Bryan Colangelo busted trashing 76ers players, the coach, Hinkie, and building himself up on burner accounts.

Sixers front office.

Spurs front office.

Rockets front office.

Warriors front office.

One of these things is not like the other.

The Sixers are on the East Coast and the other three front offices are not. Did I get it right?

Short of a death to a major star or terrorism attack to the sports world.....this will be the sports story of the year. It's mind boggling to think the paranoia sets in so much with some of these guys to not create 1 but 5 (allegedly) accounts to work against his players, organization,etc....

I haven't even wrapped my brain around how bad this is yet. Just when Philly thought they turned the corner.

It's bizarre. Maybe he should work for the Knicks.

I don’t believe I had heard the term “burner account.”

Quote

What is a “burner” account? It’s a second (or third, fourth, fifth, etc.) social media account you create that pretends to be another person but really is just you supporting and defending yourself so it looks like you’ve got allies. We’ve seen this in BSOTS comment sections — and all over the internet — for years. After easy investigation, a moderator can see that the multiple accounts are coming from the same IP address.

I think originated way back in the day for drug dealers. I’d heard of them back in the day when cell phones just went mainstream for everyone. You could go to RadioShack and buy a phone with say 100 minutes and just toss it in the trash after.

If the Suns really want to find something in the investigation, it wouldn’t take a computer forensics expert long to get to the bottom of this.

Is Colangelo going to suffer the same fate as Danny Ferry?  Ferry was the GM in Atlanta with that whole “Luol Deng acts like an African” fiasco.   I believe he was quoting someone else.  But, the point is, he hasn’t been heard from ever since.

I swear, the NBA is like a soap opera with all of its constant drama.  The NFL is going through more fundamental issues, but the NBA is a drama queen’s fantasy.

I'm not sure how he escapes this without becoming persona non grata.

Besides some of illegal activities....some guys thought they were being smart by buying burners so their side piece wouldn't call normal number. Unless CIA operative is your occupation...if you have a burner usually it means trouble.

Holy mother of twists!

What an awesome off-season story.

What a wild story. If he’s anything like his dad then I’m sure he’s a nice and guinine person. I met Jerry over a decade ago at the Bellagio playing in a $2-5 NL game. He was sitting next to me and I noticed his World Series ring. I asked him how he got that he and he told me owned the diamondbacks lol. We had good conversations for about 4 hours and he was a down to earth person and seemed like a good guy. Played tighter than almost everyone in the game! He must really love his money!

Would be tough to fire a man for his wife doing this...

Not at all. Billion dollar franchise and you risk it's value by this grade school behavior? Easy decision to me. Spouses are there to support. Whether the husband or wife is in the public eye....the other spouse understands the responsibility that goes with being the spouse of a public person. And in this case...Barbara has failed miserably. As has Colangelo.

From a PR standpoint, I agree, but I think they'll be on the hook for a lot of money if they fire him.

None at all. Pennsylvania is an at will state.

Now in terms of PR I'm sure they would be happy to negotiate a small settlement. Much like Wilson/IU who knew he was cooked....he'll take a smaller settlement and move on. Unless the 76ers are chartered somewhere else things could change....but I'd like to think a first year law student could poke enough holes in his contract (if it was necessary, which it is not) that showed he violated several privacy laws, health information,etc....

I'd love one of our attorney's to weigh in, but in my experience with employment issues/law (and I've had a few) At-Will just means they can fire you for no reason. I'm not sure you could get a judge to agree that is what happened; it's pretty clearly a response to this story if he gets fired. Further, I am not sure if it matters that PA is At-Will, he is going to have a contract and whatever is in the contract is going to overrule anything. I'd guess there is a buyout and I think they'll be on the hook for the entire thing.
