If anyone wants a point of reference, watch Foster Loyer play for MSU. I haven't seen the B10 guard he can cover yet, and I've watched a lot of their games...6'0" 170 lbs...

Also for people who wants Dane Fife as the next coach here, he was the one the talked Izzo in taking Loyer.

Yeah, l heard them talking about that in the Illinois game...Izzo was staring down Fife when Loyer first turned it over, then got beat like a tom-tom on the break the turnover created, then fouled on top of it...

But he's from Fife's high school...Clarkston...

Wonder if they have a last train to there...

No ...thats true...and I know nothing about the MSU kid he mentioned so I can’t comment ....if I’m going off past rankings though I do think like should be a 150-200 kid I think he plays to that level or has the potential to ....personally Im becoming disenchanted with the top 100 guys that aren’t four year players or maybe even in general ....is it just me or do those kids seem less coachable and have less heart as a whole ( obviously this is a generalization and doesnt apply to every kid I just am noticing it more across the college landscape )

Wait seriously ? I know a guy who played in high school with fife oddly enough ! I bet he’ll have some local knowledge given it’s his alma mater and they are still in the area

Great point if you’ve seen him play and he can’t defend ....I’ll try and look up some high school footage later

Just watch an MSU game...he does get time, but he's overmatched on the defensive end big time...his offense is ok...

Was he 96th rated before MSU got involved?? Sometimes I wonder if schools move the ratings more than the kids play. Numbers being so arbitrary...seems once a big name coach sees a kid they jump up. Maybe he was...or maybe he got attention and that vaulted him up because recruiting sites can't watch all these kids and just go off who is recruiting them.

Spent the Morning and afternoon Reading up on the kid and I’m shocked but I see how the dots got drawn.  I watched every highlight I could find from high school and read every eval I could get my eyes on.  The kid is less athletic and not as quick as brown but he’s an amazing shooter and he has a 110% heart and motor.  He got an offer from MSU in junior high and from Purdue during high school.  He won’t a state championship in the largest division was a four year start and a 2000 point scorer ...was Michigan Gatorade player of the year a couple times.  The reason he got MSU offer is he plays for dan fife ( Danes dad ) AND his dad was the interim coach or the Detroit Pistons ...I’m guessing there was some serious pull there ...looks like a great kid with high motor and iq and an ultra reliable shot but I don’t think he gets the MSU offer without the fife and nba connection as iufla pointed out there is some defensive liability he’s even smaller than brown

Yeah...I'd say if you put Luke on Dane's dad team he probably gets as much attention if not more and gets a higher ranking. Luke plays in obscurity. Just a fact. He is going to have to stand out in AAU to get anywhere near the attention he deserves. I like Luke....I could see him playing for IU as sort of a specialist role...spot up 3's, shoot free throws down the stretch..extra ball handler. Thing is...Archie doesn't really run plays to get specific guys shots/open looks. How many times have we run say a double screen or set staggered screens for a wide open 3 for a kid? We don't play zone defense...we don't hide guys on defensive end...the offense and defense rely heavily on lateral quickness, ability to get a step on your man and create and to keep your man in front of you. It just isn't Luke's strong suit. Under Crean this kid absolutely could see the floor. We just aren't a match style wise.

Commited 11/22/16 so all of the rankings movement is after that...

Good points, all...I think we see it with Al. He's not Uber quick and he's not really strong. Toussaint was taking him to the hole last night and he's a freshman (albeit one with a strong body). He couldn't handle Evelyn either. One over looked part of the game last night was Devonte's defensive play. As soon as he took over for Al, neither Toussaint not Evelyn did much.

If Luke can get at least as strong as Jordy Hulls, he can play somewhere. I know some of the more knowledgeable posters on this board say he'll never play for IU, but...

You’re correct ...Dg had not only a couple solid stops he had a super athletic steal in the first half while He was on his 3 point binge ...took the ball away and kept it inbounds bear the bench hash mark

I see one of the problems with recruiting today is that everyone thinks that every recruit should be able to come in a be star.  What is wrong with getting a recruit or two that is going to play a role and that could be coming off the bench as a specialist.  I know kids want to be able to come in and contribute big things early and if they don't they leave.  Say a kid like Brown he could come in and play 10-12 minutes a game early in his career for shooting and come in late to shoot free throws.

Or redshirt a year and still do that ...get him in a college weight program and he could be a 185-190 pound kid ....I still say our only hope is to have a team full of juniors and seniors that play smart team basketball without necessarily having a stud 20 ppg player and then supplement that line up with one or two  talented /athletic  1-2 year kids rated high on everyone’s board

Alot of talk about brown on another board. Word is getting out and only a matter of time before he gets some big offers it seems. IU should pull the trigger soon.

Another iu board or another school ?? If he goes power 6 I’d hate to see him anywhere outside Indiana and id hate worse to see him at Purdue

I think the game at northwestern against tayson Parker opened some eyes

Well that is just as much the recruits expecting to be a star and play big minutes right away as much as others expecting it. Absolutely nothing wrong with telling a kid he can carve out minutes doing the little things and later have an opportunity to start...but a lot of kids don’t want to hear that. Some rightfully so would rather play at a smaller school then sit but some get it...and I think those are the ones you look for....see Leal, Galloway, and Geronimo who all talk about just trying to come in and help...not be the man.
