The Bengals decision is interesting.    Theoretically, they still have a chance at the #1 seed if KC and Tenn lose.  Granted, that scenario will probably not play out, and the Bengals will know part of the puzzle before they take the field because KC plays on Saturday.  It will be very interesting to see if they stick to their guns should the Chiefs lose.

But, the more interesting part is that the Bengals seem to prefer the 4 seed over the 3 seed.  Assume the Bengals lose.  The Bills or Patriots win and take the 3 seed.  Assume it's the Bills that get the 3.  As the 4 seed, the Bengals get Patriots round one for a possible matchup against Tennessee in round 2 (should the seeding hold).  I can see where the Bengals would prefer that over a Round 1 matchup of Colts/Chargers/Raiders followed up by a possible Round 2 game against the Chiefs in KC.

Is that the way Bengals management is looking at it?

I haven't dove into the playoff scenarios yet but everything you just wrote makes sense to me....and if the Bengals are looking at it that way I have no problem with that either.

First off, congrats to @Hoosier51and @Parakeet Jonesfor winning the championships this year.

Here are my thoughts on next season.  Granted, this would require the league managers to set up new leagues, but I think it makes it interesting to switch up membership, at least initially.

I would like to keep two 12 team leagues.  The 12 team setup with the bench size we had this year was perfect.  Allows for just the right number of good waiver pickups to be available.

  • I thought it might be interesting to 'shuffle' the league membership each year by taking the Top 6 from each league and making it the 'HSN Champions' league, while the bottom 6 in each league would be paired in the 'HSN Football' league.   This setup would allow everyone an opportunity to compete against different guys they may not have been in the league with before.
  • Since Kev was in Top 6 in both leagues, he can't have 2 teams in Champions league, so that would pull one of my teams up since I finished 7th during the regular season in both leagues.  Sorry Mr. Flynn and Blue. I know you guys got me in the 7th place game in the consolation bracket during the playoffs, but without hitting the waiver wire, it was difficult for anyone in the consolation bracket to make the roster moves necessary to keep a healthy team on the field, especially with Covid. Plus, my plan is to still field two teams, so having one in each would be necessitated.   For stepping up and fielding two teams this year, Kev would still have the ability to play a second team in the non-champion league if he desires.
  • Being in the Champion league would be a one-year membership only.  Players would have to qualify for the league each year by finishing in the top 6 again.  That's with 1 caveat.  The winner of the Champions league would get a 1-year exemption.  For example, the year after winning Champions, if they finish 8th the following year, they get to stay in the Champions league for an extra year using a recent champion exemption. So, in that scenario, only 5 teams would move up from the other league.
  • For next year only, since we will have 2 defending league champions, they both will receive the 1 year exemption.  So, if they both finish Top 6, a full 6 teams would move up from the other league.  If only one does, then only 5 teams would move up.  If neither finishes top 6, only 4 would move up.
  • Any new league members would automatically be placed in the Non-Champion league.  If a Champion league member decided not to play, we would look at promoting the highest scoring 7th place finisher from the previous season (regular season for reasons stated above).  If that happens for the upcoming season, since I finished 7th in both and am already promoted, we would look to the highest scoring remaining team with the best regular season record (tdhoosier, mrflynn, & blue, in that order, as all finished 6-8 during the regular season).
  • My one request is that, if you do decide to play next year, please compete until the bitter end.  Even if your team is injury riddled and non-competitive, make sure that you try to field a complete roster and the most competitive team you can each week.  The difference between a 10th & 11th place finish may not be important to you, but depending on how the weekly schedule plays out, it could make a world of difference to those battling for that 6th, and final, spot to make the playoffs, as well as to gain or maintain membership in the Champions league. Starting next season, regularly failing to make an effort to field a complete or competitive team will result in not receiving an invitation to join in subsequent years.
  • Formal planning for next season will begin in June.  When we reach out at that time, please consider whether or not you wish to commit to playing next season.  If you decide not to, that's fine.  We will solicit new members if needed.  If you decide not to play next season, but decide you would like to play again in future seasons, that's fine as well.  I expect some roster spots to open up each year, and if push comes to shove, Kev and/or I could drop down to fielding one team.
  • I personally think Kev & KDB did a great job setting up the rules and scoring for this year.  I personally would not change a thing, but I will throw it out there for discussion if you would like to see something set up differently.  That's not a guarantee it will be changed, just that we will consider rules changes that make sense and would be popular with the majority.

Based on this year's final results, here are what the league memberships would look like if we kept the same 24 teams.

HSN Champions League: @Hoosier51 @Parakeet Jones @btownqb @Seeking6 @KoB2011 @B_A @Indykev  @rico @dgambill @NotIThatLives @Sagamore @5fouls

Well done and as long as I'm on Earth and IU hasn't driven me away from message boards I'll gladly play again! Thanks to you guys for setting up. I don't see anything that really needs to be changed other than (sounds like it was an issue in other league) making sure whoever is playing make a full lineup. Takes 40 seconds a week...haha!

PS for those still playing this week in leagues or maybe DFS stuff I found this today. Might help as you do lineups.

I am cool with that.  And thanks 'fouls for what you did as well as Kev and KDB.  I had a blast and look forward to next year.
