cybergates
Game 11 VS A polar opposite of the previous game, the 2009 and 1968 Hoosiers get a fortuitous matchup vs. each other. Both squads had losing records and finished near the basement in the Big Ten. Tom Crean’s in his 1st season looks to add to the foundation by advancing in the tournament at Lou Watson’s expense. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/2009.html https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1968.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008–09_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967–68_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team
cybergates
Game 12 VS The 2000 Hoosiers and Bob Knight in his final season take on the 1977 Hoosiers, a team trying to live up to their undefeated NCAA Champion predecessors. The SRS rankings favor both teams more than their on-court results, as both teams experienced disappointing seasons. Seniors AJ Guyton (2000) and Kent Benson (1977) led their respective teams. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/2000.html https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1977.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999–2000_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976–77_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team
5fouls
In the game pitting '09 vs. '68, Tom Pritchard slams home a Verdell Jones miss at the buzzer to help the '09 team to a surprising upset over the '68 Hoosiers. After the game, when asked to give his thoughts about the win, Tom Crean stated. "We're Indiana, and they're not." When told that his opponent was, in fact, Indiana, Crean seemed perplexed. In the '00 versus '77 game, the '77 team came into the matchup as underdogs, but after a compelling pre-game speech by Coach Knight where he stated. "They don't respect you! They think you're no better than Pepperdine!", the '77 Hoosier came out with fire in their belly and cruised to a 20 point win.
rico
The '68 vs. '09 is a tough one especially for me since 1968 is before my memory. But yet, somehow that '68 squad found their way in to the polls. I go with '68. That '77 team just never put it together. But they did feature 4 future NBA players in Kent Benson, Mike Woodson, Wayne Radford, and Butch Carter. Going with '77 over '00.
