  1. All of my quarantine DIY projects are completed or as close as can be. I really came out of my comfort zone. I was able to remodel the bathroom, did 3 rooms of laminate flooring, did our living room wall with shiplap galvanized tin and antique barnwood, an arbor swing from old doors and changed the pool liner. Picked up some better and much need tools. I wont go as far as saying it was fun but I do feel somewhat accomplished in an area of weakness. Our bathroom mirror my wife ordered finally came in so I installed it and the shelves I made. A couple pics.

  2. Sigh...Some people Was this guy not smart enough to know the difference between freedom of expression and shopping in a privately owned enterprise who can dictate their own rules? Good for the Costco manager... And for all the people who're "boycotting" Costco because of the mask policy, I say good...less dummies I have to deal with when I go...

  3. Here is how it was explained to me, at least this is what I took away from the conversation. When the body detects a need for an immune response, it creates cytokines and sends them out to destroy the problem. Vitamin D3 is the key that unlocks the cytokines, if there is not enough D3 then the cytokines can’t do their job. As the body continues to see a problem, it keeps creating and sending cytokines, which still cannot be unlocked. This hyperactive immune response creates what is called a cytokine storm. This creates all kinds of inflammation problems and in the case Covid-19 can severely damage the lungs which can cause respiratory problems and death. The moral of the story is to keep your D3 levels high so your immune system can do its job. I have been blessed with fairly good weather here in Colorado since this whole thing started, so I have spent a great portion of my time at work out in the sun. Easy to do when you run a job site building a car wash. I’ve also been take 4-6,000 mg of vitamin C every day and forcing myself to get good sleep. I quit eating sugar a few years ago, but that’s another story completely.

  4. This is very NYC right now. If the language isn't appropriate, I apologize in advance, but thought it might provide some comedic relief.

  7. I’m no health nut, but I quit drinking pop, and switched to water, about twelve years ago because I was close to bankruptcy and didn’t have any money. After a while I realized that whenever I did drink pop it was disgustingly sweet. I started limiting my caffeine intake because I was having problems with my gut whenever I drank coffee. Now I mostly just drink either water or beer and don’t eat candy. I don’t really watch what I eat, but I rarely eat a lot at any meal and I walk the dog at least 2 miles almost every night. I have a real skeptical attitude towards the medical industry these days. Our society has been told for decades that drugs will fix the problem. Then they make drugs to fix problems instead of finding the underlying reason for the problem. If you have a headache, take an aspirin, don’t think about why your head hurts. It could simply be that you are dehydrated and need water, which means the water you drink to wash down the aspirin is doing more good than the aspirin itself. The media will not say anything that goes against the established narrative because the pharmaceutical companies pay the bills with advertising.

  8. Not a sports related trivia question, but here goes. In the world of coronavirus. How many days in a row can my teenage son wear the same pair of socks? The final answer is still a TBD, but we're approaching double digits.

  10. This goes back to a very basic rule I learned at a young age: when you're a guest in someone else's house, you play by their rules. Don't like their rules? Don't visit their house. In this case, Costco asks its customers to wear a mask. If you want to shop at this store, then wear a f*cking mask. It's not hard. Or, shop at a different store that doesn't require masks. But in this day and age, I suppose it's much easier to make a video of yourself acting like a tough guy and trying to sound like some sort of rebel with phrases like "it's a free country" and "I'm not a sheep." Which, I agree with him, he's not a sheep; he's a mentally retarded mule.

  11. I wouldn't mind visiting that guy at his home to sit naked on his leather couch after mowing the lawn on a 100 degree day. When he kicks me out I just want to scream in his face that it's my right to be able to sit down. I've been saying that if any type of mask regulation is going to be implemented it's going to have to come from the private industry.

  12. "During 1987 NFL strike, he served one game as a punter for the Detroit Lions." Here's my 1987 NFL strike story... In February of 1987, I got orders to Greenland with a report NLT date of 10 October. I found out the last plane (C-141 out of McGuire AFB) I could get to meet that date was 10/7 which was, coincidentally, our 4th wedding anniversary. So I decided we'd go out to that area (had to fly into Philly) on the 2nd and have a little 2nd honeymoon. Booked the flight. A few days later, I noticed that the Bears were playing the Eagles, in Philadelphia, on 10/3. I asked my wife if she wanted to go and she said "Sure!" So I bought the tickets. In September, they went on strike. Cancelled the tickets as I wasn't going to pay $60 (which was what the 2 tickets cost) to watch replacement players. We had a good time anyway. Went to Atlantic City for a couple of days, then took my wife to lunch at Philly's famous Bookbinder's Restaurant before putting her back on a flight to St Louis and taking a bus over to McGuire for my flight to Greenland... We toast that trip every anniversary...

