  1. Is it not addition by subtraction when you lose one of your team leaders who is averaging 15 pts./gm to add someone from another team who was averaging a little more, will not have the chemistry immediately, and had already added to discord in the locker room. I think coaches are going to have to lay down some guidelines for their programs, before locker rooms implode. This will only lead to bickering & jealously, and ultimately hurt the product. For the record, I am for NIL.

Question: When our Adidas contract comes up, can Adidas start paying players since they are wearing product, and could this serve as part of our negotiations. I don't know since you could not do it only in basketball, but basketball shoes are very different from a consumer point of view comparison to football cleats. Your players are showcasing those shoes each time they are on the court.

Wonder if IU will entertain changing to Nike?

  2. Glad its this weekend. Coach and the team can focus on him solely. Next week is Little 500, so this weekend works better. It would be great if JHS tagged along for the visit. He is in Chicago on Friday night for the Jordan classic, so he can just come on down for Saturday. I wonder if Reneau is playing in the Jordan Classic or is it only for Seniors? Regardless, only a short drive to come on down for the weekend. I am sure we could send a car for him.

I think if he wants to commit, we will make room for him somehow.

Man the lineups this year with him would be stacked, and next year WOW.

  3. The chemistry between him and Cupps is already established, so when Gabe arrives next year, you would have two guys on the court who can knock down the 3 and open up the court for our other players. I think he would earn a scholarship in time after reading about this kid. He is the kind of kid who competes, is an alpha, so those intangibles are so important. He is a glue guy, plus any player who knocks down 3's, sign him up.

  4. Do you think we will know anything definitive with Trayce or Race next week? I also wonder if he enters the draft, will he be definitive about leaving?

Those seem to be the last stories to be written unless JG decides to leave. I assume Woodson returns next week, so maybe we will hear something?

  5. Just sitting around and thinking how I come back each every day and hit refresh to see what is happening with the 5 and 4 star kids like Reneau and IU basketball in general. Then I thought about the last 20 years and wondered if we have some of it wrong?

You look at the Big 10 teams, for example Wisconsin, you don't hear a lot about the recruiting but year after year they are good. They focus on the 2 to 4 star kids who are not incredible athletes, but who compete, guard, and can shoot. Effort and shooting! These kids grow over 4-5 year periods with the team. They may never make the NBA, but they are great for the college teams.

That is why I love the recruitment of Cupps and more kids like this in the future! He has all the intangibles. He should be rated higher by the way, but he fits all those characteristics. Future is looking bright!

Sorry, I know Cupps is 2023.

  6. Joe Hillman replying after the game about the play and his commentary. "Bucket, just Bucket"   Short and sweet to explain one of the greatest shots in IU history. Smart took over the game in the last 5 minutes. As amazing as "the shot" was, some of the plays down the stretch were impressive. He contorted his body for shots which just amazed me.

It’s been that way since he reopened his recruitment.

Can you clarify on "its been that way since he reopened his recruitment"? Is he really interested in IU and have we made inroads? I know that it may be hard to surmise, but I guess I am looking for specifics on our pursuit of him. Who is recruiting him? Is JHS helping? Just curious as to any specifics anyone may know.

  8. Focusing on the positives for recruiting in the portal and High School.

When was the last time a player came back from their Sophomore season and actually went higher in the NBA draft. I am sure it happens, but not very often, in fact it usually goes the other way as the player falls down draft boards.

With TJD now expected to go late first round, early second round from being a player who would have gone undrafted last year, that is a feather in the cap for both coach and TJD, plus a really great recruiting nugget to use!

  9. This is my 2 cents on the matter.

Assumption is something all of us do each day. Just like finding a rationale for something we did. All of us do each day and we don't play it a second thought as we go on with life.

I am sure Fife thought he would be the next coach of IU, even if it was unsaid. I am sure it added to how he acted around everyone, what he felt he could do and not do. Why would he not feel this way? We all assumed he was the Head coach in waiting when he was hired, so why would'nt he?

Did this add to feelings you should be completely committed to IU before thoughts of NIL money. I am guessing so because his love of IU basketball and when he came through. Different times, and believe me as a Professor I see it and sometimes I want to say something, but I know I am singing in the wind. So yea I believe this happened, especially with the tweets, he went overboard. If any of the other is true, especially the recruiting, then he really stepped overboard, but the tweets alone was insubordination.

On Woodson's behalf he came from the NBA. He has been a college coach. How could you not have a little insecurity? I know I would, especially if coach is hired to be on my staff that I myself probably came to the same conclusion, coach in waiting, unless Dolson said something to him. Woodson had some missteps first season, he was an NBA coach acclimating to the college game. Takes awhile. Did Fife and he butt heads behind doors at time, I am sure they did. If you get along with someone, you disagree with them and then work out the differences.

In the end, it was a bad fit!! Anyone can throw blame around, but this may have been destined from the start do to different backgrounds and thoughts on how a college program should be run!

So wouldn’t this recruit just follow him?

What are most highly ranked recruits looking when they choose a school to play for? National coverage, what is the fan base like for the sport, coach relationship and one the recruit feels can actually improve your talent base for the NBA , and cash which now is provided through NIL

Florida thanks to Billy Donovan's success had most of those characteristics. Georgia is not a basketball school.

IU on the other hand has all of those characteristics.
