Ayden has good taste in music. Has he heard the live S&M album?

He has heard parts for sure and his guitar instructor gave him a pick from Hammett that he got at the S & M show. 3 years ago he found an old Xbox 360 guitar game he had that was his brother's and played it and fell in love.  He now has all tje guitar hero games. He now knows more rock music than I do.

He is getting a kill switch added to his guitar so he can do some Rage songs. He can't play any full song but can play parts of about 100 its kinda funny. He truly is a student of the bands and musicians.

It was a sad songs week in my music league. Somebody chose Colin Hay’s - I just Don’t Think I’ll Get Over You. After all this time thinking the song was about a girl, I just learned that he wrote it about his struggle with alcoholism.

Takes on a new meaning.

…..Still a classic

I drink good coffee every morning
It comes from a place that's far away
And when I'm done I feel like talking
Without you here there is less to say

Don't want you thinking I'm unhappy
What is closer to the truth
Is that if I lived till I was a hundred and two
I just don't think I'll ever get over you

I'm no longer moved to drink strong whiskey
I shook the hand of time and I knew
that if I lived till I could no longer climb my stairs
I just don't think I'll ever get over you

Your face it dances and it haunts me
your laughter is still ringing in my ears
I still find pieces of your presence here
even after all these years

I don't want you thinking that i don't get asked to dinner
cause I'm here to say that I sometimes do
and even though I may seem to feel a touch of love
I just don't think I'll ever get over you

if I live till I was a hundred and two
I just don't think I'll ever get over you

You should check out the show Scrubs if you haven’t. They use a few Colin Hay songs.

After getting older and really listening to the lyrics a lot of songs, especially 90's alt rock/ pop even top 40 stuff, deals with subjects I didn't understand when younger.

I was introduced to Colin Hay via the Garden State soundtrack (Zach Braff is obviously a fan), which is probably my favorite soundtrack of all time. A must listen. The Shins pretty much owe their career to that movie.

The other day, "Overkill" showed up in my YouTube Music playlist.

I saw Hay when he was with "Men at Work" in St Louis back in 1984 or 85. My wife's sister was dating a guy that worked for an Ad agency and he was always getting good tickets to concerts and sporting events. We were 8th row for MAW... Pretty good concert.

I like Men at Work. I have a couple of their vinyl albums.

When I was teaching middle school geography, I played "Down Under" one day while the students were coming into class as an introduction to Australia ha.

  • 2 weeks later...

We stopped by Guitar Center yesterday because Ayden saw online that they had a used James Hettfield snake byte guitar and he wanted to play it.  We got home and he begged Mom that if she put 20 percent in lay away that we would work to pay the rest off. She agreed and when he called back they had just packed it up and was sending it to Florida, someone bought it online.  A little bit on my favorite Metallica song ONE

Not sure if you want to tell him this, but I'm sure they'll have some used ones on reverb.com.
