Kumbaya moment: there are some on this thread that I disagree with often...sometimes may even get frustrated with at times (haha). In particular this thread's frequent posters: @mrflynn03, @Reacher, @IUFLA, @5fouls (sorry if I left anybody else out...and not trying to group you all together as representing one particular belief, you are all individuals with individual perspectives). Just wanted to let you all know I appreciate you all as posters, people, and enjoy chatting with you on many topics despite our different beliefs on this topic. I'm glad mods are keeping this thread open because I do think it's a healthy practice to cordially disagree with each other. Especially in these times.

I saw a great quote last week that i'm trying to be cognisant of in 'real life' conversations and internet conversations that I struggle with but am doing my best to adhere to: "It's not about being right, It's about getting it right". I just think this needs to be remembered when approaching controversial topics. It needs to be less about proving each other wrong and more about understanding and respecting each other's perspective. Like I said, i'm definitely not a poster boy for this, just trying to work on it.

Thank you mods, sorry for any part I played in that fiasco.

Just heard Bob Lovell say that 95% of IHSAA events went on last week as scheduled.  Unfortunately South Decatur  high school were not involved in any games. Ending our 1st week of a 2week shut down

Are you totally shut down, or just doing e-learning?  We played sports through our e-learning episode.  Volleyball team had to shut down for two weeks, but all other sports played on.

Interesting study.  Small study group, but positive versus negative testing comparison in July found people that ate in a restaurant were twice as likely to get Covid as those that did not.

Even more interesting are the things that showed NO statistical difference.  Most of these are things we've been told differently.

  • Wearing masks
  • Attending religious ceremonies
  • Working in an office
  • Using public transportation
  • Going to a gym

I think with mask wearing it will be tough to conclude their effectiveness in the real world because there isn't 100% compliance and people put some pretty dumb stuff on their faces.

If they could be 100% effective and everyone wore them and life was normal then maybe my local breakfast joint wouldn't have went out of business.

Now I have no place locally to get perfectly cooked hash browns and gravy and ham steak and that makes me mad/sad. You suck virus.

New normal is waiting for normal, forever

“If you’re talking about getting back to a degree of normality, which resembles where we were prior to COVID, it’s gonna be well into 2021,” Fauci said. “Maybe even towards the end of 2021.”

We may have a time when restaurants and bars reopen and we don't have to wear masks in public, but I'm not sure we'll ever return to life the way it was before.

Me:  Hey honey, the kids aren't home tonight.

Wife:  Only if you wear the mask I bought.

Me:  The Bradley Cooper mask?  You're kidding.

Wife:  That's the one.  You know, we can't be too careful with Covid.

Me:  So, just how long am I going to have to look like Bradley Cooper on date night?

Wife:  Until the Kris Bryant mask I ordered comes in.

The effectiveness of masks depends on the quality of the masks(well documented) and the care the wearer takes using it and not contaminating.  I was slaughtered on the book for mentioning all the people I would see in public touching their mask with a dirty hand.

Can't remember if it was Fauci or who said early on that wearing a mask may make things worse because people don't know how to properly care and handle their mask and are then adjusting it over and over with a contaminated hand.  Then masks became politicized.

You just know stuff like this was happening but still baffling to hear it.  Man, that officer has more poise than I do

Our neighbor's daughter is a sophomore at Miami.  She contracted covid and came home!!  Her father tested positive a few days afterwards.  Miami is/was a hotspot.  Honestly, I'm glad we don't have kids.

I remember seeing something awhile back saying the gym wasn't a risk. Figured it was gym propaganda.

Covid reshaping the restaurant industry. Mom and pop shops are out. 83% of restaurants surveyed in NYC could not pay July rent- https://thenycalliance.org/information/july-2020-rent-report  Big chains to be the winners as they invest and add multiple drive thru lanes. Restaurants may soon look like banks with 2 or 3 drive up lanes.

Catching up on COVID news...

"Stauffer and his colleagues found that the number of people in Denver who died of cardiac arrests at home in the two weeks following the statewide stay-at-home order was greater than the total number of people who died of COVID-19 in the city during that time."

What I want to know is why women are allowed to have 'interest' in celebrities and public figures, but men are not.

Great question.

I told this story and will tell again.  3 years ago we were in Chicago for a Cubs game and my wife had a shirt that she made that said if lost return to Kris Bryant. At a bar she told me that if she met Kris she was allowed to sleep with him and it was her free pass. She then said I could have  free pass and wanted to know the name of my person. Without missing a beat I turned to the young very attractive very intoxicated lady next to us and asked her name and then told my wife that was the name of my free pass. She did not see the humor in it at all.
