  1. He was up and down years 1 through 4. He is a great coach, I said that up front. However he is a great coach who is 68 years old. At that age you need him to pay off immediately. Like you said, that is a hard thing to do. And recruiting after the first year or two will get tougher. He is going to be viewed as having 1 foot out the door on day 1, fair or not. Like I said, I would support the guy but I think that is a really risky hire. It could pay off or it could be a disaster.
  2. Site goes down for a few days, some things change, and here we are on the same page now. I like this much more than arguing about getting rid of a coach.
  3. Yes. He was hard after Zeller when he was at Butler. I could see him adding a guy like Mike Lewis to the staff who is going to have some national connections now with having been on the west coast. I am preferencing this next comment by saying that I am not expecting the results of this guy, but Stevens has the ability to become the next Coach K in that the media like him, he has that calm presence, he is a good coach and they will be willing to push him...that could help push recruits this way.
  4. That is the one guy on our lists where I am "meh". Don't get me wrong, great coach...but it took him awhile to get things rolling at Michigan and at 68, time is not on his side. He left Michigan because he did not like recruiting. He is a 5 or 6 year plug at best and then we are having to do this all over again. I'll be supportive if he is the guy, but that pick would worry me.
  5. Usually I am a skeptic, but some of the things outside of the Indiana side are what have me thinking that this is all on the up and up. The biggest one being that the national guys have zip, zero, nada on any other candidates. They have, "Indiana should pick an Indiana guy" and there were several "It should be Beard or Drew" articles before things got started, but since then it has been a desert of info from them. To me that is far from the norm because the college guys who get contacted have a way of letting that leak. Even not getting picked, just having your name attached to a job like Indiana from an interest standpoint can help you with a raise...but there has been nothing. And on the NBA side, there were some questions, they got an answer they were predisposed to believe was true "No way an NBA guy is to a college, especially a has been like Indiana..." so they have lost interest. As someone pointed out last night, this has been like Harbaugh to Michigan. The only people taking that seriously were Michigan people listening to connected folks (like you, 0708, Chris007, etc.) who were saying, "He is the only target and we are getting him." With the local media starting to kind of say, "hey, this has legs" it just feels like so much more smoke than the Donovan thing. Stevens may end up not at Indiana, but I firmly believe that up to this point he has been candidate 1-100 for Dolson. There is no one else we are trying to get unless and until Brad says yes or no.
  6. Yeah, rumor was Roberts. Not sure who the recruit was supposed to be though.
  7. Yes, you see things for what they are and the rest of us are imbeciles. All due respect man, we all can comprehend what you are saying just fine. We just think you are wrong. I agree with you on some of the coaching names thrown out there. I do think some of the names are out there. As far as me "getting what I deserve" when it comes to IU basketball, what should I get? Not getting to really enjoy the NCAA tournament because IU is not playing in it? Well I have been getting that for the past five years. Seeing Indiana finish towards the bottom of the BIG? Ditto. (This is where you tell me we finished 6th in Archie's first year which is technically the top half...yippee). Seeing a bunch of losing basketball? Seen that happen 55 times since Miller hit campus and that is with 2 shortened seasons and the 4th season not even complete yet. Me "getting what I deserve" cannot get much worse than what I have been getting. "But injuries and COVID and things that every program deals with..." Yes, I know, that and some statistical improvements that have not led to wins are the aforementioned things that we peons cannot comprehend.
  8. You are talking Rutgers/Nebraska on an Indiana message board. Getting bent out of shape that people would look at a game between two bottom feeder programs on an Indiana board through an IU lens is non-sensical. If we were doing well and Scott said something along the lines of us being able to roll both these teams should we meet up in the BTT, you wouldn't care. We are not playing well and you are a sunshine pumper (nothing wrong with that, it is what it is) and the fact that we have reached a place where most people think there is zero sunshine to be pumped is annoying to you. Fair enough. You got mad at the Lander thread and the criticism there, you were reaching for something to be positive about when the way he has been used and played this year is kind of negative. My advice, every Indiana board right now is going to be negative, if it is going to bug you that much, might be a good time to take a break for a few weeks and see what happens with the coach.
