You’ve got a very good point there. I think that’s beyond ridiculous. There’s free agency for a reason. In Europe they call it ambition when you want to win titles and don’t dish out ridicule for forcing yourself to stay in a bad situation. What’s the issue? You want to win?! Shame shame shame on you for bettering your situation! Tsk tsk no no don’t do that. It’s beyond ridiculous. So you’re drafted to Sacramento and you’re a top 10 player now, maybe top 3 in year 4...no you can’t leave! You’re too good.

It is what it is.  The media will never shut up on it.......at least right now.  BTW, I can name 2 players better than KD that aren't in HoF(?).

I meant more of in a top 5 who’s better if bird didn’t have a bad back. I’ve got magic over him but was curious if the back would have changed that.

I wouldn't put Magic over Bird.  Bird was older and Magic came out after 2 years at MSU.

I caught the tail end of magic + bird era, an injured bird for me too being born in 84. Bird have him beat if not for the back or still magic? @Hoosierhoopster

The Bird Celtics were around his age if not older(Parrish).  Bird's back had nothing to do with it.  The Lakers were a better franchise back then.

Kobe was great for sure but I don’t place home top 5. He was knocked out by Nash’s Suns and couldn’t win after Shaq until they brought in a then star level Gasol. His competitiveness and killer instinct is right there with MJ, but I don’t put him at the same level as MJ, LBJ, or Magic. Top 10 or so for me, which has to include Duncan, maybe the best power forward ever. Bird for me is somewhere around top 5.

Kareem and Bill Russell have to be in the mix

I really don't know about Kareem and Russell.  Both had a lot of talent around them.  Magic had the talent around him as well.  No, it is a two horse race.  James or Jordan?

Oh you don’t have to convince me how much of a freak Lebron is.  I bought into the “Lebron isn’t a winner” argument for a while, but that went out the window when he beat that Warriors team after being down 3-1.  Honestly though, what he’s been doing over the course of the playoffs this year might be even more impressive.  To be this dominant at the age of 33, with the amount of minutes he’s played in his career, is absolutely mind boggling.  As for Kobe, I don’t think he comes anywhere close to Lebron.

Kobe is LeBron......just not what is on the court.  Kobe settled out of court on a rape charge.  James bolted for Miami.  And fwiw MJ was screwing a gal from my neck of the woods.  Pick your poison.

Wherever you come down, I think at this point LeBron is undoubtedly top 5 and really at least top 3.

It’s the impossible era debate, just imagine seeing MJ against LeBron, now that would be cool. I’ve seen both live, and Magic, all 3 we’re simply incredible. No one could stop MJ — once he got past the Pistons — but MJ never had to carry a team like the Verajo Cavs to the Finals, MJ never beat a team as good as that GS team in the Finals, back from 3-1 down, but MJ has 6 rings and was unstoppable leading those Bulls’ teams. His killer instinct was second to none,. It’s an impossible debate, and i’m Leaving out a couple of the obvious challengers

    Kobe

I’m agnostic on the MJ/Lebron debate because I never really watched MJ play.  I think there are good arguments on both sides, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s those two, then everyone else.

My Dad is soon to be 78 and an avid b-ball fan.  He loves these discussions when they come up.  The NBA spans his lifetime.  He would tell you that LeBron, without a doubt, is the greatest player he has ever seen.  Think about that for a while.  And fwiw, Dad is a Bulls fan.  King James is like Wilt but better.  He is a freak.

I honestly don't see how he isn't first.

Exactly.  I have seen some of the greats.  LBJ is something else.  I would invite anybody to tell me another player in the NBA that can literally carry their team on their back.  I am not a James fan, but I sure as hell respect his greatness.

It's not an indictment of PG. The only way in retrospect that the trade looks good for OKC is if they went deep this year. They traded for a one-year rental, it didn't work out. It's like when an MLB team mortgages their farm system to win now and then doesn't.

Love your MLB analogy and it is spot on.  It will be deemed a bad trade if PG does indeed bolt from OKC.  One year rental with no results.  And the Thunder fans look at what they gave up for him.

Absolutely, the situation you get drafted into plays a huge part in a players development.

There's nothing like the TD Garden in the NBA. Actually a lot of similarities between IU fans and Celtics fans in terms of knowledge, support, etc. JJ Redick recently said Game 5 in Boston is the loudest arena he's ever played in, and this is a guy that played in 8 Duke-UNC games.

Wait, they play basketball in Boston?

I never thought it was a bad trade for the Pacers considering they were only giving up one year of services from a player that didn't want to be in Indianapolis.  I knew Oladipo would give 110% and be much happier as a Pacer than George was.  That alone was enough for me to call it a pretty good trade considering the hand they were dealt.  The rest of it (Sabonis being better than advertised and Oladipo morphing into an all star) was just gravy.

Look on the bright side......the Vic trade made OKC fans forget about the horrible Harden trade!!!!!!!

If you’re talking a trade for OG, you’re probably in the Sabonis and Turner for OG and a first round pick area. There would need to be filler for contracts to make the salaries match, etc so Toronto would probably have to throw in another player. Not sure which side says no, probably both. Indy would be giving up two rotation guys for one, while Toronto would be giving up a guy that is potentially a future great, and currently really good 3 and D guy.

But again, as KoB said, the Pacers are not getting OG. If they did, it would be like 6-7 years from now after his second contract.

Not at all talking a trade to the Pacers.  Just curious as to what the Raptors think his worth is.  Somehow I feel that those guys aren't happy about their coach getting fired.

The Pacers aren't going to get OG. The asking price for him would be ridiculously high and any pieces we have that would entice Toronto we aren't going to move.

Which begs the question.......what does Toronto think his value his?
