  1. I was lukewarm on the idea of Woodson when he was hired. TJD coming back, the eye opening commitment of Tamar Bates, and assembling a top-notch coaching staff has changed my point of view. As I move toward being older (47), I have to hope that us older guys know more than people realize, and can still get it done. I was also thinking that maybe Woodson’s early recruiting success could be an effect of having the power of fully united group of IU alumni/ex players/ coaches, not to mention 30+ years of NBA credibility behind you. The momentum will be hard to stop, at least until we hit the court.
  2. I also grew up liking Showtime and the Lakers. Hated the Celtics. Became a Bird fan after he joined the Pacers organization. Appreciate Bird a lot more now, and there are some really good YouTube highlights out there of him.
  3. Sorry I’m at work and can’t do the research, but I’m pretty sure there was a picture floating around of what looked like Archie at a practice with Coach Woodson and Fife. Maybe he helped with the transition and kept a low profile.
  4. Tournament with a decent seed would be just fine with me
  5. I’m being a little pragmatic here, but I’d have to think after Dolson being the AD having been a manager on the ‘87 team, Woodson being an IU legend, Fife having played on the last IU team to appear in the NC game, I’d have to think that more care would be placed than making a reckless hire. Woodson wasn’t my first choice, but I do not think any of us think he doesn’t know what he is the steward of now- the IU program and it’s overall legacy. If you heard Fife on DD’s show, and realize that he left MSU to come here, and the level of passion and care for this program. We may not know the X’s and O’s, and what product will be put on the floor, but after what IU has been thru the last 20 years, I just cannot believe that this administration would risk any trouble.
  6. Random thoughts although related more to this thread than any: 1) is it possible that Armaan was an Archie loyalist? To me it’s very telling that none of the players showed any remorse or regret that he was fired. Maybe Armaan liked coach Miller and bought into the packline? 2) Does anyone else think that we need a legit big man, maybe from the portal? TJD is not a 5, and Kofi and a few others gave him fits. Offensively, he held his own, but it would be nice for Brunk/Duncomb and maybe someone else to spell TJD on the defensive end... 3) Confused by all the Brooks speculation. He has not even entered the portal, or has he?
  7. Fife news breaking on Twitter!! Back to work i go
  8. I just wanna say that these message boards are public, and are looked at by players and their parents more than we know. I know in the case of Franklin, his mother is very engaged in social media, and has even done some outstanding interviews on some podcasts. He seems like a good kid from a solid family, and if he goes to Illinois, does that make him a “traitor?” I am not necessarily referring to any previous posts, but also the things I am seeing on IUBB Twitter page. These are young men, and none of the “Tough guys” that played for RMK had to deal with people going on Twitter or Instagram and criticizing everything they do. For instance, I saw a lot of outrageous stuff said about RP, and we wondered why he froze up when shooting? Parents see that, too, and if the perception is that we have a jaded fanbase that will turn on these kids, ( and I know it’s most if not all schools) why wouldn’t they encourage their kids to try something new? None of these players came to IU with the imagination of boos raining down on them on their last game of the year. I would love to see Franklin back, but he needs to do what’s best for him, and IU will move on.
  9. Larry Brown? Are we going to go after Al Mcguire, or Rollie Massimino next? Maybe Denny Crum or Digger Phelps? I kid, and I mean no to disrespect to those who have passed. Just the first thing that came to mind. I remember how RMK used to hve older coaching buddies like Iba around. I pulled for Archie to succeed, but I am really pulling for CMW. He may be able to show that there is still a little gas in the tank
  10. Not the coach most of us wanted on our “wishlists.” But maybe many of those guys turned us down. Some of them publicly. Maybe this is where we are. But maybe Coach Woodson will turn out to be the coach we needed. Here’s to hope! GO IU
  11. Was Holtman a reference on Stevens’ application?
  12. Hate to dish on a fellow New Albany guy, but this is what older people tend to do on the internet; they express opinions in a local sense, not understanding that people in other localities or with other points of view may eventually read it. Didn’t age well, and it paints a broader picture of many IU fans who think we are still the premier destination for coaching. I hope I am wrong, but if we end up with a lackluster hire, it would be proof that we can’t lure the big fish anymore. Bad article.
  13. Absolutely! We are only speculating that Dolson has been whiffing, we don’t really know. The sense of dread and foreboding cones from not catching a break for 25 years. Heck, I postulated that maybe Stevens was over the top in his presser to thow everyone off the scent- someone called it strange.. I think Beilien is a really good coach, and we could have had him by now. Better coaches must be in play... More is going on than we know, and that could still be a good thing.
  14. Two observations: it’s obvious that the longer the search goes, the sense of foreboding grows a little in each of us that the job has lost it’s luster, and that all the fans thinking we can just name a name like Musselman, or Beard, and that those guys are just going to stop what they are doing and come to Bloomington, those days are gone. I think the potential is/was there for a program changing home run hire, but Dolson can force unwilling coaches to come. I think the feeling is that the longer this drags out, the more swing-and-a-miss Dolson has, and maybe we will end up with a lackluster hire- because it’s the best we can do. That’s a painful does of reality, and a source of frustration for all. Goidman and Matta trolling us tonight right after the “failed physical” story was disturbing and embarrassing. BUT, having been an “insider” before, ( my wife is friends with the mother of a former player) you don’t just give up sources, especially with the way rumors have been flying. Personal friends who tell you information can feel betrayed, and then, losing a friend over a message board. I think there is a real difference between the stuff we get here and out there- let’s try to keep it that way.
