The comment about DD saying none of our players could start for a (mediocre) purdue team, just highlights how poor recruiting has been under CAM.  Romeo is far and away his highest recruit, and he was always a one-and-done thus very little dividends.  TJD is a very good player and Franklin is probably the best lesser ranked guy.  Beyond that, FAIL.  As I mentioned in a previous post, his out of state recruiting is essentially non-existent.  Hunter and Thompson (Hunter Thompson???) are the best and occurred before he ever coached a game.  Since then, not one coveted recruit.

We used to always have at least one player in the running for first team all B10 honors.  I don't think we've had one since CTC.

The talks of Cams recruiting being good have been a little over blown including by me.  He’s recruited Indiana well but hasn’t turned that into any success to speak of.  Outside of Indiana he’s been at very best mediocre

I agree. Is Lander the only guard on the roster ranked better than 120th in their class out of high school? I think he is.

Phinisee, Durham, Leal, Franklin, Galloway, and even Stewart were all 120+.

This is freakin Indiana basketball and in year 4 there is only one guard on the roster ranked better than 120, and that player plays 2mpg!?!?

That is why our guards stink.

People would have freaked out about that more before now but four of those six guys are from Indiana and in some people’s minds that fact trumps their rankings. Inside out is great, until it isn’t. (For the record I do like those guys, but your point is spot on.)

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Franklin, Galloway and Leal in particular, but those guys are so much better when they're surrounding a Yogi or another high level, NBA talent guard.

Archie hasn't been able to do that.

You know a lot of people (not you) like to point to how well he has recruited. But has he to the level he gets credit for?  If we had brought in guards with that ranking from out of state would people still act like that was first class recruiting or would they be grumbling that the guards weren’t the level we need?  I maintain the recruiting success has been exaggerated because the kids are from Indiana. His whole inside out statement at his intro presser was like basketball porn to some, but it hasn’t panned out all that well as of now. To be fair, Romeo and TJD are legit recruiting successes and I hope Lander turns out to be.

I have become negative lately but to be fair, Yogi was not that good in his early years. He was notorious for getting up in the air with nowhere to go. He had the good fortune of being surrounded with good players.... much better than the talent on this roster.

I do think Lander can be the guy, he just has to mature

Is there another Yogi that I don't know about? Yogi Ferrell averaged 17ppg as a sophomore, and finished 6th on the all-time scoring list and is the school's all-time assist leader.

He had some leadership growing pains, though you could fault Crean more for not having a good team around him after Zeller/Oladipo/Watford/Hulls left, but Yogi was really good from day 1.

Just my two cents but Painter offered or was told he had no chance at every single player 1-7 not named Race Thompson and Al Durham on our roster. He wanted TJD, Leal, Galloway, Rob and on and on.....Dakich is real good at coming around with I told you so mantra. Many are. Including what seems like the majority on this board recently.

Dakich is not a guy I'd listen to on the subject. But since Dakich is who some think is the gospel....I ask again. When Painter went 4 straight years without a tourney win after being on the job for 7 years....what did Dakich say at that time? Just wish that windbag would come on this board.

All due respects but Yogi was a me first point guard his first couple of years. He may have averaged 17 ppl but how many shots did he take to get there?

He eventually became the pg you are referring to, but there were definitely growing pains.

My point is, I am not selling Landers short. Nor am I questioning the recruiting decision to bring him to IU. I do believe that he can be as good as, or even better than Yogi, if he is surrounded by similar talent

If Dakich came on this board, I may have to quit my job, divorce my wife, and kick the kids out of the house  so I could spend more time on here.

Yep.  Yogi definitely took some heat because he was the alpha dog from his sophomore year on, but we haven’t had a guard in the last four seasons seasons that could hold his jock strap.

I guess I don't really get your point. You said, "Yogi wasn't that good his early years." I guess it depends on what you expectation was of him. He wasn't a perfect player and he had growing pains early on, as all players do, especially insanely hyped point guards, but you don't average 17ppg in the Big Ten as a sophomore unless you're really, really good.

Crean put a crappy, dysfunctional team around a 5* sophomore point guard. That's more on him, than Yogi.

We haven't had a guard that could hold a freshmen Yogi's jockstrap, let along compete with a senior Yogi.

He blocked me in every way possible when I called him out on air and on twitter about how cozy he was with Sampson, Senderhoff and the whole crew....while he kept saying in public how much he despised them.

Doesn't ring a bell. Was he in the premi board? I only paid for that site for 1 year and the rest of the time was on the free board.

Regular board and he did not post often.  I went over there today and he posted in the thread about his comments that he made
