I haven't dialed in yet because of focus on hoops but here's where I'm at with Coach Cignetti. If he needs to send kids packing or whatever you want to call it so be it. I mean no disrespect to CTA and his time but if CC needs to ship dead wood so be it.

In the portal/NIL era, you absolutely have to have some tough conversations with some players.

  2. The 13th scholarship is not the same issue year over year.  This year after Goode and a big man sign, it wont be critical.  That’s because the roster fits together.

Last year, the offseason was an unmitigated disaster.  The missing player wasn’t the 13th man.  It was a significant player in the rotation that they didn’t fill.

It is two different things.  If you’re good with 12 this year no one should have any confusion whatsoever that that would excuse what happened with last season’s roster.  They bombed on it and all you can do with that is try to improve on your decision making.  But that’s the thing with sports.  The record sticks.  The good news is that the next year is a fresh start.

Bag men like him are going to go the way of the dodo. Who needs a guy with under the table connections when you can pay guys above board?

Tom Crean was just talking about that on Hoosier Hysterics.  Your assistants should be geared toward player development.

My two cents but I would add strategy and scheme.   No need to waste time on assistants who are there to “recruit.”   That should be handled in the player personnel (GM) office.   IMO that’s how it should be divided up.

Yeah i understand your concern but I can also see a scenario where Leal and Cupps just don’t play much either and Newton probably either. We really only have two wings though but he might just take a back up 4 and back up 5 and be done or try getting someone to redshirt for the 13th spot

Yeah if you are a good player a few of those guys are of no concern to you.

  5. Based on position, you’d think it would be Anderson OR Humrichous. I am perfectly fine with Leland Walker even if we get Carlyle. Kid seems to want to be here and he looks like a bulldog out there.  I don’t know if there is a 6’4 ish guard with range out there if Essegian isn’t happening.  Malone at backup C.

Tucker, Ballo, Rice, Carlyle, Malone, Walker, Humrichous/Anderson would be phenomenal.

  6. I like Reneau in the post on offense but his defense and rebounding wouldn’t be good enough, as of now at least.   He can also improve his passing.

Ballo from what I saw (not a ton, mind you) can come out and hunt screens.  That might be a clever way to give Reneau space inside.
But on D he can be essential.

I love seeing how trends in uniforms come and go.  When I was in high school, a uniform that tight, shorts that high and socks that long would have been laughed off the court.

I'm waiting for one company/designer to take the big leap and actually have shorts with a belt as a "throwback" 😂

That said....I like that one.  The stripes on the side...very nice.

You would have enjoyed the short shorts we wore in the 1980s.  🤦‍♂️

  8. I had been a backer of hers but mainly because the last president was incompetent.  However, and I don’t have any dogs in these fights, I do know enough about large business and leadership to know that this isn’t good leadership.  Good leadership  can find compromise and creative solutions to resolve competing interests particularly in a university where exchange of thought is critical.  This will bear watching but I wouldn’t call this a ringing endorsement of her ability.  We will see if she recovers.

  9. Regarding Indiana State, I posted this a couple of months ago, but I think they probably would have finished third in the B1G.  Granted, it was a pathetic league this year, but after Purdue and Illinois, I think they were better.  They got totally screwed by big school bias in the tourney.  The proof is basically that all their starters are switching out to big schools. So, by definition, they had big school talent.  Kent and Larry moved to Texas.  Duke and a host of other big schools mentioned with Avila.  We know about Conwell.  Etc.
