Fitting quote from White Sox player given our discussion yesterday.

How about this BA/OBP for Yasmani Grandal so far: .121/.388 "I'm done swinging at pitches that they want me to swing at. If you make a mistake, I'm going to crush you. If you don't then I'm going to walk."

Stupid random stat of the day.

Eric Hosmer of the Padres is the only qualifying batter with a negative average launch angle on the season

https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/statcast?type=batter&year=2021&position=&team=&min=q&sort=3&sortDir=asc

Since 2015, only 3 players have completed an entire year with a negative average launch angle.  Hosmer has one of those seasons, in 2018.

Stupid Random Stat of the Day

In the 2002 season, there were 3 qualifying starting pitchers that averaged over 10 strikeouts per 9 innings.

Their names?  Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, and Pedro Martinez.  A pretty dang good group.

So far this season, there are 15 qualifying starting pitchers averaging over 10 strikeouts per 9 innings.  It's an impressive list.  No scrubs in the group.

But, 15 compared to 3?  The game has changed.

I don't know if I would call that alarming but it sure as hell is telling of the game today.

Great story recapping all of the brawls in the NL Central over the last decade.

There was one sided brawl in Pittsburgh last night.  The Reds seemed to have taken their hitting woes out on the Buccos.  And fwiw Cincy's pen did not piss another one away for Mahle.

The Giants have the best record in the NL at 21-14.

4/5 of their starting rotation are former Reds (Cueto, Desclafani, A. Wood, and K. Gausman

Those 4 pitchers are a combined 11-2 on the season.

Yeah, irony at it's finest.  I really wanted to keep Disco.

The Mendoza Club is thinning out.  Down to 18.  Still too big of a number for such an exclusive club.

After a Mother's Day promotion, the Mendoza Club has seen an increase in membership.  Back up to 20.  Eugenio Suarez has been elected President of the club.

Stupid Random Stat of the Day.

Mark Canha of the A's has been hit by the pitch 9 times so far this season through Oakland's first 36 games.  Over the full season, this would project to him getting hit 40.5 times, which would be 5th all-time (2nd all-time in the modern era).

Hughie Jennings holds the record at 51 in 1896.  The modern record was set in 1971 by Ron Hunt with 50.

I think Casey Stengel once said of Hunt, "This kid's 20 and in 10 years he's got a chance to be 30."
