Sports betting in Indiana starts on Sunday....

I just saw a book will open down south at the boat.

Who will take advantage of the new kind of “gaming fun” as I saw it called?

Of those that will, will anyone try to strategically beat books with some type of system?

Shelbyville to open immediately. Indy, Lawrenceburg, East Chicago, Michigan City to follow within a short period after.

Don't see anything thus far in NE Indiana.

Do you plan on participating???

I'm torn. I don't need more vices. However I believe in certain numbers, strategies, risk assessment,etc.....I might give it a go. Haven't decided yet. The better half is considering me starting with a nominal amount and see what I can do with it. Famous last words.

Kind of the way I am.  Up in the air...not much of a gambler with games of chance, sports is a different animal.

I'm not good at many things but sports and numbers I am. We'll see. Will decide a nominal amount in the next few days and decide. I never do any gambling with $ I can't afford to lose....but I do have a theory I'm working on. Essentially 5 games per week. Never parlays. Just wanting to go 60% win ratio which is actually below what I've done in similar pools for years. Now it's just a couple extra $.... I wouldn't be doing this for gambling. Pure business is the way I look at it.

I’m in the same boat as you two. I’m sure I’ll bet just to do it, but I certainly don’t need to.

I have a math/stats background but I’ve never studied betting systems that closely.  I usually just see a line or 2 that sticks out.

That's my problem. Always will be a line or two but the advantage the house has is on numbers. Instead of 1-2.....choose 5 instead of 2. Leverage your risk instead of giving the house the advantage based upon same formulas each person uses.

Hell, maybe we can turn this thread into a numbers crunching thing?  Compare what each of us thinks and what our analytics say?  I am game.

I'll say what I'm thinking by next Friday on the bets part. I'm a Bears fan. Rule #1 on betting even if we think the Bears will kick the everlasting crap out of the Pack next Thursday I won't touch it.

I am the same way, I stay away from my favorite teams.

So, this is how lucky I am at sports betting.

In 1985 I was down about $100 bucks to a guy at work over cribbage and backgammon games. He was one of the luckiest SOBs I ever saw. Need a double 6? He'd roll them.

Anyway, he didn't really want my money. We were friends and he wanted to keep it that way. So, knowing I was a Bears fan, he says, "Tell you what. The Bears are undefeated. I'll bet you double or nothing on the next Bears game. Who are they playing?"

" Miami..."

I started this thread and then didn’t respond. Just got home from Fantasy Football draft.

I am not a big gambler and since there isn’t a casino mentioned up this way, I won’t go out of my way to make bets. If something opens closer to home I would consider betting on events that are not every day— definitely not baseball , basketball or hockey. Would probably bet on pro football over college, as college decided not to provide injury statuses.

Like you guys, I would never bet on my favorite teams and would put a hard cap on my wagers

LOL, gambling was so much "purer" in the 70's and early 80's.  Lines in Vegas went strictly by the "eye test."
