That’s actually not true. MM projects to be really good next year regardless of if he is at the 3 or 4. He’s one of the best FR in the B1G. That said the team would likely be better if he’s at the 4. The problem with that is Reneau. Not MM. Reneau wants to be the 4 last I heard.

Offensively, yes he has shown a lot of promise. Defensively he is still a mess (though less so than at the start of the year). His lack of awareness and lateral quickness kill him guarding wings, but he has the size and frame to be competent guarding college 4s.

I look at Mgbako and see Christian Watford. I hope Woodson does too.

Yeah, as much as I think IU needs a change, if things fall right this is also really fixable. If Woodson can convince the right guys to come back and he has a pretty solid track record of getting guys to return/not transfer. But, he's going to have to change how he recruits and the style of play.

McNeely, while obviously a great shooter, is more athletic and explosive than MM. Get McNeely at the 3, MM at the 4 and Reneau at the 5. Galloway back. Then go hit the transfer portal hard for veteran guards and wings that are smart, tough and can create and/or make shots.

Problem is, it could just as easily go other way where we lose almost all of those guys and it's basically a rebuild.

I have mixed feelings on that potential lineup. I agree that those guys could form an elite offensive unit, with the right PG. And Trey at the 2 works fine if he's surrounded by plus shooters.

But defensively and on the glass, that unit will get lit up unless there are significant jumps from Reneau and Mgbako on that end. At least it would be more enjoyable to watch than this year's brand of basketball.

Crean had fallen out of favor with much of the high school coaching fraternity and local AAU brass. He was throwing wild offers out to players who had no business playing in the B10, let alone Indiana. His in-game adjustments were horrible and he never adjusted. He did land a fair share of high impact recruits and he could really develop some kids. His offense for the most part was fun to watch. But in the end I think his tenure had run its course and he showed his true colors at Georgia. Nice guy though, definitely better than anything we've seen the last 6-7 seasons but he should not be the barometer of success here.

I agreed with the decision to let Crean go, not trying to re-litigate that.

My point is Crean's results were pretty good, just not good enough for an elite program. IU still saw itself as an elite program then. I'm not sure we (or anyone else) sees us that way anymore.

Hard to think about we are 2 coaches removed from Crean and we are worse today than we were with him. SAD.

For sure we are a worse program today. Crean got fired because IU saw itself as an elite program with elite standards. Three Sweet 16s wasn't considered good enough without deeper runs, and with a couple of bad years mixed in.

Now that we've seen how bad it can really get, I think our standards are lower. If a new coach comes in and matches Crean's resume (minus the first 2-3 years) - does he get fired? I doubt it.

I dont see JG playing any 3. Maybe he has that skill set like OG and we didn't see it yet.

Agree, I think Geronimo is a prototypical college 4, and I am extremely high on his potential there. I expect TJD/Race/Geronimo to eat up the vast majority of the post minutes on this team.

Kopp on the other hand I see as a 3, who can give you spot minutes at the 4 in certain lineups. I saw Hunter the same way honestly.

Meh, don't play that PC bs with me.  The kid got a chance, that is a helluva lot more than most in the same situation.  I ain't gonna cry over someone winning the lottery only to piss it away.

The kid f'ed up.  Pure and simple.    What the hell was he doing with 3 1/2 pounds of it?  Bad upbringing?  Just a casual user?   What would this board's reaction be if say TJD got caught with that amount?

PC? What are you talking about? He committed a crime and now will serve his punishment, that's fair.

I'm curious, did you read the article? Caleb's story is being born into absolute shit, getting an opportunity and working his tail off to pull himself out of that situation, and now relapsing. Ha ha, I guess? Do you laugh when alcoholics relapse too?

Well...hopefully he provides someone to push Trayce in practice and can give us 5-10 minutes a game against Purdue and other bigs. I don't anticipate a huge roll but that's ok...not all 13 are going to start. Does this mean we can redshirt Duncomb?? Kinda wondering what his role might be now.

Yea, hard to see a significant role for both Durr and Duncomb. Would be great if a talented kid like Duncomb is open to redshirt.
