How about a five-man class of Harper, Newell, McNeeley, Bidunga, and Mustaf? Let the first four start day one with Cupps at the 1.
-
I certainly think the team is competitive as is. But adding an experienced 10-12 PPG starting CG, and moving Galloway to 6th man, would make it a legit Final Four contender.
-
I get that. Again, I'm just looking for insurance for a long-term injury to Cupps or XJ. Gunn and Newton don't provide that.
-
To me, guys like Newton and Gunn are more in the mold of a 2/3. We need a guy who's more of a 1/2. I wouldn't want to rely on either to run the point for any length of time. But I agree that a CG isn't a dire need, but would be nice to have at this point. But it's certainly not something I'd be desperate to add unless the fit, talent, etc., checked all the boxes.
-
I do think the roster would benefit from adding a true CG, someone capable of running the point 5-10 minutes per game if necessary, just as a backstop should XJ or Cupps get hurt. Galloway can fill in in a pinch, but I think it hurt us last year to not have a more capable backup option for JHS once Xavier went down. That having been said, that addition would ideally be a one-year guy, to keep space open for 2024.

Did Davis ever enter the portal? I thought he did, but just Googled it and didn't see anything other than a story today saying he'd decide between staying in the draft or returning to Arkansas soon. If Davis isn't an option, are there any other 4th/5th year SG/CG types still out there that we're targeting?

So on BTB the story seems to be that Mgbako said he was cancelling the UL visit yesterday morning before leaving Bloomington, but now is a heavy UL lean a day later because his agent said so (which was what I took away from the BTB thread). I'm sorry, but I just don't find that credible. If the agent is driving the process, then they never would have said they were cancelling the last visit. I just can't believe things would flip that quickly, it doesn't make sense. Now it's certainly possible that UL has always been in the driver's seat. But the way the series of events is being presented makes no sense.

I've always said that the problem with most insiders is that they're almost always connected to the program, not the recruit. So for the most part they can only give you a sense of what the coaching staff thinks, but not what's actually going on inside the head of the recruit. So I always take anything they say with a hearty dose of salt...

2024 Flory Bidunga Commits to Kansas
IUProfessor replied to Coach Robby's topic in Basketball Recruiting
There's a Michigan article out speculating that Bidunga maybe you considering reclassifying to 2023, and the Ann Arbor could be a possible landing spot: https://gbmwolverine.com/2023/05/02/michigan-basketball-mix-5-star-reclassify-2023/ -
The Athletic ranked Haralson as one of the most impressive players at the EYBL: Jalen Haralson (No. 9 in 2025): If you’re stat-obsessed, the guy who made just nine field goals in four games and averaged only 11.5 points probably doesn’t jump off the page. But Haralson is a treat to actually watch. He’s a 6-7 point guard with terrific vision and passing ability who spent the weekend defending like crazy, ripping rebounds and initiating the break, using that terrific size and awareness to whip the ball to an open man. He averaged 5.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds and managed to score 13 points against MOKAN Elite without officially attempting a shot. He got to the line over and over and made every free throw he took. Indiana had multiple coaches at every game for the Indy Heat’s elite playmaker. https://theathletic.com/4446069/2023/04/25/college-basketball-recruiting-nil-cooper-flagg/

Our apparent recent lack of activity does give credence to the theory that we may be targeting a couple of guys who are currently testing the draft waters. For instance, it's theoretically possible that we have a soft understanding with a Devo Davis that he should go through the full draft process get feedback on what he needs to improve, with the idea that he would then come to IU to receive NBA caliber coaching and training.

Do we really know this? I find it entirely plausible that the staff prioritized Ledlum before Ware came into play. But as others have noted, the fit became less apparent once Ware was on board. So it's entirely possible that our interest in him cooled accordingly.

Seems like the Hunter Sallis recruitment has been quiet. I'd think he'd be another great buy-low candidate that could burnish Woody's development credentials if he could rebuild his stock and get him to the league. Definitely worth a flyer at this point in my view, unless there are personality concerns.
-
Bullet dodged on Ledlum, IMO. I just never saw the attraction for an undersized 4 transitioning from the Ivy League to the B1G. But now the pressure is on to land a couple impact wings.
-
Fair enough, didn't mean to single you out, was just honestly curious if I missed an interview.
-
To be fair, I don't think Ledlum did any post-visit interviews with the IU media, did he?

He blew up this year after committing to Purdue in Sept. Jumped 100 spots in the 247 rankings, going from ~115 to a top 20 5-star. I too wonder how he'd affect Newell and McNeely, but the three could potentially co-exist interchangeably at the 2-4.