  15. I wouldn’t have a problem with Drew. Minus the Perea thing, Drew would be a good option, and watching Wisconsin get whooped like they deserve is fun.
  16. Honest questions 1) why hasn’t Billy D popped up in any conversations this go around? 2) Did calling himself a “Masshole” AND a Patriots fan seems a little like an oversell? I mean, is it possible BS was throwing out a smokescreen? I mean, he was in Indy during the height of the Manning years, and is a Homegrown Hoosier. Seems like blasphemous stuff to say to the folks back home.... Maybe therein lies the answer. I hope Romeo gets traded.
  17. Disappointed, but there had to have been a lot going on behind the scenes. Sounds like our AD did his diligence and swung hard for the fences, which is what we needed past AD’s to do. Still... a lot of things don’t add up. Maybe BS just doesn’t care about IU, otherwise, it’s hard to understand how he would be able to turn it down. Now, we get to watch guys in a Tom Brady jersey talk smack about how much BS sucks and they’ll eventually run him out if there anyway. Beard is next on my wish list, and his buyout is “only” 2.5 million, and he happens to be in town.
  18. Been going crazy looking at inferior sites. Don’t know if 0708 is the same on B’town Banners, but he put out something wonderful. I like it better here. What leads me to believe something big is going down is the story of the two donors (Cuban? Mellencamp?) ponying up large sums of money not only to buy Archie out, but to pay for the next coach. That, and the fact that Beilein is a darn good coach and he’s readily available and we didn’t just get him. Thirdly, although BS told the Boston radio guys he wasn’t coming, a few hours later before the Jazz game, he gave a really shaky interview and even spoke about Boston in the past tense. Not to mention that DD says 60% chance! (j/k) i think this thing has some legitimacy, and that is exciting
  19. Boot camp means Marine! Thank for your service! I was Army, and hated every second of Basic Training. To each his own. But I still feel like having an uncontrollable temper is still a major problem. Especially as a more mature adult. I feel like RMK felt like he would never be challenged toward the end. I teared up like everyone else when he came back, but then was forced to watch an uninspiring effort by our team against Purdue. That being the “last straw” for me with Archie.
  20. Don’t want Pitino for obvious reasons, BUT, there are a couple of things I want to point out. 1) we as fans should not assign Sainthood to RMK. Proven winner. One of the all time greats. Ran a clean program. But, for those of us who were alive during his prime, we all saw his uncontrollable temper. I read Season on the Brink when I was 12, and I thought I would not want to play at IU. The chair toss, and some of the tirades, along some of the pressers, still live on in infamy, and reflect negatively on IU to this day. Human beings can be savants at something and still possess less than honorable character. Therefore, Pitino is too much for my taste, living across the river from those who venerate him, ( much like we venerate RMK) but I can see the argument that he would be cheap, and very familiar with IU, and would love to go on one last ride to glory. 2) As much as I think Archie has run his course at IU, he has not been fired yet. The silence of the AD is telling to me, and with the tournament in this state, maybe Dolson is waiting for the right moment. But, this is a very complicated situation with many moving parts. My guess is that lots of things are going on behind the scenes. It’s fun to speculate on a potential replacement, but I am starting to wonder if Dolson will be able to pull something off. For the sake of IU, and even for Miller and his family, letting him go would be best for all parties- but it’s not done yet.
  21. The Colts used to be called “Count On Losing This Sunday.” Fans for other teams used to wear paper bags on their heads going to games. Losing creates a potentially toxic environment based on collective maturity levels. I think the mods here do a great job of keeping it clean and above the belt. You should see the garbage spewed at the #iubb twitter chat. Calling out players, etc. Winning cures a lot of ills. We are in uncharted territory. We are in a historical slump, there are no big name Recruits coming in ( to be fair, this is a FIRST for Archie) and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. We have now been losing for the most part for 25 years. We thought we were back, but lost it all vs a 2-3 zone...Not to mention the Fact that the tournament is completely in the state of Indiana. Frustrating times. I for one, still think this is fun, gives me something to check on during breaks at work. And I know we have too much pride in our beloved Hoosiers to let things stay down. We’ll be back!!
  22. I am behind him. I wish him nothing but the best for him and his young family. I am sure he will still coach D1 basketball and have a great salary, not to mention a nice early retirement nest egg courtesy of a 10 million dollar buyout, which, if managed right, could theoretically allow him to retire now, which would make him a very lucky man. But, he has lost the fan base, and now the media is starting to turn on him. Seems like there have been several incidents on the sidelines recently that suggest he may have also lost the team. I know we have some over zealous fans, but it’s not like that with me. I want Archie to succeed, but above that, I want IU to succeed, and this has just not worked out. Nothing personal at all, but there does not seem to be a path to success at this point, and the problems will just multiply from here.
  23. Sad state of affairs. So predictable. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that this team under Archie has not played with urgency at any juncture during “must win” games. They played terrible when RMk came back to AH, they only had to win - or 2 of their last 5, and have just given up. The Durham air-ball was a microcosm of the Archie era. Change has to happen at this point. The fan base is livid. Me? I just want to see effort.
  24. Hate it that Lunardi has taken a swipe at IU on Twitter. Hate being in this position. BUT, I’ll never find myself cheering for IU to lose for any reason. Winning the last two could cure a lot of ills.
  25. Al- good kid and gave IU all he had. Congrats on a good IU career. This... is what I expected, but it is still hard to see. Other teams making us look stupid, exposing our simplistic game plans. Just not good enough. And there is nothing to show me there are ANY chances for improvement. Sad.
