctor and get tested was my elderly parents lives with me. Just wanted people to know that you can have this without being sick.  Even the doctor was not even going to test me since my symptoms was not that bad.

Hope you are ok and prayers for you and especially your parents.

Dont want this to come across as gossipy but former Greensburg Pirates star basketball player and Ball State alum Sean Sellers father passed from Coronavirus.  Man did a lot of great things in community and his youngest son is same age as.my oldest boy and competed against each other their whole life

Hopefully you can read this article. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/04/18/coronavirus-indiana-lawrence-central-basketball-sectional-10/5145870002/

No data to back this up but our love of hoops and no stay at home orders early in March appeared to have consequences. Pretty good article if you can read. IndyStar has some that are free some that aren't.

My wife was just telling me about this. Shows why it's so important to try to stop the spread.

Partially true but not entirely.  He was also was in the hospital for heart issues and kidneys were shutting down before the virus.  They thought they were going to lose him before the virus ever got to him.  Sean came home weeks ago from playing professionally over seas. John was a great guy and I loved golfing with him and being his student.  They live in our neighborhood and was always nice to see him when he would go for walks. He will be missed.

You just never know. I'm in a poker league here in Indy. We lost one of our dear members very early on (March 14th). Looking back at things I don't know how many lives she potentially saved because most people came in contact with her daily, touching cards,etc.....but those same people went into lock down after she passed away.

Thanks for clarification.  That's why I was hoping it not come across as gossip

Hey Gang, irregardless of what your political viewpoint(s) are, I just found this youtube video today and man does it raise a lot of questions. Questions particularly about Dr. Fauci.

Please watch with an open mind

I know it's a weird time, but we can do better than stuff like this. Never heard of this guy/network, but just a few clicks told me all I need to know. He's Alex Jones-level of ignorance and lies. I also looked at his Twitter feed and his pinned tweet is about Michelle Obama being transgender.

I'm not a big fan of crackpot conspiracy or rumor mongering on either side...

But I think one thing can be ascertained in what we've discovered in the last few years, and especially the last few months...

The Chinese Communist Party are not our friends...

Not in trade...

Not in intellectual property...

And not in the search for answers to the Corona virus issue...

It's clear they want to supplant the US as the world's super power...

And they've been doing it right before our eyes with at the very least inattention, and at the most alarming the complicity of multiple administration's...

One thing in common about all conspiracy theories is that they raise "interesting questions" that can send you down rabbit holes, whether it's conspiracies that the Earth is flat or the Holocaust didn't exist. These questions are always raised while dancing around the central subject.  Like for example. why did Fauci say Trump was going to face a pandemic (gasp)???? How about because every administration faces the threat of pandemic. Or why was Fauci researching the coronavirus two years ago (gasp)? Because that's what epidemiologists do. They also leave out that there are MULTIPLE types of coronavirus including MERS and SARS, so why wouldn't he be researching it?

Then they Interview a crackpot doctor and the seed is planted....

The doctor this time? Rashid Buttar who pushes alternative medicine; while he touts his credentials as a medical doctor, he was charged by the North Carolina Medical Board in 2008 for unprofessional conduct after charging “exorbitant fees” to cancer patients, three of whom died, for “ineffectual therapies.” Recently, he’s been pushing fringe theories about the coronavirus’s link to 5G, and that it was intentionally engineered to spur crackdowns on civil liberties.

IMO, these types of videos don't need to be posted in this thread.

100% agree there, my friend. China and Russia both want to see the West crumble. Neither are our friends. They will do everything in their power to bring us to our knees.

I've been reading opinions that China will benefit in the short term from this while the rest of the world is nursing their people and economies back to help, which makes plausible sense to me.

However, I am wondering it this is the straw that breaks the camel's back and it will hurt them in the long term. Horrible viruses keep on coming from this part of the world. China has been lucky that previous ones did not have an impact to this degree. It's only a matter of time that the rest of the civilized world is going to hold this against China for covering up the severity of the spread and wrecking the global economy. I think they were saying that the transmission wasn't human to human all the way up until January 19th (even though experts didn't believe them), and then a couple of days shut later they shut down Wuhan while their foot was still in their mouth.

