  1. Would Beard leave Ole Miss after 1 year?  Well he did leave UNLV after what a day?  To me he is the top option that could be had but if it takes one more year of Woody to lure Beard, I'd be patient. I don't know how recruiting is going for Beard after his off court stuff but Texas made a mistake letting him go, IMO.  Terry is OK at Texas and deserved a shot but one was must wonder if he is Texas version of Mike Davis whether he is better coach or not.

May is OK hire too but Mitch Henderson is as good, IMO and I like Mitch when they hired Archie though I wasn't against the Archie hire.

Collins name alwaays surfaces and I think he'd a great coach at IU but I think he is probably committed to being in chicago.

    What happened to Oats?

  2. Thanks for letting me in these leagues.  I've only played 2 years and my teams have been meh but after the first year Ibarely made the cut to champions league.  This year finished 3rd but my team was probably 2nd division scoring wise so luck factored in.  Wasn't all good luck as it didn't help that Chubb was my 1st round pick and Tee Higgins was my 2nd best receiver when drafted and Trevor lawrence got all beat up just when he looked like he was about to repeat last year's finish.  Looking forward to next year.  McBride was the best thing that really happened for me as I got him right when Waller went down.

  3. Yeh,  I signed up for Peacock at 20 per year last year and it renewed automatically for 19.99 again for a year not 59.99 this September.  I'm good until Sept. of 24.  Let's see if it ($20) is the price next September in 24.  I don't see how streaming and cord cutting from Satellite/Cable saves money if one likes to watch sports.

Oh for sure.  Not sure how him and Kyrie make a full season.

How many Mavs games do y'all watch?  I'm a die hard Mavs fan and watch all their games. Really liking what I'm seeing from KI and Luka.   Luka is always looking to involve his teammates. He just needs to quit whining and playing games with the refs.

Mavs really hit on Lively.  He is already playing at a level that I was just hoping he'd get to by 2nd half of season.  It took almost 2 years but they finally replaced KP's defense in the paint. If they can get a DFS replacement at PF and let Grant williams play more SF and be a combo then they could be dangerous. Not sure OMAX Prosper will be ready this year. They should of taken TJD even if pick 22 was supposedly to high for him.

  5. The sample size is pretty small for this format. I don't think it an issue.  3 of 8 teams with byes over last 2 year made the LCS. I like the format and best of 3 WC series.

Tampa didn't have a layoff but lost. They had 2nd best record in AL. Maybe a bye would have done them good.  Maybe the the real issue is divisions.

Houston was lucky to get a bye but they still won their first series. So layoff did not bother them. They had layoff last year went all the way. Yanks had bye and got to ALCS so AL has held form.

Atlanta has lost to Philly each of the last 2 years so maybe philly just has their number. You'd think Atlanta would be wanting revnge.

I believe it was on Ken Burns Baseball but Bob Costas said the pitcher who came in to pitch to Vic Wertz on the Mays catch was taken out and maybe only in to pitch to Wertz.   When he handed the ball to his replacement, he said, "Well, I got my guy out". I'm sure I botched this up some and forgot the names of the pitchers. Still that is fricking classic if true.

I didn't know where to place this, so I thought I would do it here rather than start a new thread.

Down here in Evansville, we have a semi-pro team, the Evansville Otters. They play in the Frontier League. This year, they will be playing for the 2023 Championship! They will be playing the Quebec Capitales. The series starts tonight in Quebec with Game 3 tomorrow night. The series then shifts to historic Bosse Field, where the movie, Field of Dreams was filmed (for you movie lovers). The series is a best of 5.

    Go Otters!!

Grew up there.  Remember going to Rex Mundi HS football games played at Bosse field in late 60s and early 70s. I attended Rex Mundi games when 4 when Griese played for Rex Mundi.   Don't really remember much on those games so maybe can't count them.    Went to lots of Triplet games in the 70s and also remember when they were in AAA WS when they had Jack morris, Gibby and some other tigers that were on the 84 WS team.  Not sure the AAA WS had home and home games.  Also got to go see the Big Red Machine play an exhibition game vs Triplets at Bosse field.

