Eastern Illinois Postgame Thread

It is comical how many people in the game thread were jumping off cliffs (and wanting to take Woodson with them) when the game was tight, but those same people just disappeared as we got control and blew out the opponent. I think some folks are only happy when they have something to bitch about.

You think the posters on here are bad, well let me introduce you to a couple of my ex-wives.

I haven't read the game thread. Some of you were #Daunted, weren't you? It's okay to admit it. I'd guess the team started out hungover from the Michigan football game yesterday. 😄

The game is over and we STILL can't get a win probability of 100%.  We suck!!!! :panic:

The frustrating part of it all is that we are capable of playing the way we did in the 2nd half the entire game. There shouldn’t be any need for urgency. They should be ready to drill the 333rd ranked team in D1 from the tip! But yes, great 2nd half.

Didn’t watch, not supporting the NIL, but I really have to wonder?? What exactly are you looking for? I mean a team full of new players shouldn’t look like a team of new players at this point???

A few random thoughts 2 games in, while completely understanding that it's incredibly early and guys will improve and get comfortable.

- Whether he starts or not, Galloway should play 30'ish minutes per game. He's one of our most valuable players. He also needs more minutes with both or at least one of Rice and Carlyle.

- The pace is SO much better when Galloway is in, and I'd love to see how the pace is with both Galloway and Rice in extended minutes.

- Need more minutes with Ballo and Reneau not on the court together. Limiting Hatton's minutes should help with that.

- I still don't like our offense. It's still way too big-centric IMO, and not much different. You need good bigs of course, but college is still a guards game, and there's a reason Rice and Carlyle aren't comfortable.

- Tucker reminds me of a more skilled, slightly less athletic Troy Williams. Don't love him bringing the ball up, as he needs to be on the receiving end of offense.

I actually watched the second half on my phone so I didn't post in the thread since I use my phone to post here.

You think we get the same end result starting that way against any power 5 teams? Doubtful. Game will be over quickly. The first half was unacceptable. Same problems continue to persist. Yippee, we beat one of the worst teams in college basketball! You act like that first half was an anomaly, and the fact it isn’t is the problem.

Nice win! Discuss

I loved how we were able to do some mix and matching, placed defensive positions and effort level into certain situations, turned the ball over and teach how not closing out allows the other team to score.

These type of lesson MUST be taught so that the players know what NOT to do. Woody nailed that in the first half. If you don't teach the bad lessons, the good lesson don't really have anything to measure against. THAT, is coaching right there !

It's the time of year to try things. We'll see how things go. We have talent and it's the coaches job to figure out how to make the pieces fit. I know their young guys, but a noon game after a big football win, yeah, I might be a little sluggish to start.

It sure seems that way.

Building off of this.

Are there any Engineers here? Does anyone know what a DOE (Design of Experiment) is? Well if you are into analytics, to find the most statistically relevant outcome of a set of variables, you have to test the variables as well as the assumed known's. Only with that observed and studied data, will you be able to statistically predict the optimum outcome and what variables produce that optimum outcome.

CAll me Null Hypotheses or P Value if you want.

NOW.. CMW... Get this shit over with and crunch the data!

They won a game easily in the second half that they should have won easily. That's great. Illinois, who was picked behind IU, returned zero starters (Ty Rodgers is redshirting) from last season and has so far played better than IU against the same two opponents. That's all we really know so far. It's very early, but new players needing to gel isn't relevant because that's true almost everywhere.

IU 80 SIUE 61. Halftime 42-30

ILL 90 SIUE 58 Halftime 46-28

IU 90 EI 55 Halftime 36-37

ILL 112 EI 67 Halftime 50-35
