  1. With his actions so far, Dolson has earned my trust on whatever direction he thinks is best.

  2. Hire Scott Drew or Rick Pitino and embrace being the villains of college basketball instead of captain planet. Obviously trying to be holier than thou has gotten the program nowhere in the past 2-3 decades.

  3. If Dolson and the donors just coughed up 10 million to remove Archie to bring in Fife then something is terribly wrong with the water they are drinking. If I’m a donor in this situation, and you come at me now with the Fife plan, I’m subject to hit you with something before I call in Pat Kraft to replace you. Joking aside, kind of, there is more to the story that’s being kept quiet. I’m pretty sure, not positive that Dolson will prove to have got it right.

  5. Well I guess time to let my petty side come out that is a silver lining in all of this.... The Celtics lost to the Kings. Let me repeat the Kings by 11 and all the Celtics boards are asking IU to raise the price to get Stevens off their hands. Also Purdue lost to North Texas by 9 I believe. So silver lining about the gut punch tonight. Also thank you 0708 for all the insider info even if it turned out to be like an 18 year old that choose a different school than IU at the last minute. I will always support people willing to go out on a limb to help us IU junkies out cause I wil

  8. Won't try and pretend the events leading up to yesterday don't have me a tad ticked. With that said we took a mighty swing and missed. That's all we can ask is that we took the swing to begin with. I'm starting to lean more towards Beilein right now....although I'd be very happy with Beard or Musselman too....but I'm just going to sit out the who will it be speculation until his body is in front of mic accepting the job.

  9. Really, until someone raises the mic at the IU press conference, everyone is still on the table. In my opinion. How is this different than a corporate CEO situation? I’m saying this for a third time now, I believe the plan is unknown to everyone but those directly involved and that the CEO replacement is already in place. I could be wrong but I’m going to say it’s all timing and smoke.

  11. Obviously just my opinion, but to me hiring Alford is the IU administration saying they couldn't get anyone else to say yes. Because there is no way you go to him before you go to Beard, Musselman, Drew, Oats, etc. I can't think of a more uninspiring hire. At least with Fife you can play the "up and comer" card to drum up excitement. But Alford would just be a massive thud of a hire to me.

  12. Bob, I watched the TT game today specifically to see if I could tell the type of coach Beard has become. I saw a very tough minded, smart, gritty style of BB. No more mass substitution like we've seen under our past 2 coaches. When his team was down his best scorer had to sit for Fouls. The team responded with a run and took the lead. He continued with the players thru a TO to let them complete the run. I sas a lot of motion and VERY LITTLE standing on O. Good solid screens and the drivers used them the screens appropriately. D was Man-Man and a lot of pressure on the ball and int

  14. Pitino & Beilein would be the two best coaches we could get. Beard, Musselman, Oates, Matta & Drew is a step below (still 100 steps above Archie & Crean). Fife and the other IU guys are well below the group above.

  16. Here is what happened all the BS to IU stuff the last few days was an intentional leaf from the IU side to get all our fans excited to get people talking about Indiana during the tournament but it was all a big smokescreen to allow BS to come out and say he is Celtic loves Boston even a Patriot fan all just to get the Boston fans to be reassured all is well and to further tick off those that want him out. The IU fan base is deflated got our hopes up again and all of it was the master plan for him to give the middle finger to Boston and say I am a HOOSIER. All of this is the fictional en

  20. What’s Goodman’s problem? He’s being extremely unprofessional. If he’s got an issue with Mark Titus, work it out with him as a grown up. He may be underestimating and mis-calculating the reach of the Indiana fan base. Why on earth would he alienate us with the result that we won’t open up his podcasts or click on his links for an article? That’s just not smart business besides being unprofessional. In his digs, he’s also taking shots at other coaches as collateral damage.

  21. Fife and Alford played for a coach who couldn't adjust to modern basketball and modern society 20 years ago, so if they play to implement what didn't work 20 years ago 20 years later we are screwed. Dane Fife lobbied for Mike Davis. I'm not sure the Davis comment you're referring to was necessarily about former players - it might have more to do about how he and his family were treated by people of a certain mindset. That's definitely a very real problem in Indiana. Who did we hire that has a resume like Musselman or Beard? They've both won at multiple schools and shown a level of

  22. I’m torn. I can make a case for both. Beard in a lot of ways seems like the obvious choice. I’ve called him the “ don’t over think this” candidate a couple of times. On the other hand, Musselman intrigues me. NBA experience, knows how to work the transfer market, more up tempo offense, there’s a lot there to like. I could see us not picking him and looking back regretting missing our chance. Put a gun to my head and make me pick right now, I’ll say Beard. I’d be over the moon with either of them though.

  23. Beard vs Musselman. To me it’s like picking between Heather Locklear and Heather Thomas (did I just date myself...never mind). Beard. Can’t bury the lede. He’s from Knight’s coaching tree. As a result, not surprisingly, his teams play efficient basketball at both ends. They are tough. You can rest assured that when we run onto the court in Madison, or Ann Arbor, or Columbus etc., we will have a team with a snarl that’s ready to compete. This is a tough guy league and we have needed that on a consistent basis. Lubbock is basically in the south plains and way the heck out in the middl

  24. WE did not dodge a bullet, he'd have been a great hire. He's a great dude, he made a comment that was a bit silly and rubs people in Indiana the wrong way. I'd hope we aren't going to throw out his 15 years in public life where he has been nothing but stellar because of one comment that wasn't even really that bad.

