I'm not so sure Grace won't be the point guard. It seems like we had some young girls that played in the European league this summer, and they did extremely well.

The answer to your last question would be content and if they can do that schematically with the website.

Thanks for responding. If I knew how to direct message we could talk ladies basketball.

I had wondered about Grace as PG and did not realize she had that skill set. Yardon apparently does but Moren’s track record does not play frosh. I wonder what Bargesser brings? Track and bball star but could only do track as a senior due to blown knee. For some reason, no data, I am not confident about Hanna from Finland.

  2. We look strong again this year. Somewhere between top ten and final four. We need Scalia to shoot threes like she has. Mac to be Mac and Grace to be Grace.

    Questions:

    1. Grace stayed to develop a three point shot. Success?

    2. Who will be the point guard?

    3. We need a strong big from the bench. Improved KB? Zaric step up? Meister as a frosh?

And finally, a big question, why do the mods not provide an IUWBB forum that can be accessed with one click?

  3. We open Wednesday.

Personally, to be elite, I think we need Zaric to be able to play scoring minutes. I remain worried we need one more big.
It will be interesting to see how Grace B’s game has improved after her international experience last summer.

How much better can Mac be?

Finally, can the folks that run the forum give the girls their own forum? If you can, thanks.

  4. Our guards are good with Nicole, Ali, and Grace B. We have Grace W. as back up and she plays great defense. Then the sophomore Chloe McNeil so we are 5 deep and still have a senior guard and the freshmen.

My concern is the big positions. holmes, Aleske, and Browne give us 3 ( but they go 6’3”, 6’3”, and 6’2”. Ariel is 6’5” but rarely plays. I think she contributes more in practice.

We have a 6’2” freshman from Europe but only 6’2” and a freshman so her contribution remains unknown.
Time will tell but some of the elite teams have that 6’5” plus center that scores and/or blocks.

I love their games and wish more were available on tv.

You may be right, Scott.  Fickell, in the past, has said how much he and his family like Cincinnati.  So who knows.  He may value his family over a move...especially to LA.

Good point. I was in LA 30 years ago for a job interview and 5 years ago. Horrible place. Unless you like traffic smog and crowds

From Wednesday Cincinnati Enquirer... Fickell quote..."Look, I don't talk to anybody.  I barely talk to my own family during the season.  So I wouldn't ever talk about it, nor would I even answer a phone call or anything like that.  I know nothing, nor does it make me have any interest."   Classic coach response.    😁

He may be telling the truth. Even if not, the best dishonest response is Saban. Said no at msu and went to LSu. Said no and went to Dolphins.

Me too. Several comments had no conclusion other than Miller was a bad coach.

    I really phrased this poorly.

What I was trying to say, was that several comments he made (and I do not think he meant this intentionally) about the team needing to be better - defense, conditioning, communication- mad me think that Miller was a really bad coach. Even worse then his personality and record would suggest.

That caught my attention as well.

Also, he discussed how last year they were a bad offensive team and regularly did not get the ball where it needed to go.

Not surprising, but pretty candid assessment of previous coaching.

Me too. Several comments had no conclusion other than Miller was a bad coach.

Correct, but it does show how quickly things are changing again. Just a couple weeks ago, it was if you're vaccinated you can go anywhere and do anything.

That was what I thought as well. If the trip is cancelled it bodes poorly for a normal season.

The more that I think about it the less I could see West Coast teams playing any other day then Saturday. The point is to bring in as many viewers as possible. If you hold a game at 8pm WCT then well no one can stay up and watch it back East. You can't start the game at noon and have no fans on a week day. So Saturday it is. As for interferring with HS football it's kind of meh to me. I played at a super small independent league high school. We had to travel all over the state and sometimes into Illinois to find other small schools to play. A majority of our games were on Saturday to accomodate travel. I don't see a problem with playing Saturday games nor another weekday like Wed or Thursday but I don't think that is going to come into play anyways. All sports are competing with outside influences. Not sure a college game would matter much. Just schedule around it I suppose if it did on occassion.

I don't even think it is unwritten. Didn't congress pass anti-trust bill to keep NFL from playing on Friday and Saturdays back in the day?

I did not remember that. Thanks.

I'll have to dive more into him later but the little I know of him sounds like they have a guy who is used to going against the grain a tad....and he obviously wants to change the Pac's TV deal.

I've long thought the Pac should have Friday night football presented by Apple or Amazon or Google or Nike or whatever large corporation calls the west coast home. Huge window on Friday night's for them to capture market share for their conference.

The old unwritten rule was college would leave Friday to the high schools and Sunday to the pros.

To me it now looks like all bets are off.

ND has a separate football contract with tv. They do not have to share that revenue with the rest of the conference that their other sports are in.

I wonder if (or how soon) Ohio state or Alabama signs their own contract and opts out of their respective conferences.

  12. Paige has turned pro and I wondered what we would do to replace her.

Caitlin Hose joins us as a grad transfer from Georgia.

Confusing to me - she is a 5’10” G who started only 13 games in 3 years in the SEC.

I would have felt we needed a big. Time will tell and obviously the coaches know more than I. Just fun to be the pretend GM.

  13. America wins gold going 6-0.

Grace averages 6 points and 3 1/2 rebounds per game. Im sure a great experience for life and for basketball.

I have not seen anything about what the ladies are up to for the summer. In Btown training, summer school, AAU ball somewhere else, etc.

Looking forward to football and then basketball.

Btw, we have several swimmers that are headed to the olympics!

  14. America is 3-0 with the championship game set for this Saturday, June 19. Grace is coming of the bench and contributing points, assists, and steals.

Unfortunately Paige has decided to leave Iu and return to Australia where she is going pro. We now have a scholarship open. I have not heard any rumors about a replacement. I think we are the most shallow at the 4 and 5 spots.

She ought to learn something from Staley.

Yes, and the continued play against top notch talent.

Paige is on one of the Australia teams. She is 6’2” and tho listed as a guard we are more short front court guys. The transfer of Jorie Allen and Patterson did not help.

I am really hopeful for a year two jump from Chloe McNeil (spelling? too lazy to look up. Never could spell). I do not know if any of our freshman will help in year one.

We need a big stepup in 3 point shot percentage.

  16. Paige Price just named to the Australian under 19 FIBA roster. Practice starts June 25 and runs thru June 28. They will likely cut down to perhaps 12 but I do not know that.

Australia (and hopefully Paige) will then will play in Hungry August 7-15.

I think the dates are correct, but the only article I have seen was a bit confusing.

Grace Berger starts practice today on the USA team. They have 20 invitees and again I am guessing at the final squad size of say 12 to 15.

  17. Hi all, more news.

Teri Moren has been named “court coach” of the U19 girls team for the world cup 2021.

I am not sure what “court coach” means exactly but it sounds like game coach. The person who develops the game plan for each opponent, determines starter and substitution patterns, in game adjustments, etc?

Knight once said he wanted to be remembered as being a coach who was worth 2-3 points on the bench.

In any event, a nice thing to add to your resume and should help with recruiting and program stature.

    Congrats to Teri Moren.