  13. Great post. I was also reading that this hyper-reactive immune response doesn’t typically happen in children because their immune system hasn’t evolved to that level. I read this a few weeks ago so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think it was prhased that a child’s immune system is still ‘learning’. This is ironically the reason why some doctors think they are relatively safe from the virus. I hear you on sugar. I still have my challenges, but greatly reduced it over the years. It’s crazy to actually sit down and look at how much added sugar you consume in a single day. Especially if you are a pop drinker. My friend is a dietician who specializes in weight loss, she says the very first thing she’s tells people to do is cut out the added sugar because it affects your body in so many ways. Every now and then I slowly fall off the bandwagon, but for me, when my sugar intake is low I sleep better, my knees feel better (sugar causes inflammation), my blood pressure is lower, my workouts are better and I don’t get sick as much (and if I do the duration isn’t as long). I mentioned this a couple of pages back and I don’t mean to beat it like a dead horse, but it kinda upsets me that there isn’t a bigger call for improving our health, especially in this moment. The media is so good at scaring people on a whole host of issues large or small, why don’t they attempt to ‘scare’ people into eating healthy? haha. The message everywhere is wash your hands, be careful and wear a mask, which is great. But why can’t they add ‘eat healthy’ or ‘excercise’ to that list? Other than age, the people who are most at risk have health issues. Health issue are usually a result of bad eating habits. You can greatly improve your health in the span of 2 months and as a result lower you risk, no matter where your starting point is.

P Ben Hess the #5 ranked player in IL and Josh Pyne who is the 8th ranked player in the state and Carter Mathison who is 10th. This is a good class. 11 total commitments in this class.

  16. I do an experiment in my chemistry classes where I have them bring in their favorite drink besides water and we go over how much sugar is in each drink. I have a few bags of sugar, and make the kids weigh out how much sugar is in their drink. In a 12 oz can of Pepsi, there are 39 grams. If you've never seen how much sugar it takes to get 39 grams, try it sometime. A 2 liter bottle of Mountain Dew has over 1/2 pound of sugar in it. It's fascinating/scary how much sugar is actually in drinks. I also gave up pop about 6 years ago. I didn't really lose any weight, but I feel so much healthier since I did it. It would be interesting if there is any connection between sugar and severity of Covid-19. Some people consume insane amounts of sugar.

  22. If I were guessing.. this is the batting order and position DH- Ashley CF- Richardson LF- Dunham 3B- Barr 1B- Fougerousse (guessing Fucci moves on) C- Southern/Hopkins SS- Macciochi (guessing he beats out Houston) 2B- Trinkle (better defensively than Ashley) RF- Jesse/Vercrumba/Colopy basically.. can Fougerousse play 1B? Out of Trinkle and Ashley who looks the best? and can one of Jesse, Vecrumba, Colopy beat out Trinkle/Ashley for the DH spot. Pitching wise I think the rotation is set Bierman, Sommer, and Tucker. Mid week Behrmann/Platt/Brown/Stahl/Sirounis... something like that. Manous and Scott getting the lion share of the work out of the pen. I think they'll throw a lot of innings. Whichever 4 doesn't start the mid week games plus Litwicki in the pen. We are a top 25 team going into the 21 season. One website had us top 10.

  24. As I said, I was told that vitamin D3 is the key that unlocks the cytokine and allows it to do its job. If there is not enough D3 then the cytokines build up and become destructive. I am no expert, I’m just parroting what I was told.

  25. So this is for all of those, myself included, who read things about this virus with a jaundiced eye... Wearing a mask can reduce transmission of Covid-19 by 75% But, knowing that at this point there's a lot of disinformation/misinformation being put out, I'm skeptical...especially looking through the article and seeing this... "Transmission can be reduced by 50 (percentage points) when surgical masks are used, especially when masks are worn by infected individuals," he said. "Lies , damn lies, and statistics" as popularized by an American humorist... And another... Again by Chinese scientists "The novel coronavirus is behaving differently in patients in northeast China who have contracted it recently compared with early cases, indicating it is changing as it spreads, a prominent doctor said." I'll never disavow real science, but I will question where it comes from...China has an agenda here...and people need to understand that...

  27. Trying a little positive here. I'm really liking this reopening of Indiana from this perspective. I just booked an appt for hair cut, BMV license renewal, and oil change all in 5 minutes. Best part...appointments are staggered so no waiting time in lobby or hanging out. Love it. Show up do your thing and gone.

  28. Picture of Ayden celebrating his last day of Elementary school. For those of you that have been around here long enough know that at 2 or 3 years old doctors were telling us that if Ayden survived he would not be able to function at a level to attend school. By GODS grace not only was he able to attend school but was on honor roll every semester plays baseball and was a lead in school play. Very proud of this amazing boy, I give praise to our lord savior and a big thank you to all of HSN for your support and prayers.
