  6. The rest of the world has and continues to tread Covid-19 as Pandemic. We in the US declared it safe and have moved on with our lives. Whether that was a good or bad idea is up to each person and they own individual beliefs, political or otherwise. And we should not be surprised or otherwise outraged by another countries decision that doesn't meet with those of the United States and its occupants. We might police the world and heed the call to defend those we deem allies, but it doesn't mean we get to dictate their rules when they differ from out own. Plus, Covid-19 is a US government hoax that has tricked the whole world into believing we're all going to die from it so they can harvest our organs when they plug us into the matrix. Greatest global conspiracy since the Moon Landing.

  9. I agree. Also add Colorado and Kansas. Natural rivals for Nebraska. Have east west divisions and itā€™s as close to the old Pac10 Big Ten meeting in the Rose Bowl days from years past as it can be.

  10. Feel for you. I'm lucky in that most of the teams I rooted for last year were winners. Dodgers, Buccaneers, Bucks, Bama Football, Baylor Basketball, the Mumbai Cricket Club, etc.

  14. You could look at college athletics as a career path in the same way being a doctor is. They could build classes, training, etc. around this, like is already happening and exists. It just take a change in the way people look at athletics associated with college. They really are far more in line, if you really look deep, and they don't have to be the separated arm of a uni. Universities exist to train and make people better prepared for their chosen profession. I never understood why athletic programs were not looked at in the same manner as med school. They really aren't that different.

  15. WTF again? It appears he was blind sided by the back room dealings. I assume you don't understand exactly how Texas has been within the conference. Truth be told the old Big 8 should have never let them in when they were in search of a league to join. Hence why teams have been leaving until the almighty Longhorn decides to leave themselves. And on a personal note, I hope the SEC suffers the "Texas Plague" as well...

  16. I never saw us linked to him....now when he went to Boston I heard we were interested...but we hate big contracts and I can't see us ruining our cap by adding a player with minimal upgrade for us and might not even be able to play. At least in NY he and Rose can alternate which nights they will be hurt.

  17. Then kids start an intramural sports league...and then that leads to them formulating a school team and reaching out to a neighboring school to perhaps schedule a competition and perhaps to form an intermural league with a few schools and then that leads to an official league (conference) and they schedule with another conference/league and so on til we are right back to where we are now lol!!

  18. ...or maybe it comes full circle. Kids go to college to get an education.

  19. I've though and said that for awhile now. College athletics will only exist at colleges as long as they provide an economic benefit to colleges. Colleges are willing to run a deficit for the advertising benefit, but I can see a day when they may say that it's just not worth it and pro leagues will have to develop their own feeder systems. In that regard, baseball is way ahead of the others.

  21. This. People continue to not understand that the $$$ related to research are far greater than athletics. It just is. This isn't some arbitrary rule. There is a reason why Johns Hopkins is affiliated with the B1G and lacrosse was just the bonus.

  22. Thats good and all but if they aren't willing to share assets and research (that is funded by their endowments etc) with other universities like the AAU agreement then I'm not sure how much that means to the conference itself. Seems the B1G wants to share academic data and research within it's members (which has a huge economic benefit to all) all while maximizing profit by it's members standing to make deals with the tv networks and generate ad money and revenue for the conference. I think endowments definitely show the health and stability and standing of a school but if it doesn't directly translate (which maybe it could) to the other member schools might not be a big factor in deciding on whom to bring in.

  23. This is probably the number 1 issue the franchise has against it. When was the last time a top 30 free agent even considered Indiana? Gordon Hayward? And that was for being hometown and may have been a smoke screen. The 2nd biggest issue is that the front office and ownership are nice guys and loyal. What I mean about that is take 3 years ago. Oladipo gets hurt and instead of trading the expiring contracts of some decent pieces that would be contributors on playoff teams, such as Thad, they hold him and let him walk to an in conference team. They could have easily gotten a 2nd rounder out of that. And remember they got Brogden for 2 seconds because the Bucks couldn't afford him. So accumulating picks has for some reason never been in the pacers arsenal. Same thing this year with McBuckets. He was worth a 2nd to a playoff team looking for one more shooter. So imo, the front office wants to be friends and nice guys with the players and not get into trading for assets. They place the relationship over the business. Good guys usually finish last.

  24. I haven't dissected all of the blown saves/losses but it seems Bell has a propensity for riding the "cold" hand in these games that are costly. For God's sake they traded for pen help but dumbBell keeps calling on the same "losers" to finish games. I would have thought the new guys would change his logic, but apparently not.

