I fully trust Woodson on this stuff, so if he thinks he can maximize Caleb Love's talent then it would be a huge transfer portal win.

With that said I mentioned yesterday that I have a bunch of buddies that are UNC fans. I saw one last night and asked him his thoughts on Love leaving UNC.

He said, "I wanted to pop open a bottle of champagne when I saw the news!" He was literally giddy that Love was leaving.

But....if he does figure out how to maximize Love's talent and he becomes a lottery pick, then what a huge sell for future recruits.

But they know so much more ball and can talk simply. Seth Davis has zero clue about ball, he just talks and knows good players.

Kenny Smith might not know the teams, but he knew the EXACT difference immediately between TJD/Edey Indiana/Purdue. We can play multiple ways. Purdue cant.

Kenny Smith is better than anybody ESPN has, imo. Not talking announcers of games.  Talking studio guys.

I saw that too. Kenny made it very clear why we have a better chance of going deep than PU. These guys don't know too much prior to the games, but do know what they are seeing on the court.

I liked how we didn’t buckle on any of KS mini spurts. Especially considering how many of those spurts were aided by weird or lucky moments. A good resilient effort last night.

Five of Sincere's points, that 1/3 of his total pts, came on that prayer 3 pointer and that prayer from the side that nearly needed to go over the backboard. It never felt like we were really threatened in this game. The score did not reflect the total control that we had.

  4. Purdue is a really good team and has strong program built with smart players who won't see much time on an NBA court. They're record this year is impressive and they could easily make a deep run in the tournament. This is the Purdue blue-print. Of course, their blue-print also includes regularly underperforming in the tourney, but I digress.

IU is playing very well right now, but I think it is clear that we go as our defense goes. Against Maryland, and in the first 10 minutes yesterday, our defensive energy was weak, which always translates into lazy and stagnant offense on the other end. We settled for 3 pointers like 3 possessions in a row, and Purdue dumped it into Edey, which lead to wide open 3's that they hit. I didn't read the game thread, but I bet the vast majority of Hoosiers thought we were done for when they got it back to a 1-2 possession game.  That's when I think our defense kicked back up. JHS hit a few shots, and that was all she wrote.

I am most excited with the performance of TJD. Despite being one of the all-time great players at IU, I don't ever remember him playing this way against a really good big man. This bodes very well.

As far as the guards, I think JHS is the best in the conference, but he is a freshman. Purdue's guards will be around longer than he will, and they will never be the reason why Purdue can't win. I think we are getting a guy in Cupps who will be like that.

IMO that thinking (we need an IU guy) is as shortsighted as limiting recruiting to the state of Indiana.

I agree, but the fanbase needs to get that thinking out of their heads. What would need to happen now for this team to get to 20 wins? Even if we turn around our play, adjustment made, etc. the rest of the Big Ten is too good to win that many games unless we play like a top 10 team. Hard to see this happening.

We are moving from "wait 'til next year" to the "wait 'til next coach".

  6. A big part of the Hoosier fan-base always took comfort in the idea that we would return to our rightful position in college basketball if we just had an IU guy. If CMW doesn't turn this around what is left?.......I guess bring in Alford to kill off any lingering hope in the few stragglers.

How I feel about this team and where I feel they can go is not anything close to how I thought I would feel at this point. Disappointment is measured by the distance between expectations and reality. I had such high expectations coming into this season. Boy…that has changed.

That being said — GO HOOSIERS!

    Same here, brother.

  8. I expect this game will be just the thing to feed into the self-loathing part of me. I am afraid to watch, but as of yet, I can't look away. Good chance we lose by double digits.

That being said, isn't about time that this team wins a game to move us back into the "Hopeful" phase of our Hoosier Fan Cycle?

not saying we need to fire Woodson, BUT... "his experience" is zero in college basketball.  that was my concern.

It was everyone's concern. Injuries certainly have to be considered, but we lack identity and our defense has been substandard. Not sure what the future holds for IU and Woodson, but a restless fanbase needs to be given hope soon, or else this could end just like the last several coaches.
