I thought Sampson had some deal at UH where his son would become the next head coach when he retires... would that be out the window if he left? Courier-Journal says no, if he leaves, it "fast tracks" his son's ascendancy, wild.

Illini defense dropped from 60 to 94 in KenPom after a single game with 27 games of data already compiled, yikes.

Hopefully our resident Illini fan can come along and explain but Juwan Howard just said in postgame presser about Terrance Shannon Jr you're welcome....i.e. he committed to Michigan and went to Illinois instead. What's the story here?
I'm not your main guy....and I had totally forgotten about that rumor. I still don't 100% get it.

Mulcahy finally graduated? lol
Yeah, but don't be surprised if you tune in to any late games this year - grad year at Washington, hah.

I don’t get these big name exhibition games. TN wins at MSU, IL beats #1 KS and Ark beats PU. None of those wins count in the season record or tournament resume. What’s the point?
The Illini-KU game, at least, was a very late addition to the schedule, to benefit the community of Maui after the fires (presumably since both schools are in the regular rotation for that tournament...KU is going there this year, they had some sweet Hawaiian-print uniforms). The broadcast was pretty fun, both coaches miced up, both did in-game interviews.

Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk of Illinois in the portal...
Didn't get much time last year, and I don't know how he figured in Underwood's plans, but they aren't going to have a lot of size/depth up front
According to the scholarship grid on the forum, Illinois currently only has 9 on the roster next year, and the only ones who played meaningful minutes are Hawkins, Melendez, and Goode. Talk about your complete unknowns.

Seems to be some problems for IU President.

I just heard a news story about this yesterday, I think, though I can't find it. This same battle is happening between public universities and conservative legislatures across the country. Indiana isn't mentioned by name here, so maybe it's not even that contentious of a fight 🙂 But you can see some of the same points mentioned here (e.g., the grad students organizing).
