  1. A little surprised the opening line is IU favored by 11 1/2. Minny has only lost two games, and did go into Michigan and win. Lost their two home games though to Mich. St. and Illinois, but that is some tough competition.
  2. Men's Basketball and MSU is favored by 3 pts. Northwestern is very good this year. Won't be easy for anyone going onto their home court. I like the time. Means less people will be there due to watching the FB games, plus the students are gone, so should be very close to a neutral court game. We are favored by 4 pts. now.
  3. When you look at the setup at Carrier, it just seems it would take the crowd out of it to a degree. They are so far from the floor. Wonder what their home court advantage is like?
  4. IU is now favored by 2.5 pts. That is a significant move. Lot of money going on the Hoosier side!
  5. Early line is out. IU is favored by 1.5.
  6. Spread opened up at 22.5. I think we are going to play much better. I am sure Woodson has been on them since Tuesday morning.
  7. I was just teaching this morning over in SPEA, and I decided to drive by Assembly Hall on the way into school. This was around 11:30 AM, and to my amazement, they already had the exits blocked off by police, and attendants in place. I know the game is early, but a bit surprised. Reminded me of the Geico commercial, where the guy is teaching the adults not to end up like their Dad, and they go to a ball game. When they get out of the van, the first thing all of them start talking about is parking. Parking is where the money is. I am easily entertained, but it gave me a laugh!
  8. In addition, Halloween is on a Sunday, and all the NFL games additionally. Not the best way to garner a little fanfare. Makes sense to me. No conspiracy theories to worry about here! For his announcement on IG, I was thinking in the Halloween spirit, he should rip off his sweats, and have the "Candy Stripes" on, telling the nation he is IU bound! No need to say anything! A true treat for IU fans!
  9. One thing I don't think is getting enough attention and which we will see an impact is the participation of IU's academic professors, students, and alumni. Kelly's business school, SPEA, etc. are both highly successful schools within IU and are rated as top programs in the nation. There will be a synergy that comes from IU's academic schools which impacts NIL in ways we can't comprehend yet. If anybody understands how to profit from social media, this generation of students is the one to help IU and NIL. They will see capital streams that we do not, which is another arrow in the quiver. Cuban made his billions because he was able to look forward at the beginning of the internet era. When Cuban sold Broadcast for $$$, it was really more of a concept waiting for higher bandwidth. Imagine what this generation of entrepreneurs will think of in relation to NIL. I think it is a two edged sword, but in the end, I think having the different schools within IU involved will be a boon for all involved.
  10. Hey all- Have not posted for awhile, but I think NIL is going to be huge for Indiana and recruiting. Indiana is not going to pass a State law covering NIL, so they will not have to follow State rules. IU and Wisconsin are the only ones who will not be following State law. I don't how much advantage if any this will be, but Indiana has been really blazing there own path. Indiana was the first school in the country to have a task force related to NIL. They have an incredible system set up and ready to go which will have the Kelly School of Business supporting it, and of course Opendorse, to tailor content for each athlete and choose a plan for each athlete. The Indiana Daily Student wrote a piece on NIL which is really informative on just how far ahead of the NIL game IU is, and as they say, they are doing it for selfish reasons: Recruiting! Remember, IU's fan base is huge and in every State! https://www.idsnews.com/article/2021/06/legislation-or-not-iu-is-ready-to-give-athletes-competitive-brand-building-edge-nil
  11. Although this is not something I like, it seems like athletes being paid is going to be happening sooner for their name, likeness, etc. California's bill was for it to start in 2023, but other state legislatures, Florida for one are trying to get this going much sooner, so the question is how it will affect basketball. There are a million other questions to be answered as to the particulars, but being a finance guy, I have been thinking how it will affect the NCAA basketball and of more importance, Indiana. I first thought about college location, and what kind of impact it would have, and it will, but smaller than I first thought. The major question is how do you recruit when you really don't know how good a 5* is going to be, but you have to treat him like he is going to be the next Michael Jordan in terms of getting his name, and likeness out there which will equate to more dollars. I think it is also important to ask the question is how this will affect recruiting, and when I ask this question I look at it a different way. Will the recruiting budget of colleges in part be used to lure players to come and play for you if you deem them important to the team. In this case, Indiana having the highest recruiting budget would be in great shape. The pockets of the bid donors, how big the alumni fan base is and how far reaches, are all for IU also. There is so much too think of, but just in general financial terms, I would love to start getting some thoughts on how this is going to affect teams in their recruiting, how it will change, and of course how it will impact Indiana. Until details are filled in, we can only go off of the basic idea of what is going to happen. As I said, I am a bit weary of what is going on, but at least from a financial standpoint, Indiana is in good shape, and I know of many Universities who cannot say the same. Love to hear thoughts on this new topic, which I have not seen a thread posted on yet.
