  1. To be fair, college players play 35-40 games a year (if they are on good teams) vs 82 + playoffs for professionals. Then you add the travel, 48 min games vs 40 min college games, and rest is absolutely needed in many cases.
  2. Each Head Coach has his preferences and philosophies when it comes to recruiting and roster management, but it seems extremely short-sighted and silly to make absolute declarative statements like this (or any for that matter). Too many variables, too many shifts and evolving situations. Why paint yourself in a corner and have to explain it all later? Objectively, it just seems like a big waste to time and energy.
  3. It's pretty awesome to be included - and seriously considered - with these other football programs. I absolutely love the momentum and positive buzz that's coming from the program.
  4. Geronimo seems to be our most athletic player. Still somewhat raw, but if he sticks around I can see him putting the pieces together to be a really interesting prospect.
  5. Yes. It shows incredible character and integrity. He's allowing his son(s) to do what's best for them, not necessarily what's best for his own career.
  6. I'll help. He wants to coach in the NBA. To turn down that money means he's pretty serious about his intentions. I don't think you can knock someone else choosing what they think is right for themselves. Clearly the money wasn't the motivating factor. The challenge of winning in the League is.
  7. I want to see IU in a regular Madison Square Garden primetime marquee matchup. Big Lights, Big City, Big Game.
  8. One thing about Hunter that I noticed in my (admittedly) limited viewing of games last year: he has a little bit of 'dawg' in him, which I love. He had moments where he would get into people's faces and protect his teammates. I want more of that. Being comfortable will bring confidence, and I think that's where Hunter has been lacking. He's a bit streaky, and CAM's irregular and self-inflicting substitution patterns did nothing to help Jerome get into a rhythm and play with a cockiness that probably benefits him more than any other player on the roster.
  9. I get the want/need to compare players against one another, but I'm seeing a tendency to cannibalize our returning players to justify the new additions. There's a reason there are 13 scholarship openings; that's the benefit of having a variety of different players with unique skillsets. We have a full roster and in my eyes, I'm happy with that. I don't want, nor do feel it necessary, to speculate on who is "feeling the squeeze" and could leave. Until a player announces otherwise, they are Hoosiers and I'm going to support them and hope they work their a**es off to make this program great again.
  10. I haven't had the privilege of meeting Coach Woodson, but from all accounts he is a genuine, straight shooter. When he talked with the players returning, it seems very plausible that he spoke honestly with them about their roles and his intentions regarding filling in the roster. My hope is that he has instilled a desire in everyone to compete for minutes based on merit and hard work. Playing time is, and will be, an opportunity all players can seize through practice/competition.
  11. I really feel like the overall confidence in the team is rising by the minute. The players seem genuinely excited and they will be given green lights until they prove that they don't deserve it. Kopp might not be the best defender, rebounder or passer, but fortunately, we have other players who excel in those departments. Maybe he doesn't need to be. He can focus on what he's good at. I'm most excited about the general spacing that Coach Woodson is bringing in. He's going to have a system that allows the space for shooters to shoot, rebounders to rebound, and passing lanes for our quick guards to penetrate and dish. If feels like there is balance again.
  12. This is great. The competition for minutes in the backcourt will be intense, which is never a bad thing.
  13. Well that quote certainly didn't come from Mike Woodson and his staff. 😎
  14. Dane was that guy. He was Mr. Defense. And his senior year he was able to really blossom offensively. I'm sure Fife sees a lot of himself in Rob Phinisee.
  15. I'm genuinely excited to see what Coach Woodson and Co. uncover with the team. Meaning, what aspects of the players' games were being uncultivated and neglected?? I think we can all agree that the previous head coach didn't maximize or develop the talent on his roster in an adequate way. Of course its naive to think every single player will completely blossom into the absolute best version of themselves in CMW's first season, but I am very intrigued by what "unknown/unloved" skills our players have that will be given the light and soil to grow.
  16. I'm sure some of this is tongue in cheek... That said, I think we have some decent shooters (and potentially good ones too). They just need to be coached properly and relentlessly. During one of our many losses at the end of the year, I recall Coach Miller stating how he would have his team/staff focus on shooting, and all I could think of while reading that quote was "..........Now?!?!?!??!??!?!?!" So happy to hear CMW address that specifically in his welcome presser.
  17. Thanks for doing the 'research'. It seems like he's qualified to be a 3rd assistant and provide some meaningful insights to potential recruits. Question for all of you who are far more connected/in-tune with the duties and operations of a staff: how would Coach Ya fit in terms of Xs and Os? How does the entire staff divide duties? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each member, and do we feel like all of our "bases" are covered?
  18. It would be nice to have a shot-blocker, but I'm a Race fan. Would love to see him return. Armaan too.
  19. Sure. The reality might not catch up to the expectations or goals just yet, but I firmly believe a championship mindset should be established right from the jump. I don't think that should be something you ease into.
  20. I would rather have expectations extremely high and the team/staff reaching for them, than lower expectations that are met.
  21. Outside opinion here, but I don't believe the pull home would have been as strong if he were wanted. I'm sure he didn't feel valued. I think he's got great potential and I hope CMW works his magic to keep him, because he wants to utilize his skillset.
  22. ...what... what is... what is this feeling I'm having? Is it... joy?? Excitement? I've been so numb, so apathetic for so long. This is all new and tingly and weird.
