Favorites and Villains

That was OSU's Luke Witte they attacked (and Corky Taylor was the one who kneed Witte in the nuts)...Rudy T ran into Kermit Washington's fist in the NBA...

How could Magic Johnson be a villain?  You have to appreciate greatness!  Favorite ever Buckeye has to be Bob Knight!  Others can be discussed.  As for IU, my favorite will always be Jimmy Rayl.  If i have to pick a least favorite it would be Larry Bird, for leaving (yes, I know that's greatness also.).

Fun topic. My answers are pretty simple.

Villains-Mostly fan bases like Illinois, Purdue...and in last 20 years Sparty/Sconny. I have a bigger problem with coaches than players though for a variety of reasons. Henson, Weber, Davis, Raveling, Keady, Painter, Izzo, Williams,  Ryan, Frieder, Fisher.....the rest either I don't care enough about or blame our own ineptitude to making games vs Nebraska, Rutgers, Northwestern, Penn St painful to watch some years.

I've got plenty of hatred built up over the years but again I blame IU for making the last 20 years impossible to watch at times.

Other players I've liked from a distance. Sam Dekker, BJ Armstrong, Scott Skiles....Jay Burson and in a weird way Jalen Rose. I thought he was a punk at the time....but over the years I've changed my opinion on the guy.

Surprised Craft wasn’t mentioned earlier. Perfect Villain that you love to hate, but want him on your team.

I wish I could have seen Rayl play.  I wish they had good video from that era.

2 Villains come to mind.  Craft from OSU and Recker from Iowa for being a traitor.

Recker was a kid I totally overestimated.  He never reached his potential because he wasn’t willing to be coached hard.  He left a lot of meat on the bones for his career.  6’6 with a good skill set.  He was happy to play at a certain plateau.  Good villain because he was billed as an IU type of  player and he was anything but that.

The will to win is not nearly as important as the will to prepare to win.Everyone wants to win but not everyone wants to prepare to win. preparing to win is where the determination that you will win, is made. Once the game or test or project is underway, it is too late to prepare to win. The actual game, test or projetc is just the end of a long process of getting ready, in which the outcome was really determined. So if you want to win, you must want to prepare to win. Once you prepare to win, winning is almost anti climatic." - Bobby Knight

I don’t know that the quote could be any more appropriate than it was for Recker.

Man, I remember being so excited about Recker, that whole few years seemed to wreck us between him, Reed, Collier, etc etc etc.

Often I’ve wondered if Coach had bent a tad bit, what could he have accomplished. In hindsight we’ve bent so much in every aspect of life, maybe digging in your heels is the proper move. Who knows

Anybody remember "The Twin Midgets" that were Troy Taylor and Ron Stokes from tOSU?  Both were like 5-9, although with the afro Taylor went 6-7, and pesky mofos.  I hated those two with a passion.  But they were quite the dynamic duo for the Bucks as both finished their careers with over 1,200 pts.  And with that said I still dislike them with a passion.

Yeah, I remember them...early 80s, right?

They were pesky, but not nearly as annoying as Allan Hornyak in the early 70s...
