cybergates
Game 49 VS The Sweet 16 is here and the matchups promise to be tough from here on out. In a battle of Big Ten Champs, Jay Edwards and 1989 face off with Steve Downing and 1973. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1989.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988–89_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1973.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1972–73_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team
cybergates
Game 50 VS In another matchup of teams one year apart, the 1980 takes on the 1981. In a shout-out to HTD, the 1981 team lost Butch Carter and Mike Woodson while only adding Craig Bardo and Mike LaFave, but was able to play better than their predecessors when it mattered most winning the 1981 Championship. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1980.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979–80_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1981.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980–81_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team
5fouls
In the first game, '73 coach Bob Knight forbid the team from attempting any 3 pointers during the game after watching freshman Quinn Buckner air-ball 4 straight in practice behind the unfamiliar line. Unfortunately, that came back to bite him as Jay Edwards's 8 three pointers, including the last second game winner, were supported by Joe Hillman's 3 three pointers. The 33 point difference behind the arc was just enough as '89 with the mild upset by a score of 76-75.
5fouls
In the second game, the '80 team boasts two extra NBA players, but it's not enough to overcome the added experience and chemistry of the '81 squad at tournament time.
