Was just told by friend who I played with freshman year, and he was in the program for all four years… James took his playbook with him to Purdue.. was just told they’re having to change up the offense now.

IF this is actually true i say to heck with him then, i hope he doesn't get any carries there either and is forced to transfer to an even crappier team.

When he announced his intent to transfer and told the coaches how was he allowed to leave the meeting without turning in his playbook? At the very least a grad assistant should have walked with him back to his dorm to get it for him. Not sure I understand this. I know there are thousands of transfers every year but I have not heard about any kids taking their playbooks with them!

Either, really. There seems to be some excitement on Twitter.

Most of his production came in the Purdue game so it makes sense if that’s all they’ve seen of him. Over 2 years about 100 of 400 yards and 1 of 3 touchdowns were in that game.

Yeah I think that’s pretty much the general consensus. I haven’t seen anyone who thinks he’ll be our starter or 2nd string. I think people probably that are really excited are looking at his ranking coming out of high school which means absolutely zero once you get to college haha.

To me, it helps with depth in a thin RB room.

Well, I'm guessing any team that has watched our game tapes knows what offense we run.

I'm sure we could change up the names of the plays or however they call it in to the players if need be.

Of course, I have my doubts about james stealing a playbook.

It is true.. they’re not changing up the concepts and plays.. they’re changing up signals, language, etc.. two weeks out… so players have a lot they have to learn now!

I’d agree with @Stlboiler23. Definitely behind Horvath and Doerue. But we don’t have a lot behind those 2, so we can definitely use him. Hopefully he can get a waiver and play this season.

Does anything like that usually happen, or is this pretty rare?

This reminded me of this story...

"The Dolphins entered the pre-game locker room in Oakland two hours before kickoff. Upon changing into uniforms, an Oakland playbook was discovered in a locker, complete with audible calls, according to several players.

The playbook was delivered to the coach. He immediately dropped it in the trash can. And after their 18-game win streak was stopped that day, assistant coach Monte Clark half-jokingly asked Don Shula about throwing away the playbook.

"We'll win the right way,'' Shula said.

This was 1973. It sounds so noble, so forthright and also utterly obsolete in an NFL where modern technology keeps offering ways to cheat and teams evidently keep taking advantage of them enough to spur investigations."

Couple of thoughts.  The boilers hate to be referred to as "little brother", yet they hire our cast off assistants, and pick up as many IU transfers as they can.  They are clearly trying to be "IU Lite".  I don't want anyone who dons the black and gold at IU.

If the story about the playbook is true it is the ultimate d!*k move.  It looks really bad for Sampson's character, as well as Brohm's.  I'd hope Brohm' would refuse, buy I fear his seat it hot enough that he would resort to anything to save his hide.  At any rate, I hope Tom and the boys roll over the scoreboard in West Laffy this year.

That was my first thought in hearing the news. Playbook probably a lot more valuable than James!

You do realize how easy it’d be to just ignore me right? No idea why you get so worked up and can’t just ignore when I post.

FYI, @DC2345 LITERALLY asked what I thought about it lol.

Yep, I am of the OK Boomer generation, but I do think I have this internet thing figured out. It is way more fun dissing on you Toiletmakers.

Not "worked up" at all. I get "worked up" over things like Medicare, Depends, Metamucil, and Viagra😅

Little brother stuff is, as another poster on here says, "shew",

You forgot Geritol!  (Maybe I am dating myself, but I remember the Geritol commercials as a kid in the 1970s.)🤣

I asked my tOSU fishing buddy about the James "situation."  He said and I quote from memory, "None of us Bucks fans were tore up when James flipped to you guys.  We are that good, we don't worry about stuff like that.  If you Hoosiers are as good as what I think they are, then you shouldn't worry about him leaving either."

I think people are mainly not happy that he might have taken his playbook with him and that he did it going to the Toiletmakers. As far as his production on the field it is no big loss.

If I was Brohm I don’t know if I would’ve taken James if a player pulled a stunt like that. It’s one thing for a player to give intel after he transfers from memory and stuff like that but to take the whole playbook is ridiculous. If he gave it to Brohm then he should’ve burned it right in front of James. The IU staff should’ve gotten that playbook before he ever even finished informing the school he was transferring.

If it happened, it's a big deal.

Anyone who has watched Hard Knocks can see how important turning your playbook is. It's the same in Power 5 football as the NFL. Cell phones make it harder to protect the information and with the transfer rules being different now, we live in a different age of players being allowed to transfer to schools you previously should have wanted to kick the sh*t out of.

I will never understand or relate to a player who has put on an Indiana uniform and wants to play for that university in WL. I'm baffled.