Some rumblings that Indiana is considering opening things back up in early May. I have friends who own bars and restaurants. Have friends in the service industry....but I really hope they look at things and if they do decide to open bars/restaurants back up they do so after Cinco de Mayo. If they target the May 4th date that could be a disaster in the making. Or maybe it won't matter when they open things back up because so many will go out anyway.

It's tricky. Especially for the workers who may not have a choice. My wife and I were discussing yesterday how restaurants and bars will navigate this reopening process. They tend to pack the tables pretty close together here b/c of high rents. I can't imagine being crammed into these tiny tables that close to another table anymore. I feel like they are going to have to create more space in their floor plan, but then they have less customers to cover rent.

And early May seems really early. Hope we don't see a rush to reopening that leads to a second wave of infections/deaths.

Yep. Few of my friends have discussed when they do open again using a hard cap number in terms of patrons. One place is supposed to be 200....they've talked about only allowing 75 in... Tables distancing,etc....but that's here in Indy where rents are considerably less. I have one friend who was just opening up his place this month....their landlord is giving them 6 months free if they extend the lease longer on back end.

Guess it comes back to potentially personal choice. If they open bars/restaurants in early May here in Indy.....I'm still going to wait at least 10-14 days from opening because as you mentioned I'm not wanting to risk that second wave. If my downside to this whole thing is being overly cautious. I'm good with that.

I really don't try to be a wet blanket in my responses, just putting thoughts out there.  haha

Looking at these state and federal checklists, there's one thing that's going to keep delaying reopening and that is tests. I have 2 friends who are pretty certain they have it - their doctors are certain they have and they STILL can't get tested. I just can't imagine we'll be reopening things up until states feel they have a grasp on who is infected and who has antibodies. This whole shut down, whether you agree with or not, really has been a stalling tactic. The reality is that the virus is new and we don't know much about it, so the government is stalling until they have enough information to ensure it's safe to go back out in public. Until we a. can ensure hospitals won't be overcrowded b. know the infection rate and c. know the death rate, they won't reopen things - and this is all tied back to testing.

Governors have been asking for these special testing swabs for the last few weeks so more of these tests can be performed. Yesterday the Defense Production Act was issued yesterday which is a step in the right direction IMO. As far as i'm concerned, let's do everything we can to compel companies to manufacture testing kits ASAP. The faster it happens, the faster things open up and the sooner we can get back to work.

From 2015 :

Lab-Made Coronavirus Triggers Debate | The Scientist Magazine®

Interesting that prior to the breakout, the University of North Carolina had a full page on what work this guy was doing with Coronavirus research.  Now... that page is no where to be found.  I was able to find this though :

And this is what concerns me about the whole "globalism" thing...

There's always going to be a world leader, and the farther we progress into globalism and blurred nationalism, the ideas of democracy and socialism/communism will clash...the country with the upper hand globally, will call the shots...and if it's China or Russia (who, while dangerous, aren't nearly as aggressive as the Chinese) democracy will eventually be a casualty...

We basically saw a microcosm of this post WW2 in Germany...

I'm not saying we're as pure as the new driven snow in global activity, but believe me, we're a helluva lot more benevolent than the Chinese or Russians would ever be...

We should have been using this time to massively increase testing and at least explore contact tracing. We have not really done either one.

The pessimist in me feels like the government has largely just wasted time during a very painful period for many people. People are suffering physically, mentally, and financially. We could have at least used this time to vastly increase testing production/availability and ramp up testing on a national scale. Instead, it's a hodgepodge of states stumbling through it - some doing okay and others not so much.

Can I add one more thing we should be doing. Bringing back pharmaceutical manufacturing back the the U.S.  Currently we purchase over 90% of our pharmaceuticals from China !
