Fiveoutofsix
It was like yesterday when Coach Hoeppner said this: "We have the seven blocks of limestone," said Hoeppner. "The seven offensive linemen that we signed today, the future of IU football – we're building on those blocks of limestone – 6-6, 285 and athletic." This is where the focus needs to be, it has to. Instead of discussing in segments in game threads, thought a devoted thread would be a good discussion.
Leathernecks
It will take at least a couple years to overcome this train wreck. It isn't like we have a scheme issue that could be fixed in a year. Our OL struggles with everything. Fundamentals will have to be completely retaught by a new coach (no way Hiller survives this disaster). More talent will have to be recruited. We have to make the OL our biggest emphasis moving forward. If we had a Kevin Wilson line, we would be a really good team this year. Our OL play has limited our running game, put a ton of pressure on QBs, and caused almost all routes to be quick and not allow our WR to get separation. What does the OL room look like with underclassman? QB's and RB's have no chance. Can't blame WR's for not creating separation, there literally is no time, rhythm, etc. Not just this game, every game this season.

The underclassmen OL has a ton of bodies, only a few were very highly rated. Haven't watched tonight's game (thankfully), but I can't think of the last time we were able to run routes down the field. I think our playcalling is too predictable and doesn't help the OL, but I don't think anybody is good enough at calling plays to make this OL look good. We've had no holes to run all year. Even last game, we had a long run, and they showed the replay, and the MSU LB took the wrong hole. We didn't even really have to block anybody, they just made a mistake and had nobody there. You have to be able to move...with strength and authority. Edited October 24, 2021 by jv1972iu

Have to get the right personality in their to recruit this position and make it a priority. Isn't there an IU alum that went from coaching BC to UCLA that might of been interested in returning before going to UCLA? Coach Allen needs to hire the head coach of the offence - he was able to do that for a year - there has to be another solution.
iuthruandthru
With the transfer portal the line could be rebuilt in a year. Get the right OL coach to bring in the right guys and just maybe…
