One thing about living in Southern Indiana since the 90's over the years to today most of the private property has been leased, and public land is getting crowded. People come down from Indy or up from Louisville metro area to hunt game and mushrooms, fish and whatever else. It's to the point where our family has 40 acres and some public land. All the access we used to have to private property is gone because $$$. I dont blame them because they have to pay their property taxes. Just shows how much things have changed. My grandpa bought a 40 acre farm in 1968 on savings and %50 army pension. Had it for 37 years. I wont be able to afford to keep it when its handed down. Sorry for complaining. Land is not cheap to buy nor is it cheap to maintain(property taxes), at least in Indiana. Conversely, if done right, land can be kept quite easily. Farming, leasing rights, and such. That being said, if any of ya need a place to mushroom hunt just ask me. I let anyone go.

But if you just want to try them 1/4 lb for a side dish is all you need. There was a small bag for $19+ at Meijer. Not sure how many oz but it didn't look like much. I'll check next time I'm there. Reacher
Spent Fri, Sat and Sun in the Shawnee National Forest and surrounding areas. Weather was great. Did a number of hikes and got some canoeing in. Beautiful area, hilly and wooded with everything from rock outcroppings to cypress swamps. Reacher
Cave in Rock was on my list but never made it there. Did a couple hikes at Garden of the Gods. Actually liked hiking at Rimrock the best.

Going to see the eclipse I saw so many Canadian and Michigan plates. Our options were land between the lakes in Kentucky or shawnee. Luckily I knew the land and the Evansville to Henderson bridge was impossible so turned right and ended up at Shawnee. Best part is me and my wife experienced the eclipse on some country backroad just the two of us. Noone else around and we saw the wavy shadowbands. And I poked a rattlesnake with a stick. Yeah, I'm dumb sometimes. Edited May 7, 2021 by mrflynn03

Proud2BAHoosier
OK.... Well last week, on a whim, I registered for some lottery tickets for the annual Synchronous Firefly show in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I've heard they are very difficult to get. Lo and behold, I received an e-mail letting me know I was chosen to receive the tickets!! It is for June 8th (Tuesday). From what I have gathered, there are only 2 places in the world where this phenomena occurs, the Smoky Mountains and the other is somewhere in Asia. My daughter and her husband had went camping in Elkmont campground a few years ago. She said she noticed many people carrying lawn chairs. So she asked some of them where they were going and they told her to see the firelies put on a show. My daughter said it was an awesome experience! My wife and I are looking forward to going. Here is a short YouTube video if you would like to see what it's all about....

It was a tough hike this time as she had numerous thunderstorms, high winds, hail, cold temps and went a couple of days with no way to communicate her status. She can now rest up and start planning her next adventure. She is one tough mama.
IUFLA
Had to go over to the Port Arthur area (actually Grove, Texas) to have a huge, non-cancerous mass removed from our Lab's chest by a specialist. Dropped her off at 9 and picking her up at 5. Having that much time, me and my wife went down to Sea Rim state park on the Gulf. Not much there. Paid 3 bucks a head, and I feel like I got taken...anyway, here's a couple of pics... Water looks pretty terrible...like overused dish water...I did take a pic of this for @rico in case he ever wants to come here fishing 😁

The Sheepshead(salt water variety) is a damn tasty fish, not like their freshwater brethren(Sheepshead=fresh water drum=trash fish in the state of Indiana). My first trip to Key West I went on Tarpon fishing trip. Before the trip was over the guide put us on a cooler full of sheepshead. Took them to a local restaurant and they cooked them up. Also had a Spanish mackerel and hogfish. Probably the best seafood meal I've had.