  25. That would be really disappointing. Its none of my business but i would be curious the % of the team and staff that has either been vaccinated or had covid already. If its 100% combined then this would be nothing but virtue signaling by the university.

  26. Is this new, really really old, or just a mistake? Prior to just now seeing IU listed as 1 of 4 "warm" schools, I don't remember seeing anything about Dante Anderson. https://247sports.com/player/dante-anderson-46058581/

  27. In PG's defense, his claim is that he did want to stay and that the best power forward in the league (his words) called him and said he wanted to join him in Indy, and then when he brought it to the Pacers they told him they couldn't afford to make the move. I don't know if that's true or not, but if it is then I can't really blame him for changing course.

  30. First off Iā€™m so happy for Simoneā€™ that she was able to overcome, even though it was obvious she was not at full confidence! Second what about Tamyra Mensah-Stock! Kind of reminds me of 68 with all the political protests going on and George Forman after winning Gold walked around the ring with a 4*6 American flag waving. Sheā€™s just much more exuberant!!!!!

  32. So with the end of the first 48 hours Iā€™d say these are my big winners and losers up to this point. I know it could change with a trade but just going off of this part of the offseason. Winners Lakers-I suspect they still look to finish filling out the roster with vet min contracts but for a team that looked dead in the water going into free agency proved with Lebron on your team no move is impossible. Defense will be a joke but combine their offense with the protection of nba officiating and they are assured to return to the the Western Conference finals. The landed Westbrook, Nunn, Carmelo, Howard, Bazemore, Ellington, and Arizaā€¦.howā€¦who knows. Magical how everyone will play for free with Lebron banking on him making them look good and then turning it into a bigger payday elsewhere. Heat-Lowry and Tucker bring tough minded defense and intensity and they didnā€™t give up any of their key core. I suspect a few moves to go as well. Bulls-upgraded point with Lonzo Ball and Derozan make that a playoff caliber team..big upgrades. Losers- I have several Dallas-They did nothing to help Lukaā€¦nothing significant at all. Portland-Sameā€¦this should inspire Lillard?? Knicks-$$$ canā€™t buy good players buying in. Still canā€™t find a star willing to go there. 76ers-how can they run that team back after the fallout?? Spurs-Are they just ranking at this point?! GS- all that ammo and they shot a blankā€¦.Otto porter jr is the immediate help they landed?? Gotta be some big trades on the horizon for some of these losers to shake things upā€¦just canā€™t see them standing pat while their stars play out their prime.

  33. The problem with the Pacers is they get burnt on a deal and then they decide to spend the next 10 years avoiding the chance it happening again. Exhibit A Bender and B Austin Croshere and C Monta Ellis. Pacers just make a bad move and it seems to scare them off from making a similar move even when it would make the most sense. Probably throw Artest in there too. Very fearful of taking on young special talent that might be temperamental as well.

  35. I tend to agree since it's PG and I find him to be pretty self-serving when he makes many of his comments on things. But with that said, i could see this being legit if the acquisition would put the Pacers over the luxury tax.

  37. Here is how masks can get a bad rap. A family if 5 wears masks everywhere they go, but one of those is a 5 year old who is constantly tinkering with his mask. The 5 year old is exposed, catches Covid, but because of his age, shows little in the way of symptoms. Meanwhile, at home, the family does not wear their masks, and the asymptomatic 5 year old spreads it to the rest of the family, even though they were diligent about wearing their mask in public. This type of scenario gives the false impression that masking does not work. When, in reality, it's the complete opposite.

  38. I disagree with the premise that masks do not work. Are they 100% effective? No, of course not. But, if you put an unmasked infected person on an elevator with ten unmasked people for 2 minutes, and then put that same infected person, but now masked, on a different elevator with 10 masked people for 2 minutes, do you truly believe the INITIAL spread will be the same.

  39. Don't know about COVID, but it definitely worked against the flu: ā€œThereā€™s just no flu circulating,ā€ says Greg Poland, who has studied the disease at the Mayo Clinic for decades. The U.S. saw about 700 deaths from influenza during the 2020ā€“2021 season. In comparison, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates there were approximately 22,000 U.S. deaths in the prior season and 34,000 deaths two seasons ago. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/flu-has-disappeared-worldwide-during-the-covid-pandemic1/
