Sam Houston State Pre-Game Thread

Second year coach Chris Mudge (24-16 overall) brings his Sam Houston Bearkats (3-4) into SSAH for a meeting with our Hoosiers. Sam Houston has wins over Tarleton State (Kenpom #314), Lamar (291), Trinity (D3), while losing to Steve Alford's Nevada squad (#36), Baylor (#22), Appalachian State (#137), and UNC Wilmington (#196). They have a game tonight versus #251 Colgate.

As you can see, they shoot the 3 ball pretty well, with Lamar Wilkerson, Cameron Huefner, and Dorian Finister (Kansas State transfer) all over 40%. Those 3 start along with Kalifa Sakho (Utah State transfer), and Brennan Burns. Marcus Boykin had started the first 6 games, but went out with an elbow injury versus Appalachian State and missed their last game. 

Another tune-up as we move toward the Big 10 season. Hopefully we'll employ some of the lessons learned from the Battle 4 Atlantis, and shore up our defense...

Sidenote: My neighbors are both Sam Houston grads, and my daughter was a professor there...Sorry folks...GO HOOSIERS!

Sam Houston beat Colgate in the Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic in Trask Coliseum (NC) 82-78. Shot 38% from 3 (16 attempts).

I'll be watching but it is hard to get excited for a game against Sam Houston St. Maybe the first or second game of the year to check the team out but at this stage we know what we have. Hopefully this team has had some good practices and comes out ready to play and gets a big win to start the uphill climb in the NET

All kidding aside, we have to move on from Woodson if we don't make it to at least the S16. I think this team will get better throughout the season. It can take time for pieces to mesh. That said - I think it is pretty clear at this point we need a fresh start with new leadership.

And I'd agree with that...we have way to much talent and depth to not get at least to the 2nd weekend

I thought that Bahamas crew was very good. They both seemed to know their stuff and made some insightful commentary about what was going on in the game. Most of it wasn’t talking highly of IU, but that’s what happens when you’re getting blown out.

Even as bad as we looked in the Bahamas, I’m an eternal optimist when it comes to Hoosiers basketball, but I have to admit right now I’m not excited about the season…too much fun going on with the football team.

Looking forward to a hard reset on the early part of the season. Have a stretch where we could rattle off 8-9 in a row or 8 of 9. Get the kids believing again over several games not just spurts within the game.