One year the Triplets were horrible and they had a promotion for guaranteed win homestands. If you attended first game of the homestand and they lost, tickets remained free until they won a game on the homestand.

Not far away on the other side of Diamond Ave from Bosse field, Donnie Mattingly grew up.

  8. Haven't been posting much lately as Fantasy Football took over my internet time to prepare for the to many leagues that I am in.  The Reds are 1 win away (75) from what I put down as a highly successful season for where they were coming from.  It's a bit frustrating since they were rolllng and have kind of had a collapse especially since August 1 and it really kind of started before that with the Brewers series before and after the all star break.

Glad to see India back and hitting that homer in first AB.   I hope they don't trade him.  I think he is the leader of the team and I'd make him the full time DH and utility infielder next year if ELDC, McLain, Marte are all playing in the infield.  Let's see if he leads a charge down the stretch to get a final WC spot.

I don't know if there will be much difference in game importance in earning a WC spot for these young guys but would give them a lot of confidence moving into next year. I am just happy they are playing meaningful games so late in the season whether they more WC games or not.  Lots of times teams that have nothing to play for start  to play good.   They may not be playing great but great for the experience.

I think they should be very careful when they make deals in the offseason. I know they are not a big money team but I'd stand PAT and open up the pocket book for a big a signing or 2 before all these rookies start getting their deals.  I'd look at Blake Snell as a FA.

Of course Trey Lance is now a Cowboy. Here's a kid who was acquired for 3 1's and whatever else and now heads to Dallas (who already has a good backup qb) to what? Rebuild himself?

Never underestimate Jerry's lack of emotional intelligence to want to maybe stick it to the 49ers.

A 4th round pick is squat if you think you are getting your future starter.    Maybe Dak is up against the wall.  He has had plenty of chances but always comes up short on game winning playoff drives.  Dak will soon be asking for even more money.  Maybe time to move on if it is same ol' story this year.  Dak is a class act but game winning drives in playoffs aren't happening. Kellen Moore was the scapegoat last off season.  We'll see.

I like it.  It will never come about though....the owners will be too busy fighting over which cities get new franchises.

Well maybe the success of the pitch clock will make them more open to change.  I like getting all the Western teams in a division/league.  Seems Central and East time zone teams don't like so many late games. Portland has often been mentioned as a place to expand so if they got team then Colorado could move in with Texas, KC. minny ... without much issue.

As a Reds fan, my concern would be they get sent East and lose games with Cards but they played in NL West for long time.  Still in those days they still played Cards 12 times.

It will never happen, but now since the rules are the same, do away with the Al and NL all-together.  3 divisions of 10 teams each.  You play the 20 teams in the other 2 divisions 3 times each (60 total games) and the other 9 teams in your own division 12 times each (108 total games).  A combined total of 168 games.  The 3 division winners and the top 2nd place team get first round playoff byes.  8 other teams make the playoffs based on win %.  that's 12 playoff teams, same as now.

    East

    • Red Sox
    • Yankees
    • Mets
    • Phillies
    • Orioles
    • Nationals
    • Braves
    • Rays
    • Marlins
    • Blue Jays

    Central

    • Pirates
    • Reds
    • Tigers
    • Cubs
    • White Sox
    • Cardinals
    • Royals
    • Brewers
    • Twins
    • Guardians

    West

    • Astros
    • Rangers
    • Rockies
    • Diamondbacks
    • Mariners
    • A's
    • Giants
    • Dodgers
    • Angels
    • Padres

Or, if you are concerned about competitive balance, and the lack of major markets in the Central, you can split less on geography and try to split it so that each division has some East Coast, Central U.S., and West Coast teams in it.

I think MLB should expand to 32 teams aand make four 8 team leagues. Play each team in league for 12 times and each team in other 3 league 3 times.

    12x7=84

    3x24=72

That is a 156 game schedule.

I'd try to keep the AL/NL designation for awards and All star games but not separate them for playoffs. The 4 league winners get first round byes (same as now with top 2 division winner). The other 8 teams would be Wildcards and I might weigh the interleague games more heavily in determining the wild card Standings.

hopefully,  Austin would be one of the cities getting a team.  A stadium just to the south of Austin would not be all that far from San antonio.   Always talk of the Rays making a move.

