It’s time... Fire Archie Miller

I thought with Crean he was about to leave on vacation or was already on vacation when he got the call.  I think Crean was pretty surprised when he got the call and was told he was being fired.

The way the Crean era ended was handled about the worse you could do it. The buyout, the extra year, everything was handled terribly IMO

I remember one year the rumor going around was that Crean was looking at different jobs because he wanted out. We saw that wasn't true and at the end of the day he cam back and most was disappointed.  I just hope this is not going to end the same way where he stays and most will be upset.

Most will be upset if he comes back no matter what unless he wins big, but definitely will be upset in the off season.

Romeo is one of the most unappreciated, under-used talents in my IU fanhood history. The kid was a game changer and made an impact and spent alot of his time standing in the corner based on the coaches schematic.

Even with a hand injury, he was special.  That team had many pros.  Two NBA kids in Morgan and Langford and a future oversees pro in Green.

Yep! I was just responding to when you said in your original post we needed a breakthrough recruit to establish a brand and an identity.

Usually I lose for about thirty minutes (Joe Maddon way) and I move along.....but 2-20 the other night from 3. 2 for frickin 20 and I guarantee that's what Archie is thinking every hour this week.

I think I remember someone posting earlier in the year where our shot selection and where our shots were being taken from was one of the best in country. Problem we have is our kids can't make shots. They just can't.

Now since I have to qualify every post recently....I'm not saying Archie isn't without fault...but 7 bunnies and 3 more free throws per game might have a big difference on the annual report card in the W/L department.

I got the same feeling. I found it interesting that he mentioned the spirited huddles and how the players were speaking out and directing things. He said, “It was nice that the coaches didn’t have to do a lot of talking during time outs because the players all spoke up.” Hmmmm...

I think Archie has a dry sense of humor. :)

For those disappointed send me a private message and I'll take your tickets off your hands in a second next year.

PS...Crean was upset because he knew he was a lame duck i.e. recruiting.... Fred knew he had egg on his face for extending Crean early when he shouldn't have.....and on the flip side he didn't handle the end game well either.

The treatment of Coach Crean and his family by some members of IU nation was more than awful, and should never happen again.

For sure, but that has been an obvious negative over the last four years - making adjustments and tweaking players form.  We just don't see it.

I'm not saying they don't, but it isn't translating.  Morgan went to a shot specialist- Justin's dad was tweeting about it.  Learned today from the article shared, Franklin is seeing a trainer that broke down game tape.

Now, I'm not talking about Standford R. Extreme and get a left hander to start shooting right handed.

What cam translate to maybe translate is changing up the D from time to time to get more transition points.

Just thinking that we get our hopes up thinking their is going to be a change then if there is not a change it will be a let down.

All good points and normal discourse/conversation. I miss that around here. Haha!

I get the Coach is the lightning rod. He gets paid to be in college....but and there is always a but....these players better hit Cook this Spring/Summer...or wherever some of them might end up because we've consistently missed bunnies. I'm not talking 18 foot release everything shots off the elbow....I'm talking 2 frickinfoot shots all year long. That isn't coaching.

I think Glass' contract with CAM's poor record has painted the Admin into corner and they have no clue how to exit the box in which they find themselves.  CAM is now a dead man walking and could yet have 3 more nails to place in the coffin if IU loses to PU, 1st game BTT, and possible NIT if bid was received.  The optics for them are terrible and completely unacceptable..  They've had some cover due to Covid and no fans being in the stands. Otherwise we could have witnessed  CAM and the team suffering unimaginable outrage live and on TV due to the home losses we have had this year.

Dolson's comments are telling in not mentioning winning as the top priority for the program.  BGleas mentioned this above and noted the other aspects are a a given.  The Admin has been willing to limp along for 20 years with poor Coaches.  They've done just enough to keep fans at bay.  As others have mentioned, they just want to be able to win enough to calm the masses and preserve their $ flowing in from TV, IU apparel and other items, and of coarse donations to to the Varsity Club and Season Tickets. They are still stuck in the "we're never having another RMK at IU again" mode.

