Look. We're not going to change each other's minds. But, from my point of view, State Championship Day is one that every college coach in the entire state, from JUCO to NAIA all the way through DIII, DII, and DI should mark on their calendar each year. Don't go and it is an opportunity missed. I'm not going to automatically assume anything. I have been burnt by that too many times.
btownqb
Is it even believable that CMW believes he is above going to a state championship game? 🙄
RoadToZion
Oh my God get over it Fouls. Coach just went through end of the year meetings and got rid of all our weak links. You should be happy. Let the man live. Jesus Christ. 5
Popular Post IUJoe
Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion, but, quite frankly, I'm a little tired of coaches at Indiana University thinking they have to spend every waking moment pandering to Indiana high school coaches and players. What has that gotten us in the past couple decades? A lot of players who have used an IU offer as something to brag about until they get something they want more? Look, Indiana high school players have a blue-blood program right here with a coach that has been in the NBA for over 30 years, who knows how to get people there. Indiana coaches and players know where he is without him having to show his face at every single event, looking desperate and just like everyone else. If Indiana high school coaches and players think it's more attractive to go learn how to sumo wrestle at Purdue, MSU, or Wisconsin rather than prepare for the NBA, so be it. Indiana is a national program, and under Woodson should be able to get great players from everywhere. The Indiana kids will soon-enough know what they missed out on. 10

Not at all. I'm not beginning to assign a reason why he didn't attend. I'm simply dissecting the potential consequences. Let's pretend there were two random high school coaches at the game. Coach #1 has no players in his system that could sniff IU and thinks it's cool to get to shake Tom Izzo's and Matt Painter's hand. No harm no foul. Coach #2, on the other hand, has an incoming freshman with potential. While shaking Izzo's and Painter's hands, those coaches take time start the relationship building process. That's an opportunity missed, in my opinion.

I assume Painter and Izzo are smart enough to stay away from teams and kids on the day of their state championship, I don't think they even spoke with XB in person yesterday. I'm sure it wasn't the easiest week Coach has ever had. But, Painter didn't exactly have a glorious week either.
btownqb
We might just be out of the running for XB because of Dane Fife. 🤷♂️ I don't have that info to know that. I am confident he absolutely pissed them off though. They= XBs camp.

I'll lay money that, for both those coaches, the trip to Indy just wasn't about XB. It was also about other relationships/kids they may want to look at down the road. Good grief, the fan base ripped TKR up one way and down another for choosing Purdue. That was 100% a relationship based decision on his part. How many times has the fan based cried about Izzo clawing a player out of the state? How many times is someone going to bring up the fact that Crean blew it with in-state coaches. It's hypocritical to change the narrative to fit the story at hand.

I've read lots of things questioning his motor and commitment to improving, unless I'm confusing him with someone else.

But, there are plenty of solid reasons that could be the reason for that. It was coaches birthday this week. What if his wife said on our birthdays or holidays out of season... we always spend a weekend together? I'm just saying its workable that he could not have atrended yesterday, but also shouldn't be categorized as incompetent. I don't think you have necessarily done that, some have though. No question. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not.. coaches are actually humans as well, and holy cow... maybe he needed to mentally relax for a night and watched the games on TV. All of that is way more believable then... he doesn't care. 2
IU Scott
Maybe we already know that Booker isn't interested in IU. Didn't he already cancel a couple of visits so that would show he isn't interested in us.
Steubenhoosier
There is already an anti-Xavier movement here led by someone who purportedly has significant ties to the program and at least alludes to the fact that he has helped us somehow to win games. Maybe this is a calculated move by the coaches to not provide ammunition 😁😁

Couldn’t Woody make that up by talking to those coaches one on one. Maybe he sends something out that says if you’re an Indiana coach and want to talk one on one here’s a number to reach me to set something up. A coach is going to get max 5 minutes in a setting at championship games because of the environment. Building it in a more personal setting is the better play anyways IMO.
