The Reds were always going to trade Gray and wanted to open a rotation spot for Greene or Lodolo. They got a prospect that has the potential to be special. Yes, heās a prospect but itās what the Reds have to do if the want to be able to compete consistently. Itās the same thing the Rays do year in and year out.Ā

Itās only a month before because of the lockout. This wouldāve been done in January if not for the lockout. The Rays trade players on expiring contracts for prospects to develop in their farm system. Itās the way theyāve been able to stay relevant and Gray only had this year left on his deal. He also wasnāt nearly as good last year and was inconsistent. Then Sanmartin, Greene, Lodolo, Ashcraft, Oā Brien, Marinan, and Santillan will compete for the last 2 spots. They could still add a veteran to compete as well. Iād guess they are Greene and Lodoloās spots to lose.

IU Scott
I get if you want to rebuild but if you are trading all star caliber players you should get more in return.Ā I am tired of seeing other teams trading really good players for at least top prospects. The Reds got nothing for guys like Cueto and Chapman and it appears with these trades it looks the same.Ā What is bad if they had the new playoff format lady year the Refs would have made the syoffs.Ā So what do the Refs do they have traded Winker, Suarez, Gray and Barnhart.Ā They let go Miley and not making any attempt to resign Castellan's.