I have been a season ticket holder for both FB and BB for more than 25 years.  I am now at a point of not renewing BB tickets because I think the Admin is just using me at this point.  I may keep my FB Season tickets because I do finally believe in CTA.  I think the Admin simply stumbled into CTA and Moren for that matter.  I don't think either are willful and thoughtful candidates sought by a committed Admin in their respective sports.

This Admin is going to have to prove to me that they are committed by their actions.  I'm no longer interested in their words.  They need to negotiate their way out of this mess and CAM needs to resign this year.  They cannot bring him back next year given fans will be returning this year with the Covid Pandemic winding down and they will be merciless on national TV if the same product is on the floor.  They need to hire a good coach as a replacement and give their reasons why he is their man and show they are going to work with him and state that compliance will be more mercurial going forward.  They need to give him the keys and let him drive the car.  They just need to supply the fuel.

2 things in response.....

1) Scott Dolson is all about winning

2) If you don't renew basketball tickets you'll lose 250 for consecutive years buying bball tickets points; consider buying at least 1 adult and 1 youth ticket to keep those points active and accumulating - you might need them for optimizing your football seats!  What a flip-flop that would be. LOL!

Mrs Stoller who do you want as a replacement? Ideally? Putting you on the spot 😂

First, if this ends up not working out for CAM, I wish him all the best going forward.  He is a good coach, and I'm certain he'll land well on his feet.  I liked his hire and I'm disappointed for all that it hasn't worked out better so far.

Having said that, if the coach's position opens up, my dream list:

1. Brad Stevens - I mean, of course.  I'd like to see the Butler Way introduced to IU.  I think we kind of had that back in the day.

2. John Beilein.  He's available, proven winner, classy guy.

3. Chris Beard - just have heard his name a lot on this board; seems solid; Texas Tech is more than a mid-major I think, and he is accustomed to having to coach in a state with a lot of great teams, so I think coming to Indiana might be appealing.

4. Dane Fife - maybe as an assistant to Beilein if not the HC.  Line him up to take the reigns.  I like his passion, his energy, he's funny, could probably tour with Pat McAfee during the off-season.  But he's been the AC for a great head coach, love or hate MSU.  Izzo consistently has his teams at the top of their game late in the season.  And I just like Dane Fife. 😂

5. Fred Hoiberg - maybe he'd like a different B1G school.

6. Randy Wittman - bring him to IU for a few; Dane Fife under him; other solid assistants. He's been an NBA player and coach, played on an NCAA Championship team.

7. Beyond that, I'm not sure.  I want to find that coach who can find those tangents to get IU and the players to the next level, like Coach Knight.  No one has mentioned Mike Roberts, current assistant. I like him. I think he's well-liked by fellow coaches and players as well.  He also gets "it". I don't know that that's the direction IU wants to or needs to go in, but I think he's solid.

How's that?

Trust me. I know you the game. I'll say it again the worst mistake I made was not buying season in year 2 of Crean. I'd be in 17th row main by this point.

Just got done listening to his show....I didn’t hear anything cryptic or strange from Archie. He said the same type of comments I stated earlier....”good physical practices, banged up, Blah, blah blah... did anyone get anything else different?

So basically in code words....we’re going to lose the next one! 😁

Early in my own personal coaching experience as an assistant, I was assigned during warmups the free throw line with the pad.  Players making layups...but I'll never forget the head coach came up to me and said something along the lines of...these kids are going up with the ball below their shoulder - It's your job to never let that happen again.

So, my personal story is how I would like to reapond.  Layups, footwork, hands around the basket are fundamental, and coaches inforce and teach their methods, which can differ.

Players need to preform.  And up until this year I had every excuse for this staff....but the same fundamental flaws keep occurring.

And yes, the players have to work hard this offseason.  As Brian Evans said recently - 70% of player development is the player and the other is the coaching structure.  Without the coaching structure the 70% is much more difficult.

This feels like a vital 72 hours for Insiders to crack the whip on their sources. Let’s go people I don’t come to message boards to talk DC Comics and Zack Snyders Justice League...

...well actually...some...BUT seriously we need sources and rumors. 😈

2 weeks.

That's when SNJL is being released and we should also know if Miller is staying or going.
