I think we can appreciate Victor just fine w/o so much PG hate.  I may be in the minority, but some of these posts I feel read like: "I reject your facts and reality and substitute my fantasy and opinion".

I think his attempts to screw the Pacers on his way out the door earned him a lot of the so called "hate" he has received. In hindsight, his leaving was the best thing he could have ever done for the Pacers

Not sure I agree with that. What medical conditions do you think marijuana has health benefits for that only a small subset of proponents suffer from?

Additionally, so what? It's a plant that we haven't little to no evidence causes actual harm. Smoking is one thing we can debate on but there are many other ways to consume marijuana that don't involve smoking it.

I don't really want to drag this out into a marijuana debate but in answer to your question, glaucoma and certain chemotherapy patients have pretty conclusive evidence of receiving medical benefits from consuming it. A few other conditions seem to have some benefit but the studies are hardly conclusive yet. All in all, very small numbers compared to those that simply want to get high.

IMO, there is more than enough evidence that consuming marijuana can cause plenty harm, unfortunately that harm is very hard to track and quantify scientifically as it is almost entirely the result of secondary effects.

So what you have is an inconclusive study about marijuana smoke and no mention of the health benefits marijuana provides. One factor I did not see when i skimmed through that was any mention of the amount of puffs one takes of marijuana versus a cigarette. I saw it mention take deeper inhales, which is true, but you're only taking a few at a time.

Marijuana has health benefits for a relatively small set of medical conditions, medical conditions I dare say most of the proponents of marijuana don't actually suffer from.

Darren Rovell tweeted that $600K to Cuban is like $28 to the average American based on net worth, lol.

I seem to recall that he spent a similar amount on champagne and a large tip at a high end bar after the Mavs won their last championship.

Not interested in Troy in Indiana. Pacers have a good thing going and I don't think Troy fits the mold of the roster.

I don't know, the Pacers could use some more athleticism in the second unit, especially someone capable of attacking the basket. Seems like a rather low risk, potentially high reward situation.

Hammons I was never sold on. I started a thread on another site discussing only Hammons or Painter could keep him around for 4 years...i.e. lack of development,etc... Many of the fans up north took offense. As of this email I'll stand by what I said. Painter doesn't develop bigs.

Swanigan is a different story. Not sure why he's on extended trip to G league. Especially as a first rounder.

Hammons always struck me as lazy and disinterested. Such a waste of size and physical ability.

  7. To get this thread back on track: PG is busy doing PG things and many Pacers fans are even more happy about the trade.... Oh wait, I mean Vic had a less than stellar shooting night but finished with 19 in a loss to the Rockets. Eric Gordon also had a rather lackluster shooting night and finished with 10 for the Rockets.

I'm seeing both sides of this having been on the "Vic" side of the debate.  I've felt almost ridiculed for suggesting that Vic is every bit the player Paul George is (this season and perhaps going forward).  I understand the historical statistics, but I also understand trajectory, attitude and organizational fit.  I've almost heard the laughter and scoffing while reading some posts here opinion that Vic is not possibly in the same plateau as PG even as the statistics continue to bear out the opinion that he's caught George, who is likely on the back side of the apex of his talent.  I've tried to keep my comments on the level and non-confrontational, but I've seen posts on both sides of the issue that appeared to belittle opposing views and IMO, Scott may be reacting to that vibe...or maybe he's just having a bad week.  Probably nothing that a big win in Bloomington tonight can't cure.:coffee:

I agree and thought about posting something similar earlier. I haven't read the entirety of the last several pages as I have lost interest in the endless PG discussion and instead only skim it for discussion of Vic and other former IU players but from what I saw and IMO, Scott received snark prior to responding with snark. That doesn't excuse a snarky response but IMO again, it does go toward the reasons for it.

I'm not selling anything.  Vic is a former IU player.  The Pacers are the 'home' team for a large percentage of the posters on this board.  It only stands to reason that we continue to analyze the trade that brought him home.

