cybergates
Game 61 VS The Final Four is here and none of the teams are a surprise. In the first matchup, 1981 and 1976 NCAA Champs go head to head for a spot in the finals. Isiah Thomas and 81 will have to play a perfect game if they want to upset the undefeated 76 Hoosiers. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1981.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980–81_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1976.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1975–76_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team

cybergates
Game 62 VS In the 2nd matchup, 1987 NCAA Champs take on one-loss powerhouse #1 SRS ranked 1975. 87 will need to use what they learned vs. Syracuse bigs Rony Seikaly and Derrick Coleman to try and slow down Kent Benson and Scott May. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1975.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974–75_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/1987.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986–87_Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball_team
cybergates
75 is incredible and I agree with Knight if he says they're better than 76. Just now, IU Scott said: my final is 75 vs
5fouls
First game. Interesting fact about the '81 team. Tolbert was the only player to start every game. Wittman was the only other player to even play in all 35 games. The '81 team was much better than their record indicated. So, yes, they could compete with the undefeated champs. And they did. Back and forth the game went. In the end, Scott May was the matchup that '81 had no answer for, and Coach Knight took full advantage of it. May scored 33 points in route to a 5 point win for the '76 squad.
5fouls
Second game. Interesting fact about the -87 team. All 5 starters averaged in double figures. Magnus Pelkowski, at a mere 3.8 ppg was 6th on the team in scoring. It's safe to say that if Coach Knight had not broken tradition and recruited Garrett and Smart from the Juco ranks, IU would have been nowhere close to a championship quality team. What does all of that have to do with their matchup against the '75 team? Not a darn thing. What did matter was that Steve Green was loving the 3 point line and matched Alford 3 pointer for 3 pointer. Meanwhile, Buckner, Benson, May, Wilkerson, and Abernathy, knowing they had already won the first game had extra incentive to play against themselves in the Championship to ensure they would get the ring. '75 wins.

'75 wins. People forget how good Steve Green was...averaged close to 17 ppg as both as a junior and a senior while shooting over 55% (58% as a senior). And they weren't layups. He was lethal from the deep corners...

Yes, they lost Laskowski from the '75 team as well, but all the other players were a year older. and normally experience wins out. But, Knight thought that much of Green

He was a player...

You know the one honoring their accomplishment, across the hall from the five banners. TIme for Hoosier Sports Nation to give the trophy to the '75 team. Just my humble opinion. By giving the trophy to '75, then '76 is no longer undefeated.
