cybergates
Game 60 VS The “Cinderella” of this tournament, 1979 looks to make the Final Four after only placing 5th in the Big Ten. To do so they'll have to take out the 1987 NCAA and Big Ten Champs. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1979.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1978–79_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1987.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986–87_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team
5fouls
In the first game, the '75 team seemed aghast by the bruising and swelling on '83 player Dan Dakich;s face as the result of getting punched several times during the previous game against the 1978 Hoosiers. Although Dan only played 3 minutes, it was just long enough for Kent Benson to give Dan an industrial sized wedgie the required Dakich to head to the locker room early. The game itself was not really close. '75 cruised to a 17 point victory.
5fouls
Before the second game the skeptics were saying the '79 team did not belong. They were a product of an easy bracket. With that chip on their shoulder, they jumped out to a double-digit first half lead. But, a 2nd half 3 point barrage by Steve Alford brought the '87 squad all the way back. Who was going to get the chance to take the big shot at the end? Would it be Woodson or Alford? Wittman or Smart? Maybe a defensive gem by Tolbert or Garrett? Or a hustle play by Carter or Thomas. Nah, it was none of those. Magnus Pelkowski hit 1 of 2 foul shots with 1,7 seconds left to send the '87 team to the Final Four.