Well India will be the odd man out of the infield in the next year. I just meant a young pitcher  like Cease who has a few more years of service before free agency.  Also wasn't Cease the runner up for Cy Young last year.

That was a joke since his first start after the trade deadline was a disaster. Cease has been up and down this year.  who knows why?  That trade might be OK in the off season but I'm not sure he gets you over the top anymore than the up and down guys they are throwing out there now.

  13. GM Scott wanted to trade India for Cease.    Cease looks like he'd been a perfect fit for the Reds staff the last couple of days.     He gave up 7 runs last night in 1.2 innings.

Even if the Reds flame out,  I'm glad they stood pat with the young guys. I think they will remain in the hunt and would like to see who produces in meaningful games.   I'd probably rather trade high potential minor league prospects in the off season for a guy like Soto to put in the outfield. I realize that is probably unrealistic for a team with the Reds budget but I am seeing the stands full these days.

  14. I don't tune in to listen the talking knuckleheads on either of the networks. Most are all pretty bad and redundant.  I just tune in to watch the games. I do like Dan Patrick, Freddie coleman and the odd couple but listen to those on the radio.

I'll miss JVG and Mark Jackson. Hope they land on TNT. Read an article where FS1 guy was throwing Doris Burke under the bus. These people need to chill.  She is fine but not nearly as entertaining as JVG and Jax. JJ Redick is really good.

Hope the Manning's keep their their Monday night football gig. I'll put them on if the 2 teams are not of interest to me.

    College Gameday is great.

I can't think of anything on FS1 that i watch other than games.

Seeing some chatter out there that the Reds are interested in Cease.  Apparently the White Sox have put him on the market.

White Sox quickly showed interest in India when that chatter came out a couple weeks ago.  I vote no if they are trying to get him.

  16. It is great these Reds are all veraatile but I do wish Bell would stick with a defense for the stretch run.  Is Elly or McLain the SS of the future?  One day Elly is at short and McLain is at 2nd then one day it is McLain is a short and Elly is at third with Steer at 2nd.  then Steer plays third.  I'd probably go with Elly at short and McLain at 2nd for rest of this year.  Make India the primary DH rest of year as he seems to have been battling thru some nagging injuries early in season and now is on IL. Put steer at 3rd.  Votto and Encarnacion Strand rotate at 1st. I wonder with Elly's arm and speed if he winds up moving to outfield down the road similar to Tatis in SD. I'm not a fan of trading India even in the off season.

For this year I am not to concerned about the lineup.     Eventually, I hope the lineup stays consistent so players know whatto expect day to day.   I think Elly has to much power to not bat 3rd or 4th down the road.  I'd hate to move Friedl from the top but like him at 9.  The Rangers bat Taveras ninth and it works really well.  Maybe next year.

I don't think its out of the question, if the Reds falter down the stretch... and I don't mean "just miss the playoffs"... but REALLY play poorly... that Bell could be let go.

Reds are about a year behind Ranger of blowing up team. Rangers have money and supplemented their young guys with big signings the last 2 off sesons.  Reds seem  to have better young players but still the hiring of Bochy as Manager was huge for Texas.  I don't know if there are any managers of that profile for Reds to land but could be a next step. I don't really know what to think of Bell. He hasn't done anything to impress or make me think he is a bad manager other than typical 2nd guessing that fans do. He is probably better than Woodward was in Texas.

I use to dislike Sparky anderson for his Captain hook moves and I'd say he maybe is my favorite mgr ever when it all said and done.   I also jumped on the Tiger bandwagon when sparky was there because they had  a lot of players that played Triple AAA in Evansville in late 70's when I lived there like Petry, Morris Gibson, Parrish etc...

  18. Seems the problem has been the Brewers pitching.  They scored vs the other teams. sometimes you gotta give the other team credit.

I don't get the Brewer hex but it seems to happen to teams a lot.  Rangers struggle with Toronto.  I remember before the dome in toronto the Ranger announcers called the stadium the blueJays played in the VooDoo Palace.  Reds don't seem to get many calls vs the Brewers.