  25. Musselman has the pro style and pro experience that recruits love (also a proven winner). Beard, the knight disciple whose teams play tenacious defense. It is a coin flip.

  29. I wasn’t “jacked.” Just taking it all in. Was hoping for a solid hire. It didn’t see anyone who had a “wow” factor. If no talk of stevens had come up, I would’ve probably seen a hire and sold myself as I did with Archie, and got a new shirt and said “let’s give it a whirl and be optimistic.” I don’t doubt any of the insiders were accurate in what they were hearing, it’s just an problem with it is that it lets all the air out of the balloon. Steven’s was the only grand slam hire. I think there are some triples and doubles remaining. But they’re not worth raising a flag in WI over. 😂

  32. I'm not going to lie, I got sucked in over the last day or so, but that was always the one holdup for me. I couldn't imagine Stevens leaving the NBA for college. Why would you want to deal with boosters, donors, AAU coaches, recruiting 16-18 year olds and dealing with their people, worrying about college kids not getting grades, etc., etc. The NBA is just easier. I dont mean the actual coaching and game, but you don't have all that other nonsense. I just see Stevens as an NBA coach at this point, and that was always in the back of my mind.

  34. Honest questions 1) why hasn’t Billy D popped up in any conversations this go around? 2) Did calling himself a “Masshole” AND a Patriots fan seems a little like an oversell? I mean, is it possible BS was throwing out a smokescreen? I mean, he was in Indy during the height of the Manning years, and is a Homegrown Hoosier. Seems like blasphemous stuff to say to the folks back home.... Maybe therein lies the answer. I hope Romeo gets traded.

  35. I know we're all very disappointed that we didn't get Stevens. Any other coach seems like a let down. Bummer. But look at it this way: We almost hired away the successful head coach of one of the 2 or 3 most iconic pro teams in all of U.S. history. Yeah I know "close" only counts with hand grenades, atom bombs, etc. But Dolson and IU almost did something that pretty much all of the fan base, NBA insiders, media, etc. thought was impossible. If Stevens would have went to IU, that would be an all-time shocker. Combined with Dolson's handling of Archie's firing I'm real sure we have th

  36. I didn't see what started the conversation, so I might have missed parts of it, but a couple differences between hiring Allen and hiring an assistant basketball coach to be head coach. In football, assistants have 10x the responsibility as what most assistants in basketball have. Much easier to see in football when an assistant will be a good head coach. With Allen, we also had him on staff for a season, so we could see what we had. Extremely hard/impossible to see that from an outside perspective. Sure, people knew he did a great job as a DC, but nobody from the outside would hav

  37. IU was 34th in KenPom last year, Texas Tech is 16th this year. How can you honestly argue with a straight face the seasons are comparable? EDIT: And the reason, @IUFLA I'm going at you hard on this and will continue to do so, is because you always say you have no problem with people disagreeing with you as long as they aren't making disingenuous arguments, but right now your arguments are every bit as disingenuous as those who pretend Archie wouldn't have made the tournament last year.
    4 points
  38. Yeah, sorry, that's not comparable. After his first year at Tech, Beard went E8, Runner Up, Cancelled Tournament, and playing to go to the S16 tomorrow. He even won a game in the tournament his one year at ALR. Look, I like Archie and think he'll be a good coach somewhere. But at this point there is no reasonable comparison to be made. And way to use win totals, what a laughable argument when you, me, and everyone else knows that last two 18 win seasons are shortened seasons. Take at two seasons that he lost games to Covid and he is very likely averaging 25 wins per year over

  40. I lean slightly towards Muss, but I'd be thrilled either way. I think one thing that we should bring up with both of those guys, is what they've had to say about Assembly Hall. Everyone should read what Beard said yesterday or what Musselman said a couple years ago. These guys both "get it".

  41. To me Beard is as close to a sure thing as we’re going to get. I really think he legitimately checks most, if not all the boxes. I would be thrilled to have him as our coach.

  42. I haven't watched a ton of Musselman, but watched their game yesterday. Colgate was out to a double-digit lead in the first half. Musselman called a timeout, knowing they were athletically superior, they came out in a full court man press and forced about 4-5 turnovers in a few minutes and entered the half with the lead. When was the last time we've seen something like that at IU?

  46. IU job aside... The raise rumors are strange to me. I find it hard to believe the Celtics are giving him a raise with a losing record. The ‘mass hole’ comment was the weirdest of weird. I’m a Celtics fan. Not as die hard as I am for IU but some of his comments were off putting. The whole ordeal is just strange. I’m still sure IU has its man. Someone was on the hook for this process to take place. I’m just hoping it’s someone that can get it done and not another epic failure. I was certain a guy like Beard could succeed here. Now, I’m not sure anyone will. I don’t think there is
