Would be huge get…backcourt would be set next couple years pairing him Bates, Lander and company. Can’t remember us ever having three possible 5* caliber guards on the roster together. Stacking talent…that’s how you get back to competing for conference titles.

Add a Fears in '23. We would be looking at success in the backcourt for a while!

Booo!!!!   Honestly he really doesn't fit their typical PG. Like anything Cal can change up his style but he typically goes for longer/elite athlete point guards (6'3-6'5 range) over the smaller/quick guys. Overall measurables seem to trump a lot of things with his recruits (wingspan etc)...so I would be surprised if he made a big push for the young man.

UK has a 5'6 PG on their roster right now.

  3. This is one kid that I really really hope shows marked improvement this season. Like his toughness. IU is a dream school for him. I'm sure CAM has told him that we will be in contact with him and watching. Gives us plenty of time to get in on some really good PG'S and see what we can hook. Especially if Lander has an excellent FR season. If not, a player like Smith could fit right in.

I’d rather have both. Thornton is more day 1 ready as far as body and skill but Smith could give us valuable minutes even as a freshman. I do not want to be in that situation where we only have one primary ball handler on the roster ever again. It’s been so frustrating watching us when Rob leaves the floor...I don’t ever want to go back to that. I sense there is definitely room for two pgs on this roster and with Lander and Rob both gone by 22...absolutely needed. Could even see Smith red shirt to continue to give him time to mature physically and space out the two.

Sorry, I just don't fathom Lander as only a 2yr player.

So if Leal would happen to come in and go absolutely bonkers his freshman year, which would be completely unexpected by everyone, and he chose to enter the draft, would that be held against him in your eyes?  He wouldn't have intended to be a OAD.  Should he pass up millions because he doesnt want people to feel like he was using IU as a 9 month internship?

I know you are speaking more of the Duke/UK type, just playing devils advocate a lil bit.

More believable if you used TDJ!

    A) Kid gets it.
    B) Thank you Romeo.

Great interview. Being from New Albany and with knowledge of how much a fine young man Romeo is, it doesn't surprise me of his love for IU and the staff. I get soooo tired of all of the negative impressions by many on here about his season and so-called lack of effort put forth. This kid has spent alot of time since the draft back at IU when he had no reason to after the bad mouthing. It sounds as though his interactions with Geronimo helped secure this commitment. Thanks kid!

I think he's very underrated. Saw him play some of the best teams in Indy area last year or two and he was putting up 20/30 games from all areas on court routinely. To me he fits the same mold as guys like Leal, Galloway,etc.....very good 3-4 year players.

Agreed. I love the idea of building the program by getting older. The problem is that alot of our fanbase expectations are the contrary.

Maybe RMK coming back might be what is needed for this program to turn the page.  I don't really believe in curses but it seems like after we fired RMK pretty much everything after that has bee  disaster.

Though scientifically unfounded, I tend to lend credence to superstition. I will definitely say I believe in this 99.999%!
