  1. One games results matter little to recruits. More pressing issues such as:

    - how will coaches develop me and scheme

    - what’s the culture of the team

I have full confidence in development and scheme from our defense with Allen/Warren. I cannot say the same confidence in our offense. with that being said, Curry has excellent suitors for his services. Hope we can land him!

#2.. what do you want to see? Specifics. I think the run game early on looked better... then we had to go one dimensional. If you can't block, you can't block.

Everything else, I 100% agree with you. The 3 transfer DL were clearly good pickups.

Stretch the field! The second pick six and the multiple others that bopped off the defenders hands were particularly on routes less than 10 yards. Their DBs were sitting on routes all day daring us to go over the top.

you are exactly right—if you go deep, you have to block it.

The other disappointing aspect was calling many repeated play: mesh route (drags) on 3rd downs, TE bubble route. There’s just very little innovation in the play calling which drove me nuts with DeBoard (who Sheridan learned under). On the other hand, DeBorer was fantastic with play design and his Fresno State team gave Oregon run for their money today.

  3. Couple thoughts

    1. Having played the game through college we were always told, “it’s not as good as you think, not as bad as you thing, it’s usually in between.” Tough to watch but I’ll try not to overreact to one game.
    2. I have concern about offensive play calling. Sheridan came from Mike DeBoard coaching tree. Similar to much of last year I didn’t see innovation on offense. The calls were conservative and predictable.
    3. Encouraging to see Anderson and Handy make plays on D. Gotta find ways to get more pressure by front 4.
    4. When Penix misses, his footwork is to blame. Getting better OL play would help, although he tends to be lazy at times with his feet.

Next week will be a cupcake. Time to get right in preparation for Cincinnati.

  4. Rankings for 2023 seem like a cluster in general. I mean there was no grassroots last year. National guys can’t make trip to see all high school games. I’d expect the accuracy of the rankings to change drastically over the next year solely due to increased exposure rather than talent.

If you haven’t already do yourself a favor and watch some highlights from this kid... WOW! My favorite player from 2022 class right now!

Could you post some? He’s definitely coming into scene during this COVID time

Take a look at Indiana's top class of 2021 targets right now, in order of likelihood of a commitment.

Me when looking at Kaufman and Duncomb’s 3PT %. Man we could use a big man spreading the floor.

    Kaufman: Junior stats:  25.8 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.6 bpg, 1.1 spg, 64% FG, 40% 3FG, 75% FT

    Duncomb: Junior stats:  13.8 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 1.6 bpg, 69.9% FG, 42.9% 3FG, 67.3% FT

  7. love this response! Archie-type player! From Inside the Hall Interview with Geronimo:

what should Indiana fans expect out of you? What are you hoping to bring to the program?

“A whole lot of energy on the defensive and offensive end. First and foremost, I’m a defensive player. I love shutting people down. I love blocking shots, getting steals and doing other stuff to get a stop on the possession. People best believe in a game I will bring the defensive energy. My opponents will know I’m on the floor.”

I think more than anything, it emphasizes how strong the 2021 class in Indiana is.  This is a team that does not even have Lander and Furst, who are both playing up a class, nor does it have Pierce Thomas, who I'm assuming is not playing AAU because it's still track season in Indiana.  He's the #3 seed in the upcoming state meet in the Long Jump with a qualifying jump of  23.07.25.

No doubt they are a very talented group. And I look forward to some of the 2021 group staying home and playing for the Hoosiers. The effort in some of those highlights was pathetic.