I heard today that ratings for Pacers games are up 15% from last year so far. I'm not surprised and I expect the ratings difference to increase as more people realize how entertaining this Pacers team is with the addition of Vic and Sabonis.

I have watched more games this year than the last 2 combined.  If PG leaves after this year I feel OKC got SCREWED in this deal.

I couldn't agree more with the first sentence, I actually find myself seeking out Pacer's games to watch this year instead of just watching a few games when I stumble on one. As for the second part, there is no way PG is staying in OKC to play third fiddle to Russ and Carmelo past this year, IMO.

I don't think that's true, and it is contrary to what PG and various players were saying before Bird gutted the Pacers. After Bird traded away everyone, literally everyone PG played with, and the team around him was mediocre at best, then yes, it became clear he was leaving. Don't forget how good that Pacers team was with Hill, West, Hibbert, Granger et al. The downfall began when Bird meaninglessly traded Granger mid-season - when the Pacers had the best record in the League -- for EvanTurner, who couldn't play D against my grandmother and was a terrible fit. Granger was PG's mentor, Bird did the move without even talking to PG or any other player about it, and it pissed PG off, as he has recently confirmed. Bird then went on to belittle Hibbert publicly, for no reason whatsoever, forcing him out and in publicly dissing him making sure that P's got nothing in return, and pissing off West to the point that West left for San Antonio for a $1M deal, leaving something like $10M on the table. West also publicly expressed disgust with the way Bird treated HIbbert. Then Bird trades away, among others, G Hill -- PG's best friend on the team not to mention an outstanding defender and a very good 3-point corner shooter, for Teague -- clearly a failed experiment, after Atlanta wanted Teague gone, and Teague and PG did not gel at all, while Teague pounded the air out of the ball. Meanwhile Bird had brought in Andrew Bynum, and then Monta Ellis. Brilliant moves.

It's so easy to target PG's attitude. What would his attitude have been if Bird wasn't deconstructing the Conf Finals team and pissing off and trading everyone around PG? Bird destroyed the team, and then ran out the door knowing PG was going to leave. Blame belongs squarely with Bird.

PG has said a lot of things but most of what he said did not fit his actions on or off the court. That great Pacers team that Bird blew up was never going to be better than 2nd in the East to Lebron's teams. Bird realizing this and the way the NBA was trending toward small ball, tried to do something about it , though it didn't work out. Hibbert and PG are perfect representatives of that team, both physically gifted, both talented (though PG clearly more so) and both mentally soft and weak. When faced with adversity they chose to pout and whine instead of digging deeper and working harder. Hibbert's soft play and lack of effort on far too many nights should have earned him being called out long before then. The worst part about it is that Hibbert had the tools and could really bring it when he wanted to, he just didn't want to most of the time. Being the competitor Bird is, I'm surprised he tolerated that crap for as long as he did. The house cleaning was long overdue IMO and trading PG was a big, important part of it.  As Turner's recent comments suggest, Instead of buying in and providing leadership to the young talent being built around him, PG decides to sulk on the court and in the locker room and sabotage his own trade value. Luckily the Thunder were dumb enough to trade for him anyway.

I can't say at this point. PG made clear he wants to go "home" to pay for the Lakers. After the way Bird flubbed everyone and ruined the Pacers, I frankly cannot and do not blame PG for leaving, at all. No other franchise (well, maybe Sacramento....) would be so ridiculously stupid in the way they treat their franchise player. Bird is a self-centered, stubborn fool. Now if the Thunder end up excelling (after some gel time) and do well, I think PG could well stay with the Thunder -- he wants to win. As to what the Pacers got, I love Vic, probably my favorite Hoosier ever, but he's clearly not on PG's level, he's not a franchise player, and we're 3 games into an 82 game season. I hope he excels, I'm rooting for him, and I hope he works out for the Pacers, but the Pacers have more building to do.

PG was never, ever going to stay with the Pacer's long term. He always had one foot out the door. Frankly, the Pacer's are better off long term without him. As the Thunder and likely the Lakers eventually will find out, PG is fools gold. All the talent in the world but not nearly enough heart and way too much self absorption.
