Slick seems like a major oversight considering his entire career including 3 ABA titles as a coach. PS Sorry I missed this thread. Right up my alley. I just saw it. I immediately thought of 3 Finger Brown and Chuck Klein but you guys had the puzzle done before I saw anything. Very fun read. I wonder which hometowns are most represented? Probably a bell curve based on population.4 points

It was awful! Wanted someone else to bring it up first. Giannis is the best player in the world right now and he's also a really likeable star, but with that said he is being officiated differently than any other player. What he's allowed to get away with is crazy.3 points

Scott my friend, first the Spurs (5 titles since 99, covering 15 years) then, following their model, the Dubs, 3 titles since 2015 (and may be on track for another right now) grew their franchises from within, drafting, development, and at times excellent trade work (the one i disliked, as the exception from a competitive standpoint, was Durant). Thatās 8 titles since 99, and both are outstanding franchises built right. And with that has come multiple incredible players including guys who will go down as among the best ever, Duncan, Curry, and with that outstanding coaching, Pop one of the best to ever grace the sidelines. there were many great teams of the 70s and 80s and guys like Bird, MJ, Magic are as amazing today as they were then, but there are great teams and franchises in todayās NBA and built from within. Side note, if you want to see a truly amazing player who isnāt yet in this discussion but iād bet on him getting there - Ja Morant - man he is just so much fun to watch, genuinely incredible, and the Dubs - Grizz series is a blast. Life goes on after the 70s!3 points

Roster management wasn't too hot either. I didn't follow his Georgia tenure closely enough to know, but I wonder if he had issues with over-signing, recruiting too many of the same type of player, or still recruiting high school seniors in May. All of that stuff led to the turnover and dysfunction we witnessed here.2 points

Sorry for the brief downtime - we moved hosts last month and I formally shut down the old host yesterday, but it had some lingering settings attached to it, so had to triage those this morning. All fixed, over to our new host, which has been much better for us so far!2 points

Here's a challenge for HSN. I am cleaning out the storage area in my basement. From 1984 through 2019 I subscribed to Sports Illustrated. Never threw an issue away until now (35 years-worth). I always thought it would be neat to go back and look through them. Of course, that's never happened. Anyway, I decided to start purging and only keep those issues with the greatest of the great on the cover: MJ, LBJ, Kobe, Tiger, Peyton, Brady, Ali, Gretzky, anything IU or Reds related, etc. I'm still working through that exercise, but ran across an issue from April of 2001 that listed the Top 50 Sports figures 'FROM' every state between 1900 and 2000. So, for Indiana, people like Mark Spitz and Isaih Thomas were not eligible because they were not 'FROM' Indiana. Likewise, people like Eric Gordon were not on the list because they rose to prominence after 2000. My challenge for HSN will be to see how many the board can name. To make it more fun, there is a limit to 3 names per poster. Don't be that guy who thinks that rule does not apply to him. I don't want the first poster cherry picking the 20 easiest names and taking away trhe opportunity for others. I would like as many people as possible to contribute. You don't have to guess their place in the list, just their name. Once that name appears, I will add it in the appropriate spot on the list. Over the next couple of days, let's see how many of the 50 the board can get. I'm setting a target of 35. Remember.........Just 3 names per poster allowed! 1) John Wooden 2) Larry Bird 3) Oscar Robertson 4) Bob Griese 5) Chuck Klein 6) Ray Ewry 7) Rod Woodson 8.) Jeff Gordon 9) Tony Hulman 10) Mordecai (Three-Finger) Brown 11) Bobby Plump 12) Gil Hodges 13) Oscar Charleston 14) George McGinnis 15) Doc Counsilman 16) Glenn Robinson 17) Alex Karras 18) Clyde Lovelette 19) Ed Roush 20) Kent Benson 21) Billy Herman 22) Steve Alford 23) Weeb Ewbank 24) Branch McCracken 25) Stephanie White-McCarty 26) Fuzzy Zoeller 27) Don Mattingly 28) Rick Mount 29) Muriel Davis-Grossfield 30) Don Lash 31) Bob Kuechenberg 32) Tommy John 33) Tom Harmon 34) Shawn Kemp 35) Dick Weber 36) Fred Wilt 37) Kenny Lofton 38) Charlie Finley 39) Tony Zale 40) Tony Hinkle 41) Fuzzy Vandivier 42) Major Taylor 43) Damon Bailey 44) Mark Clayton 45) LaTaunya Pollard 46) Max Carey 47) Lamar Lundy 48) Charles 'Stretch' Murphy 49) Maciel Malone-Wallace 50) Scott Rolen1 point

Without question, I don't think he's nearly as good at development as the legend would have you believe. He's good at selling the dream and aggregating talent. Period.1 point

Looks like the PUkes may have lost today also. We are ahead of them in the standings, and now in 7th, though they have played two fewer games. Penn State is currently a game and a half ahead of us.1 point