  9. I don't want to poop on your thread, but you are basically saying, "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? Why you have to keep talking about that when I am trying to discuss the acting in Act 2?" As for Scott taking a shot at Indiana, he stated a fact. It was a fact that wasn't really great for IU, but a fact nonetheless. This is an Indiana based site. Most posters are going to approach every basketball related topic in an Indiana University tinted view.
  10. And Tom was in school when I was IIRC. So it has been at least 20 years.
  11. Who is the last guy we got out of LN? Have had several good players roll through that school who have chosen to go elsewhere over the years.
  12. To a degree, I get it. I hate the way these announcements are done these days...but they are what they are. They will keep happening as long as 30, 40, and 50 year old men have countdowns on the decisions of 16, 17, and 18 year olds.
  13. We have a game tomorrow and we don't even have an Illinois pregame thread up yet. I think the problem you run into is that once the coach loses a fan, none of the other stuff feels as important. The other topics have an "other than that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln" vibe to them for some. It is kind of why I have cut down on posting, not much to say at the moment.
  14. I watched some of his highlights. Looked like the majority of his game is as a slasher to the rim. Are we recruiting him as a 2 or a 3? I like the ability to take it to the rim but we really need some guys out there that are a true threat from deep. I have not seen him play, so not sure how much of his game is shooting. I see a big piece is being athletic and getting to the rim for sure.
  15. Sounds like we were on him first, sometimes that goes a long way with a kid. I do not believe Miller should be willing to concede any corner of this state to anyone anymore. We took Phinissee from Purdue's literal backyard.
  16. Was Ohio State in the mix? Much better to see him playing against the Badgers or Hawkeyes than for them....particularly the former. Wisconsin and Purdue are 2 programs that I am ready to go on a "sick and blanking tired" Knight rant about.
  17. I agree that getting guys in that area above 80 more regularly helps push you into that upper echelon...but, hear me out, I think we need to build ourselves back to that. Miller is pulling in Wisconsin level guys. If he is able to get recent Wisconsin level results, then I believe that is where the Indiana brand can kick in again and start helping us land those bigger fish. This took over 20 years to break, it will take a little while to fix.
  18. Putting in work during a hard period to recruit. Welcome aboard kid.
  19. I have seen 6'8 to 6'9 for his height. Anyone know if he is expected to keep growing? If we were to land him, it would be nice if he were more in the 6'10 to 6'11 range. Also, is the current height legitimate or is it the usual where they say 6'8 but they go off to get measured by the pros and are actually a shade over 6'6?
  20. Dan is an entertainer. He is like a WWE wrestler who switches from face to heel as the need arises. He'll spend one day talking, in very derogatory terms, about the IU players and staff, and then come back the next day and chide the fans for saying the exact same things he was saying the day before. And that gets people to pay attention to him. Love him or hate him, you have to give him some kudos for what he does. Some of the most biting criticism has come from Dakich. He is a former player with a fairly big megaphone in the largest market in the state. He does way more damage to the IU brand on his daily show than any knucklehead fan on Twitter or a message board. And the thing about him, is he says this stuff and you don't really even know if there is conviction behind it. He slams the coaching staff and then slams the fans for slamming the coaching staff. I at least prefer the earnestness of fans having an opinion over a talking head cynically putting a finger to the wind to see how to get listeners....
  21. We basically need Hunter and a one of either RP or some other guard to be a consistent threat from outside. If we get that, I think Brunk can be a garbage guy down low and TJD has shown he can be hard to handle when given some space down low.
  22. I think we need Phinissee to develop. I am not worried about our frontcourt, our guards are what kill us right now. That is why I am hoping for a JC or Grad transfer at the 2 that can help fill the gap while the other younger guys develop.
