Tom Crean’s 2016 Hoosiers featured 5 future pros, won the Big Ten title, and made the S16. They face off against one of the best Hoosiers of All-Time, Walt Bellamy and the 1961 Hoosiers. Can FR Thomas Bryant slow him down?

In a first-round powerhouse matchup of top 10 SRS teams, the near perfect conference record 1993 Hoosiers led by All-Time Big Ten leading scorer Calbert Cheaney face off with FR Steve Alford and the 1984 Hoosiers. Dan Dakich, fresh off of “shutting down” Michael Jordan, will look to replicate the feat vs. Cheaney.

In the 2016 vs 1961 matchup, Tom Crean started the game with the surprising strategy of having Tim Priller guard Walt Bellamy.  That lasted 27 seconds before Priller fouled out.  In the end though, the 2016 team had too much firepower.  Led by Yogi Ferrell, the 2016 team prevailed with an 8 point victory.

In the '93 vs. '84 game, Damon Bailey playfully ruffled Steve Alford's hair before the opening tip.  Flustered, Alford was unable to find his groove, and finished with only 4 points, which included an 0-9 performance from 3 point range.

As a result, '93 cruised to a victory.

Visibly upset after the game that his star guard was knocked off his game, Coach Bob Knight stated that he would never recruit a kid like Bailey, and that the opposing coach was nothing more than a bully.

I'm having a hard time believing people have voted '84 over '93.  That '93 team may be the best IU team of all time.

I'll attribute one of the '84 votes to Dan Dakich, who has some extra time to troll these days.  Who else out there voted for '84?  'xplain yourself.

Maybe IU Scott, since all things 80s are greater than anything else? JK with you Scott.

The 93 team is my favorite.  Age bias may play a part since I was too young to see the earlier great teams.

Honestly, I was alive and a fan in '76, '81 and '87.  The '93 team may be my favorite as well.  I feel strongly that they were every bit as good, if not better, than those 3 championship teams.  Definitely could beat  '87.  And, while '76 obviously is still in the history books, I could see '93 beating them 5 out of 10 times.  Not sure any IU team would have beat that '81 squad during their tournament run though.  That 5 game stretch, the Hoosiers were truly unbeatable.

Cheaney, Henderson, and Bailey all rank as among my favorite players.

I actually thought the 92 team was better than the 93 team at least talent wise.  Especially the run to the final four Eric Anderson was a critical part of that teams as was Meeks.  Without those two our depth in 93 was not as good because I would take a senior Anderson over a freshman in Evans.

But, you have to factor in an added year of experience for Cheaney, Graham, Bailey, Henderson, etc.  I think that makes up for losing Anderson.

I watched a couple of games form 93 the last few days and one of them they beat Minnesota at home but they played bad.  You are probably right that the 93 was better since they went 17-1 in the big ten.

Agreed. That's the biggest "what if" in my IU fandom (born in 77, so wasn't around for the 75 one).

Not sure there is even a what if with the 75. That’s a no doubt...with 93...I think we had already proven we were better than Michigan and at by the end of the season I think we were better than Kansas. Hard to say if we beat North Carolina in the final four but I like our chances. Honestly that was a loaded final four. All really good teams advanced there. Duke being the only upset earlier in the tournament....but 75 no doubt. I just don’t know if 76 goes undefeated if it was back to back years though...hard to stay motivated...well maybe not with Knight at the helm.

1993 #6 Indiana at #2 Michigan College Basketball

And then there was this one as well :