Yes sirrrr!!! Reese Sharp again!!! My goodness. Contributions from EVERYONE today. Offense and defense. Wow wow wow!!! On the last out there was some serious emotion from Doanes and Whalen. I loved it. Good for our dudes. We've won 9 of 12 and 3 straight B1G series, against B1G teams that are ahead of us. This one on the road. Wow. I'm still in shock. We weren't perfect most of the weekend but holy cow we were timely.1 point

No time to put into it today but there is some bugs. Next page and similar functions work fine from desktop on home and office networks. iOS mobile has issues on the few different browsers Iāve tried on verison data connection(ip) and is locked out to the blue host page but will login through a WiFi connection. Although at that point none of the next page or similar UI functions work.1 point

Crean is a really solid coach. Idk enough about UE to know if that is where he should go. UGA is poop in basketball, always has been.1 point

I have got two more guesses left..I'm gonna go with Gene Keady's combover. The amount of work that small strand of hair had to do was akin to Mugsy Bogues guarding Shaq in the post.1 point

Does anyone else have an issue using the "next" or "prev" feature? Also can't put in a page # and navigate to that page. This is all on my phone. Haven't checked from tablet or laptop...1 point

I'll be honest. If I ever heard his name before, it was in relation to Michael Phelps passing him for individual golds. But, his name did not register at all when I first saw the list. Had to Google him.1 point

Coach Woodson thinks it's a confidence thing and I'd agree with that. "I think moving forward, and if he decides to come back, the next step is beginning to shoot out on the floor and feel comfortable," Woodson said. "I mean, he took a few shots this year, he made a couple of them, but he's just so unsure of himself and that's something that I just got to get out of him because I'm telling him it's okay to shoot. If coach tells you to even shoot the ball, it's okay, shoot it. I'll tell you when you can't shoot it anymore, but I want him to shoot because that's really the only missing piece. The jump shot is something that we just got to help him and work with him more on."1 point

Haha heās not going anywhere. Itās a highlight video. Everyone calm down. Bawa Muniru could hit 3s too when Iād shoot w/ him at IUā¦ā¦.1 point

Itās gotta take a lot more than a video to convince me, but IF thatās how TJD can shoot next year then heās All-American first team and a first rounder. Heās so quick and bouncy - if he gets his defenders to bite on his jumpers then SEE-YA. Big Ten bigs wonāt have the footwork to stay in front of him. Big IF though.1 point

My first reaction was both āOh man, TJD is coming back and it crashed the serversā and āOh no, what did one of our players/coaches do that crashed the server?ā1 point

Hearing from local sources in Center Grove. That Trayce had a heart to heart to with Woodson last Friday. Sounds like itās either first round or heās coming back.1 point

I've changed my mind on this fella. There's no reason he can't be TJD with a smooth J in college. Effort won't be an issue under Woody.1 point

Iām not here to argue if shooting more 3s is more efficient or notā¦clearly the scoring continues to go up. Just saying itās ugly basketball a great amount of time. I donāt particularly enjoy watching a guy ball screen 3-4 times over and over while a guy dribbles the ball to death (many times carrying it but thatās another story) until finally a guy gets an aloof defender out of position and then go around and getting a layup or kicking it out to 4 guys who all stand around with their thumb up their butt waiting to shoot a 3ā¦.and then see 40% of those go in. I know I could turn it off..and when itās bad I doā¦but just saying I appreciate the teams and guys that play the game differently and think there isnāt enough variety in the league. Sorry if my original post got taken to where the discussion went.1 point
-
Yeah I watch a lot less. I rarely watch regular season anymore. Sad because I want to watch. Iām not pulling a Scott here. Just saying Iād love to watch something beside one on one basketball. I do appreciate the teams that have more movement. I fully realize these are the greatest athletes in rhe worldā¦.just wish there was a little more variety in their game. Nobody shoots mid rangeā¦and not because it isnāt an efficient shotā¦itās inefficient because they donāt practice it and arenāt good at itā¦half the league canāt do anything but stand in a corner and shoot a 3. They canāt break down their defender they canāt post up they donāt know how to read a defense and run off a screen 4 different ways based on the defense to get them an open look. Outside what I see in Golden St and a couple other teams the majority of the league is inept. In the 80s you had role players and non starters if a star went down they could get you 30 just maybe not as efficiently but all the role players knew how to do everything. Now we got guys that canāt dribble or specialize so much that if the star goes downā¦they are useless without someone else getting a shot for them. Just think there is something to say about having a full well rounded gameā¦and the league is too specialized. When everything is perfect sure thatās works wellā¦but when things break down or they have adversityā¦it turns into ugly basketball. Just my observationā¦.still tune in because well by gosh itās basketballā¦and I love the gameā¦but canāt help but wonder if itās being watered down.1 point

The 80s were an incredible era, no disputing that from me. No one is trying to trash the 80s, you're the one taking shots at todays NBA and you're just objectively wrong. The NBA is currently as good as it's ever been - they've done a wonderful job recovering from the 90s and 00s. And most of the current superstars seem to be genuinely good dudes, which makes it even more fun.1 point
