If someone is offering Essegian a starting spot, I’d bet money he’s taking it.  That’s how he’s been since he chose his school as a high school freshman.

I don't think any BIG10 team is offering him a starting spot.  If he wants to start, it will likely be at a mid major, but he will certainly make less NIL.  We will see what is most important to him, $ or playing time.

The fan reaction to Connor Essegian intrigues me. As a freshman he was a 36% shooter from three, on over 5 shots per game. The label of knockdown shooter was born.

But last year he was only 30%. His minutes fell way off, but his 3P attempt rate actually went up, as though he knew he was in there to do one thing.

So if he commits here, will we think we're getting the starter with good shooting percentage? Or are we getting the bench player who couldn't find that rhythm? Always fascinates me who gets called a Shooter and who doesn't.

Essegian was apparently dealing with a back injury much of the year last year.  If that was the case, that certainly could have impacted his playing time and performance.  I certainly believe he is better than his percentage last year.

So we still have options for that final spot.

    1. Antonio Reeves-shooter, scorer, not much of a defender.

    2. Simeon Wilcher-combo guard who wants to play point and probably expects starter minutes.

    3. Paul Mulcahey-pass first point, not much of a scorer but an intense competitor. also good size at 6'7"

Do we take any of these three?

I think any of the 3 could add value to the team, but Mulcahey is intriguing.  A senior with Big10 experience and good size that could play/guard multiple positions.  8.4 Pts, 3.6 Reb and 4.9 Ast (lead Rutgers) and not a bad 3Pt shooter either at 37%.  He is probably the kind of guy that Woody will like.  He has a high motor and is a good passer and would do all the little things.

Would be a significant piece, but I think it's a long shot.  Don't see where IU could commit 30 minutes a game to him, and some of the others on his list should be able to do that.

We need someone with his skill set that would be content playing 18-23 minutes a game.

Probably true, but it sounds like NIL is the biggest motivating factor for him transferring.  If it was only about playing time, he would have stayed at Rutgers.  It will be interesting what kind of NIL package he will command.
